23 Ways to Become a Better Writer

I don’t claim to be the greatest writer in the world.

But I’m definitely better than I used to be. And ultimately, that’s all that really matters.

Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years…

1.-Don’t plan; just write.

2.-Write something every single day.

3.-Share your writing with others. Blog it. Do it anonymously if you have to. Let the world be your editor.

4.-Study writing basics in books like On Writing by Stephen King.

5.-Writers are readers. How many books did you read in February?

6.-Vary sentence length.

7.-Don’t be afraid to use ALL CAPS, bold, underline and the like. It catches people’s attention, breaks up the page and evokes emotion. Read a Tom Peters book, you’ll see what I mean.

8.-Typing is a little easier than writing by hand because the speed of thought is nearly matched by the speed of typing. Plus writing by hand is a big pain in the, um…hand.

9.-Whatever you’re writing, go back and make it shorter. People just don’t have time anymore. They won’t read it.

10.-It takes time to discover your voice. But when you do, it’s the greatest accomplishment any writer could achieve.

11.-Lists are your friends. They’re easy to write. They’re even easier to read. And they organize information that has no apparent pattern. Kinda like this blog post!

12.-Write everything down. Everything.

13.-Make sticky notes for your office with the following statements written on them:
a.-Writing is the basis of all wealth.
b.-Is everything you know written down somewhere?
c.-What did you write today?

14.-If you make lists, don’t be afraid to occasionally throw in a point that has absolutely no relevance whatsoever. It’s fun.

15.-Become a better writer by studying creativity. How many creativity exercises did you do this week?

16.-Get over all that, “But I’m not a writer” stuff. Thoughts like that block positive thought and hinder creativity. Everyone is a writer. Everyone.

17.-Every morning when you wake up, dump everything that’s on your mind into about three pages. It doesn’t have to be good. It doesn’t have to make sense. It’s about freeing your mind of all the crap so you can clear the way for the good stuff. Think of it like going to the driving range before a round of 18 holes to get all those shanks out of your system. If you want to write better quality stuff, the REAL stuff that’s deep inside of you just dying to get out, you’ve got to pave the way. Thank you, Artist’s Way.

18.-Break the rules of writing. Every day. Nothing too horrendous. But don’t be afraid to start sentences with words like “and” and “because.” Don’t be afraid to throw in a fragment here and there. Nobody’s going to be mad. If it proves your point and looks and sounds good, leave it in there. Be a rebel on paper.

19.-Read your stuff out loud. Make sure it flows.

20.-You can read books, take classes and study the greats. But the BEST way to become a better writer is to write. Every. Single. Day.

21.-Hey, remember #9? That thing I said about keeping it short? I was serious. Odd are, half the people who started reading this very article are no longer with us. (Dang it!)

22.-Read The War of Art. Best book on art/creativity/writing ever. EVER.

23.-When you write something really brilliant, or at least pretty good, take a break. Or stop. Don’t be a greedy writer.

Should You Be Stopping Foreclosure

Stopping a foreclosure is really very simple if you understand a few keys to the process. It is very important that you first evaluate your situation to see if stopping foreclosure is what you really want to do. This article will outline some guidelines that you can follow should you find yourself in the unfortunate need of stopping foreclosure.

Should You Be Stopping Foreclosure - Step One

Before you take the necessary steps in stopping foreclosure you must evaluate your entire financial state and see if stopping foreclosure will really help your situation. If you find it hard to make payments on your credit cards, car, or other items you probably need more help than just stopping foreclosure on your home.

You may want to seek the free advice of a credit counselor if you are simply going under on several other payments besides your house payment. These credit counselors can help in deciding if stopping foreclosure is going to help you or not.

Should You Be Stopping Foreclosure - Step Two

If your home is in an area of homes that is increasing in value you may have more incentive for stopping foreclosure to reap some profits for selling in time. You could check with some local real estate offices and see what homes are selling for in your neighborhood. This will give you a good guideline as to what you could expect to gain. Make sure that you are using comparable results when determining the real value.

Should You Be Stopping Foreclosure - Step Three

You should ask yourself if the home you are in is really what you want. Maybe it is time for a move to a new town or neighborhood. You might be able to walk into a very nice situation where you could earn credit towards a home by doing repairs. If this is the case you might be better off to let your home go into foreclosure, but you must act quickly.

If you have determined that stopping foreclosure is worth it for you then you should contact the lender and explain your situation. You might ask them to lower your payments. You could ask for a reduction of 50% or more in some cases for a certain period of time. This can work if you are several months delinquent on your payments.

If you are stopping foreclosure and choose to have your payments lowered you will most likely not gain on your principle very quickly, but you will at least be able to continue enjoying your home. Once you get back on your feet you can regain equity by making extra payment that is applied to the principle only.

If you need more foreclosure help then quickly head over to foreclosure-help-now.com where you will find helpful foreclosure tips, advice and resources including information on foreclosure plans, negotiating and more Stopping Foreclosure.

Hitachi Table Saws - Model Highlights

Hitachi is an international company, but the United States headquarters is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Hitachi products are available in almost 4000 retail stores with service centers numbering over a thousand. Hitachi claims on their website to have the best power tools available for professional use.

The United States branch of the Hitachi Corporation has been independently operating since 1948. However, their affiliation with the parent company affords Hitachi the advantages of quick access to new technology that is developed in other fields but can also advance the efficiency and performance of power tools. Because of Hitachi’s expertise in metallurgy, plastics, and casting, this company can make power tools that are easier to use as well as faster in performance and more durable for long term use.

Hitachi uses a three dimensional computer aided design (CAD) system to build its power tools in virtuality before building a live prototype. By using this virtual prototype, Hitachi can do extensive analysis to find out where the most likely failures will happen. In this virtual setting the power tools can be tested for strength, vibration resistance, effects of impact, effects of harsh environmental conditions, and effectiveness of safety features. This process saves time and money by eliminating the need to build a real prototype and test it just to find that they have to go back to the designing board to start all over again.

This design system has led to improvements such as a cooling system that allows the tools to run for longer periods of time without burning out. Another technological advance improves the balance so that tools are lighter and easier to maneuver.

Hitachi’s table saws benefit from all of these designs and advances. They offer three different models of table saws for various levels of work conditions.

1. C10FL 10″ Stationary Table Saw
This table saw is built for long rip cuts and repeated cross cuts. It has a 3 horsepower motor that is fully encased to protect it from the damages of dust and debris. The blade adjustment knobs are conveniently located on the front of the table saw. It includes a tabletop angle scale, T-slot miter gauge, and caster set, as well as a dust collection hook-up.

2. C10FR 10″ Job site Table Saw
This table saw is designed to do most of the same work as the stationary table saw but with some added features for portability. This model includes an LED light to make it easier to see the piece you are working on. It also has a cut indicator, miter gauge with nine positive stops, a dust chute, and a handy fold-and-roll stand to make moving the whole table saw easy.

3. C10RA2 Table Saw with Stand
This portable table saw is somewhat smaller than the previous two models. The motor is 2.6 horsepower with a locking rip fence and front and rear guide bars. Safety features include a clear blade guard, a splitter that directs the split wood away from the user, an anti-kickback feature, and an electric brake. The tabletop is smaller, but this table saw only weights 64 pounds.

Hitachi warrants portable tools for five years and stationary tools for two years for the original owner. Any accessories are warranted for thirty days.

The company web site includes many positive testimonials from satisfied customers. Hitachi is a well-known table saw manufacturer with many retailers around the United States, so you are sure to find one of their table saws that might fit your needs.

CeMAP Training Syllabus

The CeMAP syllabus is much more wide ranging than most people expect with the broadest syllabus being in the CeMAP 1 exam. CeMAP 1 actually covers most of the financial services industry in a summary form to give the student a general understanding of the industry. This is obviously useful to the CeMAP student who is totally inexperienced in the financial services industry, but it can come as a surprise to people who think that CeMAP training is all about mortgages and nothing else.

The CeMAP 1 syllabus also covers in some depth, the financial services regulatory environment, and how the legal framework for the financial services industry has been developed over time. This includes the impact of the European Union on the regulation of the industry and continues right through to the role of the Financial Services Authority in regulation.

CeMAP training for the module 1 exam will also cover the wide range of benefits that are available for people including a range from those who are unemployed right through to people who are retired. This information may seem strange in a CeMAP exam, but it does give the student a well rounded understanding of the financial market place.

The syllabus for CeMAP 1 also includes the classification of financial assets so that the student can understand the different types of asset that customers may hold and the impact these can have on their financial circumstances.

In total, CeMAP training for the module 1 exam only contains approximately 10% of information relevant to the mortgage industry directly.

CeMAP 2 is the module that is generally mortgage related, although even this module does contain elements that are only loosely connected to mortgages directly. The CeMAP training syllabus for the module 2 exam is broken into 4 units i.e.

Unit 3 which is Mortgage Law, Policy, Practice and Markets.

Unit 4 which covers the Mortgage Application process.

Unit 5 which describes Mortgage Payment Methods.

And Unit 6 which is Mortgage Arrears and Post Completion Matters.

Some examples of the CeMAP 2 syllabus include all of the different mortgage products for example fixed rate, standard variable rate, or discount rate mortgages. Different repayment methods are also described including the use of Pension Plans, ISA’s, and other investment products.

The mortgage application process is covered in great detail in CeMAP training for the Unit 4 exam because this is a major area of activity once the student has qualified. This unit includes such areas as assessing the status of a prospective borrower to ensure that they are eligible to borrow. It also looks at the security for the loan, in this case the property that the mortgage is being considered for. CeMAP training also covers the different types of insurance that the borrower may need, for example life cover, critical illness cover, or even buildings and contents insurance.

CeMAP 3 then takes the CeMAP 2 syllabus and uses case study type questions to explore in more depth the student’s knowledge of the subject. By setting up simulations of real life situations, the CeMAP 3 exam gives a very thorough assessment of the student, and this is a very thought provoking exam.

To conclude, as you can see CeMAP training covers a wide range of topics which is why it is vital to ensure that the student is able to study fully and comprehensively. This means that the knowledge will be complete and the student will have the best prospects for passing the three CeMAP exams. To try and rush through the learning experience is likely to result in gaps in knowledge that can only lead to problems in the future. To find out more about CeMAP training from home simply click on the link. Remember that the syllabus is broad reaching and a comprehensive course will provide you with the knowledge you need to pass the exams.

School Fund Raising – Teaching the Kids Some Responsibility

Schools are always looking for unique school fund raising projects to raise money for a wide variety of programs and needs. Traditionally many schools have sold magazines subscriptions or colleted cans and bottles, but these standard methods are getting out dated by more unique school fundraising methods. This article will help you create a school fundraising event that will not only generate more funds, but more importantly teach your kids to be more responsible.

School fund raising is an essential part of life. There never seems to be enough money to go around for the many activities that our kids get involved with. You may be one who has been put in charge of such an event, and perhaps you are at loss for new and creative ideas.

Perhaps the lesson should be just as important as the cause. What I mean by this statement is — maybe your students could be in charge of all activities and learn more than the value of the money that is raised. Let’s look at the various key points to a school fundraising event.

School Fund Raising Step One - You will need to have a committee. This committee should be chosen by the students, with some guidance by the teachers. A good committee will be made up of at least one leader and one or more students who are good at organization.

School Fund Raising Step Two - The leader and committee must first decide on a theme for their fundraiser. Once they have a theme they will be better able to divide the remaining class members into effective groups.

School Fund Raising Step Three - The committee should be instructed to evaluate each student for their unique skill sets to determine what project will fit them best. Some students are born leaders while others simply need set instructions. You may find that some students are natural at communication while others are very intimidated by this type of thing.

School Fund Raising Step Four - Since they already have theme you could advise the leaders to brainstorm some effect ways that they can create a fundraiser. You should allow them to do some research online. They could then combine that with some traditional research in the library. Once they have compiled some good data they can begin the school fundraising process.

School Fund Raising Step Five - The committee will need to assign one person to keep accurate records for every single item that is donated and purchased. They will also need to keep record of all donors and expenses that may occur for advertising or advertising materials such as poster board and such.

School Fund Raising Step Six - Some creative ideas for a school fundraiser may be to contact local and statewide businesses online. Each student could spend some time online searching for websites of businesses and then contact them. They could explain their cause and the responsibility they have been assigned. This could generate some very nice funds.

School Fund Raising Step Seven - Once you have the committee inline and each person in their proper responsibility, and have created a unique fundraiser. You are ready to have the event. You should set your sights high. If the fundraiser is not as productive as you had hoped you may still have won by teaching the kids responsibly that will last them long after the money is spent.

Making a Dremel Scroll Saw Work Like a Table Saw

Maybe you have a Dremel scroll saw, but you need to do some light rip cuts. Do you go out and buy an expensive table saw for just a couple of occasional cuts? Of course not. You can convert your Dremel scroll saw into a temporary table saw by building a little jig to cut thin pieces of material.

Step 1
Gather two “C” clamps and either a piece of wood or a metal rule with a true straight edge that is longer than the scroll saw’s table. This will serve as your makeshift fence.

Step 2
Carefully, clamp this straight edge perfectly parallel to the blade to create the fence. This may take time and be aggravating to get perfect, but it is necessary for accurate cuts. Just think of how much money you are saving by converting it for this little job.

Step 3
Once you have the makeshift fence positioned, you can mark a line on the table so that you can take it off and put it back on without any hassle.

Step 4
Use shims to create the thickness of your desired rips. For example, if the fence is 1/4″ away from the blade and you want a 1/8″ rip, you will use a 1/8″ shim between the work piece and the fence. You can also mark these distances from the fence on the table if they are going to be repeated frequently.

Step 5
To get an accurate cut, you need to hold the wood extremely firmly against the fence. It is also best to run the blade at a slower rate to keep it from wandering with the grain of the wood.

Step 6
Use the blower to keep the sawdust, which will be in a great amount, from obscuring the cut line.

These six simple steps can save you money and help you make rip cuts on small pieces of material. If you don’t have to make large cuts or do this too often, using the Dremel scroll saw as a table saw is an easy solution.

Online FOREX Trading – If You Want To Win Understand Price Momentum

If you want to win at online FOREX Trading you need to understand the importance of price momentum in putting the odds on your side.

If you don’t understand price momentum you will lose.

Let’s look at why it is so important and how to put the odds in your favor.

A common error

Most traders like to trade in the following way in online FOREX trading.

They like to buy into support and sell into resistance but they don’t pay attention to price momentum.

They hope resistance and support hold as they enter their positions and this is a recipe for disaster.

Why?

Well keep in mind this well known phrase.

A trend moving in one direction is more likely to continue than reverse.

So if prices are moving strongly to test support and resistance and price momentum is strong these levels can and do give way.

WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION!

A better way to trade is to use support and resistance and wait for them to hold before trading against these levels.

The odds will be vastly increased, as you will be looking for resistance and support to hold before taking your position and seeing price momentum weaken as the levels are tested.

This increases the odds of success for you and allows you to trade with price momentum on your side.

You won’t get in at such a good level as if you predicted correctly without using momentum, but as you can’t predict where price will go anyway always:

Wait for confirmation of a momentum change and your trade is more likely to be successful.

What indicators should I use?

By far and away the best indicator to use is the stochastic indicator.

We don’t have time to explain it in detail here, so simply read our articles.

The best set up you can get is:

For the stochastic lines to reverse and cross with either bullish or bearish divergence as the price tests support or resistance.

This will show price momentum changing and falling as the test is made, allowing you to enter a trade with momentum on your side, increasing your chances of success.

Another useful indicator to use is:

The Relative Strength Index RSI devised by Wells Wilder.

Again, if you don’t know how it works read our other articles.

Watch it to turn down as support or resistance are tested.

Get the odds on your side

The above two indicators are great for helping you judge price momentum and decide if support or resistance are going to hold.

Support and resistance levels give way frequently, but get price momentum on your side before trading and you will dramatically increase your chances of success.

Remember:

To increase your chances of success trade with price momentum on your side, the trend is your friend as the old saying goes - Act on price confirmation and don’t PREDICT.

Good luck!

How to Manifest a Better You

We are forming habits every moment of our lives. Some habits are desirable, some are undesirable. Some, though not so bad in themselves, are exceedingly bad in their cumulative effects; and cause us loss, pain and anguish. While their opposites would, on the contrary, bring as much peace and joy, as well as a continually increasing power. Do we have it within our power to determine what types of habits take form in our lives? In other words, is habit-forming, or character-building, a matter of chance, or do we have control?
The answer is YES! We have control; of our thoughts, of our action and of our reactions… “I will be what I will to be,” can and should be said by everybody.

After this has been said, and not just said, but realized, something still remains. Something remains to be said about the law of habit-forming/character-building; for there is a simple, natural, and thoroughly scientific method that we all should know. A method that if we use it; old, undesirable, earth-binding habits can be broken, and new, desirable, heaven lifting habits can be acquired. A method that when used, your life can be changed. Provided one is sincere to know, and by knowing it, to use this law.

Thought is the force underlying all things. So what does this mean? Simply this: Your every act - every conscious act - is preceded by a thought. Your dominating thoughts determine your dominating actions. In the realm of your own mind you have absolute control. If at any time you do not, then there is a method by which you can gain control, and in the realm of your mind become the master.

In order to get to the foundation of this concept, let us look at this statement for a moment: If thought is always parent to our acts, habits, character, and life, then it is necessary that we know how to control our thoughts.

To make an example to help understand this concept, let’s refer to that law of the mind which is the same as the law with the reflex system of the body. This law simply says that whenever one does a certain thing in a certain way it is easier to do the same thing in the same way the next time, and still easier the next, and the next, until, in time, almost no effort is required. Think of a habit you have that you perform every day almost effortlessly. Do you make coffee every morning in the same way? What routine do you follow in the morning? When you first started so many years ago there was effort required to get a certain task done. Then every day you completed that task again and again, day after day. Now it is a habit and you probably do not remember when there was a time that you did not do it. Do you remember the first time you made coffee in the morning?

The mind carries with it the power that perpetuates its own type of thought, the same as the body carries with it through the reflex system the power which perpetuates and makes continually easier its own particular acts. So a simple effort is required to control your thoughts, a start, a get to it, an actual exertion of will, a little effort.

If at first failure is the result, or even if for a time failure seems to be about the only result, keep trying. It will in time, sooner or later, bring you to the point of easy, full, and complete control. When you learned a skill were you an overnight success? Probably not, you had to learn step a, then step b and so on until you could accomplish the task for the first time. Then the second time became a little faster, a little easier. Then one day you found yourself having people come to you to be taught. The first time you rode a bike or roller skated, was it a work of beauty? Do you think Olympic athletes just woke up this morning and decided to go win a medal as it sounds like something to do today? No it took that fear causing word that so many people hate; practice.

With practice, and more practice, each of us can grow the power of determining, controlling our thought. The power of determining what types of thought you will have and what thought you will not. Never forget this one fact; that every earnest effort along any line makes the end aimed at just a little easier for each succeeding effort. Once you start, the next time is easier, even if, as has been said, apparent failure is the result of your first efforts. This is a case where even failure is success, for the failure is not in the effort, and every earnest effort adds an increment of power that will eventually accomplish the end aimed at.

You can, with a sincere effort and practice, gain full and complete power of determining what type of thoughts you entertain, and in doing so you can become the person you know you should be.

10 Reasons Not To Take Your Mother-In-Law On Holiday

  1. She won’t like it. Whether you are staying in a five star beachfront hotel or a luxury private villa (my personal preference) she won’t be happy and will constantly refer back to her trip to Bexhill in 1974, which was much “nicer”.
  2. The food won’t agree with her. When you are in a restaurant, she will order the most basic-sounding item on the menu and then push it around her plate for half an hour while bemoaning the lack of gravy. (Whatever you do, don’t encourage her to try any of the more exotic dishes; the consequences could be catastrophic for the soft furnishings).
  3. She will spoil your children. The painstaking healthy-eating regime you have spent all year championing to your kids will be dead in the water when Mother-in-Law presents them each with a large bag of multi-coloured ‘locally produced’ sweets half an hour before their bedtime. This ensures they are still scuffling briskly with each other well into the time you had set aside for quiet drinks on the terrace.
  4. Your children will prefer her to you. (See no.3) And they will not hesitate in proclaiming loudly - always within the hearing of at least a dozen other people - how you cruelly starve them and how it is only Nanny’s presence that keeps them nourished at all.
  5. She will cause rows between you and your partner - who is, after all, her little boy or girl. No matter how irritating she becomes, the secret here is simple; only ever agree with your partner’s criticisms of their mother. Never - under any circumstances - venture your own suggestions unless you have a full battalion of UN Peacekeepers standing by.
  6. You will have to see her in her bikini. One for the men, this, because you are going to have to spend a lot of time with your Mother-in-Law dressed in just the equivalent of her bra and knickers (her, not you). At the risk of seeming unkind, if this were the outcome you had wanted you would have married her in the first place instead of her daughter.
  7. She will not pay. For anything. Mainly because her feeble attempts to wave a bit of local currency under your nose will be brushed aside by your partner with “Absolutely not Mum,” or “It’s our turn to treat you now”. Try to carry out covert unilateral negotiations with Mother-in-Law before the trip and secure a cheque you must cash before your partner gets to hear about it. This may cause a stir when they find out what you’ve done, but hey, the money’s in the bank!
  8. She will drink too much. And tell you enthusiastically about an ex-boy/girlfriend of your partner’s and how in love they were and how everyone thought they were going to get married and settle down together somewhere near to home. (See no.5).
  9. She won’t baby-sit. She will frequently offer to stay in and look after your children so you and your partner can “go and enjoy yourselves”, but when the time comes to leave, the children have decided they are not staying in and ‘Nanny’ appears on the stairs, rouged up to the nines, having been persuaded by your little darlings to come along.
  10. She will cook. If you are staying in a villa (advisable) then she will scotch your plans for that evening by going to the freezer at 7am and taking out a bag of chicken drumsticks. Throughout the day she will be humming and chattering in the kitchen while deftly concocting everybody’s favourite - chicken chasseur. She will present this steaming dish to your family - who will be still sweating from the 90 degree heat - at 6pm served with green beans and boiled potatoes. And gravy.
  11. Disclaimer: While the above list is born out of a certain amount of personal experience, I should point out that none of the qualities referred to apply to my own dear Mother-in-Law, who is the very epitome of tact and understanding.
