10 Rules to Keep Your Website Visitors Engaged

Do you know that most visitors leave a website within 10 seconds of landing on the home page? And they may never return to the same site. To keep your website visitors stay longer, you need to engage them. Follow these 10 simple rules to build a set of core loyal visitors who will return to your site frequently.

1. If you have a brick-and-mortar business and you want an online presence, don’t just hand over your printed brochure to the web developer for your site’s contents.

2. Get good text, picture, and video contents related to your products or services and organize them into categories for your website publication. How do you get contents? You can ask your kids to write contents for you. Today’s kids are information savvy and know how to do research on right topics. They can help take pictures and videos of your products and provide narrations. If you cannot leverage your kids talents and you don’t have time to develop contents, buy them from online sources, like distributors of private level rights to articles and stock photographs. You need a small content set to launch your web site.

3. Ask your developer for some sample websites he has developed in the past and review them. If you find clutter, music, unprofessional graphics, etc. in those sites, run away from the developer. Tell your web developer to use basic search engine optimization techniques for your web site. Use a developer who uses content management systems (CMS) to develop websites. You or your kids and spouse will be able to maintain and add contents regularly to an CMS without much efforts.

4. You must have an About US page in your website that explains the expertise of your company and your unique selling proposition. Also, you should provide a phone number and an e-mail address for contact.

5. Publish a weekly tips section in your website. If you are in a business for a long time, you have a wealth of knowledge about your business, market, and technologies involved in your business. Make it a habit of jotting down one tip every day. You will have plenty of tips for your weekly publication.

6. Don’t use guest books, testimonials etc. These are so Web 1.0 concepts. Use a forum. Let your customers interact among themselves. Develop a value network. You get into the insights of your customers’ minds by reading their posts and your visitors know your products and services by talking to each other. As a result, you will be able to provide improved products and services and ask for a premium price.

7. Promptly answer all your visitor’s e-mail. This is one thing you should never delay. Use your visitors comments, e-mail, and other form of communications to generate ideas for new articles and tips.

8. Tell your web developer to include an RSS feed on your site and publish a filtered news related to the market you serve and emerging technologies in that market. Don’t use a weather report. Nobody comes to your site to check the weather.

9. Publish a frequently asked questions related to your products and services. It helps save your visitors’ time and efforts when they are looking for information on a particular topic related to your website.

10. Did you know that the average person must be exposed to an offer around seven times before they will make a purchase? Make your website an advertising platform for your most popular items. Advertise them through out your site but don’t use any ‘in-your face advertising’ techniques. You can use side bars for this type of advertising with interesting anecdotes, pictures, etc. Be creative and use your imagination.

Your website is your publishing medium. It is not your online catalog. You want repeat visitors who spend their time at your site for valuable information. The possibility of visitors turning into a paying customers improves when they stick around your site longer.

Tips For Bouldering Beginners In Texas

If you’re a beginning boulderer in Dallas, Houston or anywhere else in Texas, here are some bouldering basics you can incorporate into your newly adopted sport:

1) A crash pad is a good investment to help you avoid injury. It’s equally important that the pad makes you look professional.

3) The climbing “community” rarely actually communes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring a buddy or spotter.

4) Boulderers do pull ups to pull downs, use underclings on overhangs and do sitdown starts to layback cracks.

5) Don’t underestimate V9s and V10s. Not that anyone would, but don’t even think they are possible unless you have been hand-picked by God. There are more features on an elevator door than a V9 or V10.

6) Most mantels are mental. That means that if they were three feet off the ground, a grandmother could get up them. Do that same move at the top of a reasonably high boulder and you’re hanging there sweating bullets, building up the balls to pull yourself over what is essentially like climbing into bed.

7) Strong mental focus can get you at least six inches higher on a dyno than just strength alone.

8) There are ethics in climbing and bouldering. Generally speaking, they vary by area, are unwritten, open to interpretation and, often, to contradiction as well. The best advice, however, is to do exactly what they say. Failure to do so could result in someone setting fire to your car, strangling your dog and peppering your favorite boulder with machine gun fire.

9) People who know about great boulders don’t really want you to go to that particular location.

10) Slopers are very bad things. These are like the hottest chick in your neighborhood - you know that even if you get your hands onto her you won’t be able to hold on for long. When you inevitably can’t hold on for any longer, your friends will be lining up to have a go, regardless of any loss you may feel.

11) Slopers also require practice because you have to use a different breed of hold. The only good thing about slopers is that, once you’ve worked hard on them, you can basically go on a crime wave, confident that your fingerprints will yield nothing.

12) Never try to explain to people what bouldering is and why you do it. Just tell them you’re going to play golf - it’s a lot easier, and they won’t think you’re strange.

13) Sit-down starts are a ridiculous concept, until you complete one.

14) The best bouldering place in the U.S. is Hueco Tanks in Texas. It appears that the only way to find out if it’s open to bouldering is to actually go there. No one really knows if it’s open or not, and if they do, they ain’t saying.

15) The best bouldering place in the world is Fontainebleau in France. It’s definitely open, but is full of French people.

Like any growing sport, bouldering can and should be fun if you take the proper precautions. If you have any questions or doubts about your bouldering abilities, seek a professional boulderer for guidance.

Tips For Writing An Article

It’s no secret that writing articles for the Internet is becoming a rather profitable activity, whether it be submitting to directories to bring traffic to your site or submitting to sites for direct payment. Unfortunately, not everybody knows how to go about writing articles for either avenue. This article will give you some article writing basics that will get you on your way to writing articles for whatever reason you choose.

The first thing you want to do when writing an article is try to pick a subject that you know something about. This is going to make things a lot easier. For one thing, you won’t have to do as much research in order to write the article, if any at all. For another, writing about something you are familiar with will help the article sound more natural and conversational, which makes for more interesting reading.

The next thing you want to do when writing an article is decide on how you are going to approach the subject. A common mistake that people make is that they pick a topic like baseball, start talking about how the game started, then move into the rules and end up talking about their favorite players. They go from one sub topic to another with no real direction. These types of articles, for the most part, are not only maddening to try to read, but are rarely accepted by sites for either payment or even posting to their free directory. So pick a central theme, such as rules of the game, and stick with it throughout the article. It will make writing it a lot easier because it is more structure.

The next thing you want to do when writing an article is make sure that you do a spell and grammar check. You would be surprised how many people will write an article and not even put it through a spell checker. It only takes about five seconds to do. If you write your article in a decent program like Microsoft Word, you should also have a decent grammar checker as well. Poorly constructed articles with bad spelling and bad grammar are also not going to be accepted.

Finally, at the end of your article, you want to make sure that you tie everything together and wrap it up so that the reader feels like they have had a complete reading experience. You don’t want people walking away thinking to themselves, “that was a waste of time.” Now, this doesn’t mean you have to give them EVERY piece of information on a topic. In many cases, this isn’t possible to do in one article. This is where you then direct them to other resources where they can learn more.

See, that’s the way to write a good article.

Triathlon Basics - Train All Of Your Body Systems In Texas

A triathlon is a grueling competition that includes running, biking and swimming distances. The races can vary in distances, with the shorter Tinman, which includes a .62 mile swim, 28.6 mile bike race and a 6.2 mile run, to the aptly named Ironman, which includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike race and running a marathon - approximately 26 miles.

Although triathletes from Dallas, Houston or anywhere in Texas come in various shapes, sizes and sexes, you have to be in excellent physical condition to participate in a triathlon. If you are participating in a race, or plan to do so, here are five key phases you should add to your triathlon training.

Hydration is the absolute, number one, most important training tip. Start off well hydrated, or even over-hydrated if you don’t mind potty visits three times in the last hour of your pre-triathlon race or training sessions. Then, if the triathlon event is less than an hour, you will not need to take in liquids during the event.

Phase One

- Fun exercise. Most of your triathlon training should be enjoyable. The post-triathlon race season, and the early build up for next year, should be even more fun. Include long gentle sessions, cruising at 70 percent of your maximum heart rate, plus plenty of speedplay.

- Running element. Two hundred to 800 meter efforts on trails, grass or other soft surfaces. Run 10-20 percent of your mileage as speedplay at about 10K of your race effort.

- Swimming. Time to switch your environment. Ocean, lake or pool…seek a change. Swim 30-90 seconds in moderate effort surges.

- Biking - Go off-road or to the road. Ride hard up the hills or do 2-10 minute surges.

Phase Two

Strength exercise - You still keep your long runs and bike rides, but you’re now in full triathlon training. Hill repeats for running and biking. Use resistance devices for swimming. In all the triathlon disciplines, keep your cadence and work on form. Also include weight training twice a week, until two weeks before your main triathlon races. Keep that relaxing speedplay exercise also.

Phase Three

Improve your oxygen delivery system or anaerobic threshold, while improving exercise efficiency. For triathlon running, you need to practice running at 15K to half-marathon race pace, with one to two mile repeats and 4- to 5-mile tempo runs. Run at 80-86 % maximum heart rate for these sessions. Biking at about one-hour time trial pace means 5- to 15-minute repeats at that pace. Swimming will require 3- to 5-minute efforts at 90 percent maximum swimming heart rate. Keep some strength and speedplay sessions too. Continue long runs and bike rides.

Phase Four

Improve oxygen uptake capacity (VO2 Max) and exercise form. Use a 5K pace for running (95 % of max VO2), usually as 1- to 3-minute efforts or 300-600 meters. If very experienced, use 5-minute efforts to perfect relaxed running form. Biking will also need 1- to 5-minute efforts at 15-minute time trial pace, which is closer to 100 % of max VO2 on the bike. One-minute efforts are more the norm for swimmers; form is so much more important against the high resistance of water. Retain some anaerobic exercise, strength and speedplay sessions too.

Phase Five

Peaking requires resting by 20-40 percent, but only in the last 2-3 weeks. The type of training that’s most often neglected is long efforts at VO2 Max. Running 1,000 to 1,600 meters at 5K pace, biking 4-6 minute efforts, and swimming 2 to 3 minutes at high intensity, places the muscles, including the heart muscle, in the high training zone for a greater percentage of the exercise session.

The well-trained runner/triathlete will find 12 x 400 meters at 5K pace easy. Three times one-mile at 5K pace is more demanding, especially if you only take a two-minute rest between reps. Match each session of long efforts with a session of short efforts at 5K intensity. Keep some anaerobic threshold exercise, strength speedplay sessions too. Never ignore a strength while working on your weakness.

Four weeks of relative rest in phase one should be followed by about eight weeks in each of the other four, triathlon-training phases. These 36 weeks leave triathletes a 16-week racing season.

Secret Phrase for Annuity Selling

Selling annuities and being able to sell tons of them boils down to a simple concept, being polite. We all want to be nice and want people to be nice to us but being polite is different. I have used this concept for my entire sales life and not only does it work but it becomes the basis of a business plan that is not taught in business schools. And yet it is the full basis for any successful relationship, be polite.

How do we use it in our business plan to convert it to sales. If you are basing your sales efforts on building relationships then you are not an annuity salesperson, you are an order taker, an amateur not a professional.

How do we begin this process? We do it by learning an very important phrase. A phrase that will transcend your selling efforts to actually becoming a salesperson. What is that phrase and how does it help you to become more successful?

The important phrase to learn is “would it be a bother?”

Would it be a bother?

What is this actually saying? It is saying may I have permission. It is saying I am polite. It is a link from one subject to another and a powerful tool to change and control a relationship.

It does have some limitations and those limitations have to do with your desired target market. If you are working with people who were in their early 20’s during the Korean War, World War II and older as a target market, this is complete power. This generation operated on the premise of “politeness”
“Would it be a bother? Is based on being polite and can bridge any two subjects and allow you to dig deeper into the relationship.

Try this….”I know Mrs. Jones that you are not in the market for my services but “Would it be a bother” if I can over this afternoon and just introduced myself?”

Dead mortal cinch she will say yes…if she is in this target market age group.
You are really asking permission to change a relationship from looking at you as an outsider to one where you may become a friend. “Would it be a bother” is a bridge from one topic to another and a method to explore more fact finding questions and to seek answers based on how your prospect actually feels.

Adopt this attitude into your selling and it will become part of your life. Being polite is the secret of developing suspects to prospects to clients.
Once a relationship is developed on being polite almost any question can be asked. With the freedom to ask feeling questions begins the basis of selling annuities.

- Politeness
- Feelings
- Relationships
- Suspects to prospects to clients.

It is this approach that sets the true professionals form the rank amateurs. Amateurs make $5ok a year; professionals make $5ok a month. Learn this approach and join the ranks.

Who Wants To Climb A Rock In Texas?

More and more people from all walks of life in Dallas, Houston and all parts of Texas are becoming enthusiastic about rock climbing. Climbing techniques are evolving, and rock-climbing gear is being redeveloped as this sport continues to gain in popularity. The sport itself can be described as the act of going up a mountain, hill, any steep terrain, or artificial wall. Over the years, more and more people are discovering the joys of climbing - whether as a sport or as a form of recreation.

Over many decades, rock climbing has developed into a major sport or leisure activity for thousands of outdoor sports enthusiasts. Though it is generally a risky sport that demands physical strength and endurance, it poses a different kind of challenge, excitement, and adrenaline rush. This is probably one of the many reasons why a lot of people are so enthusiastic about this activity.

Given the fact that it is physically-demanding and dangerous, you probably wonder why it’s so popular. Here are several reasons why young individuals climb:

o Rock climbing is never boring. There are so many routes to climb, and if you have experienced enough of the crags (or the weather) in your area, there are many more challenging and beautiful walls and crags elsewhere to explore.

o It offers the ultimate physical challenge. Each day on the rock is an opportunity for you to go beyond the skills you already have. You should push yourself each time on the rock. Explore new and more difficult routes. Depending on your physical ability and level of risk acceptance, you will see that no grade is too tough.

o It offers a different sense of adventure and freedom. Most climbers love the sport because of the feeling they get when scaling rocks. Moreover, with this sport, you are able to go wherever and whenever you want.

o You will have a breath-taking view of the beautiful nature and sceneries. When looking for new routes, the climber will come across unexpected and beautiful vistas. In addition, keep in mind that, once you’ve reached the top, you will have a breathtaking view of the surroundings that not many people can see.

People may say to you, “Are you nuts? That is too dangerous!” when they hear about someone who is planning to go rock climbing. But do not let these comments stop you. Once you have done it, you will know why people climb and why so many are addicted to this sport.

However, please be forewarned that rock climbing is a dangerous sport. This can still be true even if you think you have done everything to ensure your safety. And, regardless of all the information you find in books and on the Internet, it’s still wise to learn the essentials from qualified and experienced climbers.

There are different types of rock climbing that can be done indoors on plywood climbing structures, or outdoors on cliffs, thousands of feet high:

o Traditional rock climbing: This sort of climbing is the type you see in movies and in nature documentaries. Connected by a rope, pairs of climbers wearing harnesses scale a rock face carrying racks of specialized equipment. As they go, the climbers place wedges, nuts and other forms of protection from their racks into cracks in the rock. The rope is hooked to these pieces of protection so that, if a climber falls, the rope catches them.

o Sport climbing: It’s like traditional climbing in most respects, except that the protective pieces are permanently bolted into the rock. The climber doesn’t have to carry protection with him/her or place it along the way. This makes sport climbing safer, faster and less expensive than traditional climbing.

o Free solo climbing: Although this version is like sport climbing, it’s the most dangerous because you use no rope. If you fall, you likely die.

o Indoor climbing: This is also like sport climbing, except that climbers scale indoor structures made of plywood or concrete and hold onto artificial handholds/footholds bolted onto the structure. The fact that it is indoors means that the height of the structure is limited by the height of the ceiling in the room. However, there are no weather problems and it is easy to unbolt the handholds and footholds to reconfigure the wall.

o Ice climbing: This sport is more like traditional climbing, except that the climber is scaling an ice formation, such as a frozen waterfall or a glacier, rather than a rock formation. Specialized equipment that can screw into the ice is used instead of the wedges, nuts and cams used on rock formations.

o Bouldering and buildering - Bouldering is like sport climbing, but you are climbing on boulders rather than on cliffs and crags. Because the maximum height of a boulder is typically ten feet or so, bouldering is often done without ropes. Buildering is more urban and involves climbing the sides of chimneys and buildings.

Let’s Go Bouldering!

Bouldering is a type of rock climbing that’s undertaken without a rope and is normally limited in respect to the height the climber ascends the route so that any fall won’t risk significant injury.

This variation of climbing is practiced on large boulders, at the base of larger rock faces/climbing routes, in indoor climbing centers found in Dallas, Houston or throughout Texas. Typically, bouldering is a more high-impact sport focusing on individual moves rather than the endurance required in traditional climbing or sport climbing. The sport was introduced by climbers as a way to practice certain “moves” over and over. It has since evolved into a challenging sub-sport of climbing, complete with its own “superstars.”

Boulderers have their own little subculture, and their own lingo as well. Believe it or not, some bouldering enthusiasts are climbers that are afraid of heights. Sometimes, the line between bouldering and climbing blurs, but the general rule is that if the rock isn’t an intrinsic part of the mountain, or if you can fall without being killed, it counts as a boulder.

Boulder routes are most commonly referred to as “problems,” because the nature of the climb is often short, curious, and much like problem solving. Sometimes, these problems are “eliminates”, meaning that certain artificial restrictions are imposed.

On smaller boulders without too many “problems,” the sport can be reasonably safe for a well-conditioned individual. Most boulderers climb with a spotter, and place a mat where it will hopefully cushion a fall. Not surprisingly, a few boulderers sometimes attempt “problems” well beyond the reach of their spotter, and rely on mats that do very little to protect falling skeletal structures from sudden stops on level portions of the planet.

As in other types of climbing, bouldering has developed its own grading systems for comparing the difficulty of problems. The most commonly used grading systems are the John Sherman V-grade system, beginning at V0 and increasing to V16, and the Fontainebleau system, which ranges from 1 to 8c+. Both scales are open-ended at the top, so the upper grade of these systems always increases as boulderers ascend to more difficult problems.

To reduce the risk of injury after a fall, climbers rarely go higher than nine feet above the ground. Anything over 21 feet is generally considered to be “free soloing,” and such climbs are also referred to as highball bouldering problems. It’s recommended that boulderers also put a crash pad/bouldering mat on the ground to break their fall. It’s also recommended that participants assign a spotter - a person on the ground to prevent the climber from landing badly. The spotter generally directs the climber’s body toward the crashpad during a fall, while protecting the climber’s head from hazards.

The region around Fontainebleau, near Paris, is particularly famous for its beautiful and concentrated bouldering sites. Other well-known areas include Stanage, in the United Kingdom, Hueco Tanks, in Texas, Castle Hill in New Zealand, Bishop, California, and Horse Pens 40, Alabama.

The sport of bouldering is growing in popularity, partly because of the growth of bouldering areas in indoor climbing gyms, with entire climbing gyms dedicated to bouldering. Children are joining the sport now as well as adults. In fact, studies have found that young climbers develop better skills than adults, from their experience with youthful disadvantages such as height and strength.

Bouldering is just one of many new sports that require participants to be in good physical shape before they make their first attempt. If done with the proper safety precautions, boulderers can enjoy the sport for as long as they are physically able.

Active sports such as bouldering can be a great way to exercise to maintain good health. Riding The Waves - A Guide To Water Skiing In Texas

Water skiing is a popular summer activity throughout Texas, with people flocking to lakes and beaches with skis and boat in tow. For a beginner, the thought of being towed behind a boat on a pair of skis can seem extremely intimidating, if not downright frightening. Once the boat gets started up, how will the individual even know how to stand up?

Luckily for most adventurous individuals, water skiing isn’t nearly as hard as it appears. For the most part, all that it requires is a little knowledge of skiing procedures, a strong grip, and common sense enough to know when to hold on and when to let go.

The first thing you want to do is make sure that your skis fit properly. This means that they’re tight enough so they’re not loose on your feet, and that you have to undo them in order to get them off. But not so tight that they’re painful to wear.

Once your skis are properly adjusted, it’s time to grab the tow rope and… “assume the position.” First, practice on shore or on the dock by leaning backwards slightly, keeping your head forward, your knees bent, and your legs should be under your body. Once you get in the water, assume the position again, this time with the tips of the skis protruding above the surface of the water. If you have trouble getting into this position, take your time, the boat won’t go anywhere until you’re ready to go.

Once the boat begins to move, the slack will disappear from the towrope and begin working its way to your standing position. Hold your arms straight and rigid, resisting the pull of the boat with your legs. Press into the water, and use the resistance to stand in a more upright position. As the boat picks up speed, press harder against the increased resistance and you should be able to reach a full standing position.

If you have trouble getting on your feet, don’t worry about it. Standing up on your skis is one of the hardest parts of water skiing. It may take a bit of practice before you get the hang of it. You’ll likely fall several times before you get up all the way, and even after you’re an old pro at it, you’ll still take the occasional tumble. Falling is part of skiing, and, for some individuals, is a big part of the fun.

When you do fall, though, it’s helpful to know the best way to fall, to prevent most injuries. As soon as you feel yourself starting to lose your balance, let go of the towrope immediately. In some cases, if you are seasoned enough, you might be able to regain your balance if you stick it out. But, for most individuals, it’s better to go ahead and take a dive than be dragged face-first through the water behind a speeding boat. So, as you fall, tuck your head in and bring your knees up, curling yourself into a ball. Try to fall backwards, if you can. Curling yourself up like this reduces the amount of free limbs and extremities that will hit the water, reducing the chance of injury.

Once you’ve recovered from the fall, wait for the boat to circle back around to pick you up. You might find it difficult to maneuver in the water while wearing skis, so feel free to take them off and use them as floatation devices. Now that you know how water ski, as well as take a fall, don’t be afraid to get back on those skis and go again.

The following are basic do’s-and-dont’s you should follow for waterskiing safety and courtesy:
o Do wear a life jacket while operating the boat and while skiing. The skier should wear a U.S.
Coast Guard approved life jacket that has a high impact rating and is designed for water skiing.
o Do have an observer on board whose only job is to watch the skier, receive signals and alert the boat operator if the skier falls.
o Do be familiar with the water skiing area, so you can avoid areas of shallow water, submerged obstructions and other dangerous situations. Also, stay clear of beaches and swimming areas, and do not purposely spray other boats or swimmers.
o Do go over hand signals with the skier before he or she is in the water.
o Do use a towrope that is at least 75 feet long.
o Do give a wide berth to fishermen and slower-moving crafts like canoes, kayaks and sailboats.
o Don’t ski when it is getting dark or is night. It is hard for the boat operator, skiers and other boats to see your boat and the skiers.
o Don’t use drugs or alcohol while operating the boat or water skiing. The substances impair good judgment and coordination.
o Don’t ski within 300 feet of another vessel, or 100 feet of the shore, a dock, or swim area.

3 Steps to Fuller Lips

Achieving sexy, plump lips has become the new fad in the cosmetic industry. The characterization of actresses and models with the appeal of plump lips has lead to phenomenal growth in the sales of lip enhancement products. Very few people are born with naturally plump lips, but that is not to say that the look is unachievable. Here are three simple steps you can do to enhance the appeal of your lips.

Moisturize

One of the most common side effects to poor lip care are dry and cracked lips. This problem stems from a lack of moisture retained by the lip tissue. It is important to focus on moisturizing your lips multiple times a day, especially in dry seasons such as winter. There are plenty of great moisturizers to choose from, but the key to success with any product is consistent application. If you are struggling with dry and cracked lips then you will need to start with five to six applications per day. It is also recommended to substitute your normal cosmetic lipstick with a hydrating formula. Regular lipstick provides very little moisture and can actually aggravate your lip tissue.

Exfoliate

The human body has an amazing system of regenerating new skin tissue as the old skin dies and flakes away. You can use this system to your advantage by exfoliating the old skin from your lips. Using a gentle, lip-specific exfoliator, wash away the old cracked skin from your lips about once a week. The newly exposed tissue will be delicate, but it can be cared for by using the moisturizing techniques described earlier. By regularly exfoliating your lips you will ease away from your old boring lips to a new luscious and healthy look. Just remember to exfoliate in moderation. You must give your skin plenty of time to regenerate and heal the lost tissue in order to experience the best results.

Enhance

The last step in the lip enhancement strategy is to add volume to your lips through the use of plumping agents. The most common lip volumizer ingredient is collagen. Collagen can be applied to the lips through a couple of different treatments. Botox injections have received a great deal of press lately because of their ties to the Hollywood lifestyle. While this type of treatment offers a temporary solution, there are side effects to consider such as allergic reactions, swelling, and shifting collagen. A more controlled use of collagen can be attained through the use of collagen applicators. This form of treatment takes slightly longer to achieve results, but the effects are more permanent and risk-free. Best of all, collagen absorption rarely results in allergic setbacks or other side effects.
