One of the most common concerns in Christians new to the faith is assurance. New converts spend a lot of time working out their own salvation in their minds. Too often they convince themselves that they are not born again after all, because they don’t ‘feel” like they are.

As they work through their doubts, they fear that the Lord might return before they have ensured that they are right with him. Essentially they fear he may come back too soon. This is human nature. I think most Christians go through this phase. It is hard to accept that reconciliation with God can be as simple as asking his forgiveness and accepting his son, and that one need not feel saved to be saved.

Seasoned Christians, who have grown under the teaching and preaching of their pastor and others in ministry, no longer need such assurance, because the evidence of their conversion is seen in the change wrought in their lives by the Holy Spirit. Somewhere in one’s Christian experience, a metamorphosis takes place and we go from worrying that God will come too soon to worrying that he won’t come soon enough. Indeed, many older believers have a longing deep inside them to be with the Lord.

While on a break from a workshop he was attending in a neighboring city, a young man rushed to the corner cafe for lunch. When the waiter came to his table to take his order, both the man and the waiter were stunned at the other’s appearance. They were mirror images of each other.

Shaken, the man asked the waiter to sit and talk. They soon discovered that they were brothers, identical twins, who had apparently been separated at birth due to separate adoptions, but who were never told about each other.

As they shared their experiences and got to know each other, they learned that both of them had felt a longing and emptiness that they could not explain for as long as they could remember. It was as if they were incomplete and were waiting for something or someone. Meeting each other by chance had satisfied that longing.

Believers experience a similar longing in their hearts. It is more than just the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives. There seems to be an unseen bond connecting us to our savior. We feel an emptiness that makes us long for heaven’s shore. Consequently, until we see him face to face, like the twins, we feel incomplete.

I am reminded of the words of the wonderful song “Beulah Land.” The first couple of lines capture splendidly the longing of the Christian heart for that place where they will be in their Savior’s presence.

“I’m kind of homesick for a county to which I’ve never been before”

Young Christian be of good cheer. If you have asked the Lord into your heart, it doesn’t matter how you feel, because feelings change. We are fickle, emotional creatures. Trust his Word and not your feelings. You name is written in the Book of Life and it can never be blotted out. If you must feel badly let your ailment be only that you are homesick for heaven.

Depending on what part of the world you live in, ticks can occur all year around. For most of us however, late spring means that the tick-free winter is over and it is time to start taking precautions.

As someone who has had Lyme disease I believe it is important for people to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their families from exposure to these blood-sucking parasites. The symptoms of this disease are many and varied, but all are distressful. Fortunately, diagnosis has become easier and remedy is sure.

For our pets however, this is not always true. Like heartworms, sometimes the effects of the disease can go unnoticed until grave physical harm has occurred. They aren’t able to tell us that they are feeling a little off their game. Consequently, when the disease is discovered in the later stages, recovery is not always sure. For that reason, extra and early protection is important for our pets.

There are numerous things that you can do to make your pet “undesirable” to ticks (and fleas). Professional dips are best, but if cost is a concern, you can buy over the counter dips that you can apply yourself. There are time-release salves, pills, sprays and powders. All are non-toxic and relatively inexpensive, but afford different levels of protection. Nevertheless, it is always a good idea to check with your veterinarian to ensure that the products will not be harmful to your pet. This is especially important with cats, because they are generally more sensitive to chemicals than dogs.

Since experts say it takes more than 24 hours for a tick to infect an animal with Lyme disease, the best prevention would be a daily inspection regimen to locate and remove any parasitical predators. There are several methods recommended for safe removal of ticks. Search the internet and chose the one right for you. By the way, there are other lesser diseases that ticks can cause, some of which do not take as long to manifest, but Lyme is perhaps the most threatening and the focus of this writing. It is suggested you read about the others at your leisure.

Don’t let your efforts end with fortifying your pets coat. Next, focus on your yard or the area you walk your animals in. Keeping your yard closely trimmed and pruned will go a long way to making the unwanted critters feel uncomfortable. You need to beat back the varmints and chase them off into the woods where they belong. Then, you need to stay out of the area you chased them to, at least until cold weather forces them underground again.

There are as many products available to treat your yard as there are to treat your animal. Most are adequate to give protection to the average yard, but if you have property with heavy underbrush, you might consider having someone do the job professionally.

Treatments for ticks will usually also defend against fleas and other parasites that attack our pets. Whichever product or method you chose to use, it would be again wise to call your veterinarian and ask him/her if it is appropriate for your area. Usually your vet will be happy to give you a few minutes of their time for something like this. Once more, be especially cautious if you have cats that you let out into your yard. Cats are often more sensitive to chemicals. Check it out first. Be sure. A tick bite might do less damage than the wrong chemical.

The important thing to remember when you are applying chemical defense to your yard is that ticks are also arboreal. Their modus operandi is to climb out on the ends of branches of small bushes, the bark of trees or fence posts and wave their barbed legs out into the air waiting for some poor unsuspecting animal to walk by.

When contact is made, they immediately release their grip on whatever they are holding on to and hitch a ride on the passerby. Then they work their way to a place of their liking and began their dastardly work. So spray low, and then spray high as well. One final word of caution…while the spray is designed to not harm pets, be careful not to spray bird or squirrel feeders as it could prove toxic to them.

Tick…tick…tick…better hurry.

You’ll only need to look at your credit card statement for 20 seconds to know that the event is costing an arm and a leg already. The bills are stacking up what with the venue costs, catering, transport, 100’s of little extras we never even thought of and that ‘must have’ new outfit. You need some entertainment but can’t stretch to hire a band. A DJ will do - won’t it?

For the majority of us, our memories are interspersed with some seriously great musical experiences. I don’t confess to being at Woodstock in ‘69, seeing Sinatra at Caesars Palace in the 80s or Michael Jackson at Wembley in ‘97. However, I’m sure many of you will recall the uncontrollable excitement when hearing some of your most loved artists perform at gigs you’ve been to. It’s not just the music is it? It’s the sound, the buzz, that incredible sensation when a collective group of music lovers gets together and ‘worships’ something that is great.

Don’t get me wrong - hiring a bad band is awful. Usually, aside from a few exceptions, you get what you pay for. But, let’s face it, how many times in our lives will we have an occasion to hire a band? A wedding, a 21st or 40th birthday party? It’s worth pushing the boat out for these events. (Flashback to mother - “If you’re going to do something - do it properly”). Remember - the music is a treat for you and your guests so stretch the purse string that little bit more and mark the occasion with something everyone will talk about for a long time to come? That is the real reason to hire a good live band. It’s about making memories. You’ll never get that time back.

Sickness is something that can not be completely avoided. Everyone knows this to be the truth. At some point or another, everyone gets sick enough to need the help of a doctor. Anyone who hasn’t, may have a problem that has gone undetected. So, there is just no truth to the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

Being a doctor is very difficult because he/she has to always be organized and there is no margin for error. The reason for this is because of the life or death decisions that are the daily reality of being a doctor. Unlike casino gambling where casual risks are acceptable, a doctor can’t gamble casually with a patient’s life. It goes against everything he/she has been taught to practice in thought and deed. People in the medical profession are there because they have the desire and are trained competently to preserve life and not to casually waste it.

Needed Tools Prepared in Advance

Before a patient ever enters the operating room, the doctor will make sure all the instruments needed for the procedure are in their proper place and sterile. He/she won’t have to actually do this job because there are nurses and scrub techs that set up all the items necessary. The doctor still needs to make sure that all is in proper order, though before beginning the procedure..

Once surgery has started, it can’t be stopped in the middle because the forceps or surgical sponges are either not on the tray or are in the wrong position and not easily accessible. Such an occurrence would waste time and result on more bleeding than is necessary. Since the life of the patient is in the doctor’s hands, he/she must use time wisely to maximize the patient’s good outcome.

The doctor must know exactly every instrument that will be needed during surgery so he/she can quickly see if any are missing or in the wrong position. Incompetence is not something that can be afforded in this situation.

Narrow Beam Focus

The doctor also needs to keep his/her focus on the immediate point of concern. If the patient is having a hot gall bladder removed, it is not the time to be examining the duodenum. That can wait until after the gall bladder has been remove and the area completely taken care of.

The surgery could become unnecessarily complicated if the surgeon’s focus strays from the task at hand. He/she must stay focused on the gall bladder or it could rupture if its removal is delayed because of a lack of focus.

Once concentration is diverted to another area, such as the appendix, a rupture could occur, causing severe infection and even loss of life. So losing concentration and focus would be considered an inexcusable error.

During medical training, doctors learn to keep a narrow focus in surgical and non-surgical cures and treatments. For this reason, a well-trained doctor is one that can be trusted when you get sick and need medical help.

Even so, there are still time when doctors make errors. Some have managed to complete training even though they are incompetent. These are doctors who should not be in the medical profession and really should look into a career change that would be a better fit. The medical profession is not the place for a casual attitude in focus and concentration.

The ability to focus and concentrate intensely is required of doctors. No one can be successful as a doctor without these attributes. If you have aspirations of becoming a doctor, work on developing the ability to stay intensely focused and concentrated on the task in front of you. This is especially important is you dream of becoming a surgeon.

#1. - OPEN ACCOUNTS! - I have worked with several people that either had a Bankruptcy or got in trouble with credit cards and canceled them all. They use cash only now, thinking that is the best way to go. Well that is a great way to do things. However not if your trying to get a home loan or any other type of loan. In fact sometimes people don’t even generate a FICO score because they don’t have any credit at all! Thats bad news. You need three active credit accounts, preferably for one year to help your cause. “That means I have to use credit cards again? In the past they ruined me!” Well yea thats pretty much what it means. But lets understand how credit cards and loans effect your FICO score. First of all a FICO score doesn’t look at your job or how much money you make. You could have no debt and a $100,000.00 a year job but if you dont have active accounts, your FICO score may still be low. That means higher interest rates on loans. Here is what you can expect in terms of interest rates in relation to what your FICO score is:

• FICO score:– APR:
• 760-850—– 5.918%
• 700-759—– 6.140%
• 660-699—– 6.424%
• 620-659—– 7.234%
• 580-619—– 8.777%
• 500-579—– 9.670%

Many people aren’t aware that you cant really negotiate the rate much with lenders. That FICO score indicates your risk factor. You may know you can pay your loan but they don’t. When they see a 500 credit score they think there is a huge risk you will default on your loan, so they give you the interest rate that makes them the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. Don’t think the lenders actually care about you or your circumstances they don’t, they care about money, thats it, thats the bottom line. They see your score and offer you that high risk rate loan. No matter how good a loan officer/Broker is they cant get a 6% interest rate for someone with a 550 score. It doesn’t matter how long you shop around. They can however lower their fees for you, give you great service, give you a no Yield Spread Premium loan, etc. Thats why its good to shop around for loan officers and find someone who honestly cares about you, your goals, and your money. I like to treat everyones loan who comes to me as if it were my own. Any way back to credit cards and how they help. Ok so you have a credit card with a $1,000.00 limit. If you carry a balance of $850 on it you will actually hurt your credit score. You see FICO wants to see how you manage your money and bases a score on that. If it thinks you aren’t managing your money wisely then you get a lower score. If however you are carrying a balance of around 30% and making your payments on time every month that will help your credit score, looks like your managing your money well. Now it doesn’t make a difference if you have a credit limit of $300 or a Platinum $10,000 limit card it works the same way. So if you’ve had problems in the past with credit cards my suggestion is use them for small things like gas and make sure you have the money to pay them off. Remember Credit Cards are basically LOANS NOT cash! You have to pay them back and sometimes at substantial interest. Please don’t ever think of credit cards as cash. Credit cards help your FICO score by showing that you can manage your money responsibly and pay your debts on time. Your score gets higher as you continue to pay every month for years. Which will help you get a higher score a lower risk factor with the lenders and a better interest rate saving you $1,000s and $1,000.00s of dollars.

#2.- NEVER GO OVER 30 DAYS LATE ON ANYTHING! - Many people want to refinance their homes because they have gone 1,2,3 or even more months late on their mortgage. They have a 7% interest rate and suppose they can refinance at the same and take some cash out as well. If you have gone even once 30 days past due on a mortgage that is a killer to your FICO score. It causes it to just tank! So once that happens your going to end up in the High Risk score column. Your account moves to the “unsatisfactory” column on your credit report and Your refinance loan may be 9% or more and you may not even get financing. Remember the lenders just want to make money. What do you think they see when someone is 3 months past due on their current mortgage at 7% and they can only offer them a 10% loan at $300 more per month. They see default. If you think you might be short of money and before you go 30 days past due try to get refinancing then! Don’t wait till its too late because your going to be stuck with this high interest loan until you can clean up your credit report and your score goes up. That could take 1, 2, or even 3 years or more! Don’t ever go 30 days late on your credit cards! You may get charged a fee, and your interest may go sky high after you accidentally pay 10 days late, but, if you don’t go 30 days or more it wont go on your credit report. 30 DAYS LATE=TANKING FICO SCORE. Remember that.

#3.- CHECK YOUR CREDIT REPORT - Get a copy of your credit report so you can see if there are any inaccuracies on it. Most people actually have one or two inaccuracies on their report. You may have old collection accounts that should be removed. These should be looked at carefully and then disputed with the credit agencies. There are 3 credit reporting agencies. EQUIFAX, EXPERIAN (formerly trw) and TRANS UNION. You will need to order a copy from each and dispute each individually they are seperate companies. You should try to do this BEFORE talking with your loan officer/Broker/Lender. Your score can go up significantly in 30 days or less by removing inaccurate information. Just about everything on wheels requires tires and there are several brands and type to choose from. Choosing the right tire is important for both safety and economy. Hear the saying; “Right Tool For The Right Job”? Well when it comes to tires, you got to get it right or you’re going to pay later.

Cars, trucks, ATV’s, motorcycles, and even scooters require the right tire. If you don’t use the right tire, or better yet, you choose a scooter, cause it’s cheap and don’t even look at the tires, then you’re only cheating yourself.

Case in point: Your granddaughter, who is 9 years old calls and ask you for a new electric scooter. You don’t want to disappoint her, so you say that you will look into it. During your research, you find what appears to be the perfect kids electric scooter. It folds down, it’s lightweight, it only goes about 10 miles per hour and it’s only $70.00. She will love it.

What you did not see was what type of tires are on it. Are they solid soft rubber, solid hard rubber, or maybe even solid hard plastic compound? Believe me, this is one area that you should look at before spending your money. Is this the right tire for your little angel?

Most push and kick scooters come with hard, solid rubber tires/wheels. Though the registered carrying capacity is over 100 pounds, it is my recommendation not to exceed 50-60 pounds with these types of wheels. Kids electric scooters are rated for a maximum weight carrying capacity based on what the motor will handle. Electric scooters with these types of tires will not last long if the riding area is not a smooth, flat, no porous or rocky surface.

The solid soft rubber wheels will get chewed up with these types of riding surfaces and you will be replacing the wheels often. The more weight that is put on these scooters, the more rapid the wheels will wear out. Stick to under 70 lbs.

The solid hard Rubber wheels are a little better, as they will not get chewed up as easily. Most electric scooters that range in the 120-150 watt area come with these types of wheels. Theses wheels will last longer than the solid soft rubber wheels, but there is a trade off as well. The solid hard rubber tires are harder on the surface which will give a rougher ride on uneven surfaces. The only issue with these tires is that they can dry out and dry-rot over time. They also will develop cracks or large chips from banging against curbs.

The scooters that have tires that come with solid hard plastic compound wheels are almost a thing of the past. However, there are still some manufacturers that take the cheap way out, so be careful. Our advice is stay away from these ancient wheels altogether. The chip easily, small rocks get embedded in the wheels, there is no cushion to these wheels, therefore you are riding on rocks and they do break.

Customers are utmost important in business. Without customers, or loyal customers, businesses are next to non-existent. Even if customers are wrong, they are “always right” as they are the “kings” to one business. How to tackle complaints or customers’ dissatisfaction in order to ensure that they will keep coming back to us? Follow these four simple steps. Most of the times it works;

Hear

Most of us are good in using our mouths than our ears. We are good speakers but poor listeners. In handling complaints listening skills are vital. Listen more, talk less! Try to understand the nature of the complaint. Let the customer to express what the dissatisfactions are all about. More often, complainants were just wanted to be heard. This will make them “feel good” as somebody is caring enough and willing to listen to them. Listen with anticipation, good eye-contact and proper body gestures. Ask details should you need more clarification. If required, repeat what they said to ensure their message were correctly interpreted.

Empathy

Try “putting yourself in their shoes”. What will be your reaction should the same thing happen to you. If you were they, what will be your expectation? Try to view the complaint in their perspective. Make them feel that you really understand their problems.

Accept responsibility

Somebody have to be accountable to the complaint. That will be “you” as the owner or representative of the business. That is the least that the dissatisfy customers need to know. Satisfy them first. They just need to know that somebody is taking the responsibility.

Take action

Proceed with the remedial actions. If you are unable to do it immediately, give a time-frame and inform the customer. Do not forget to update the customer the outcome from time to time. You are in a process of trust-building so the customer will keep coming back to you.

In addition, do not forget to use those “magic” word; “sorry”. If you are unable to accommodate to their needs, tell them how you wish you can help but you really can not. Impress upon them that you are trying you best to help. Give alternatives if you are capable of doing so.

Remember the four steps; Hear, Empathy, Accept responsibility and Take action (H-E-A-T). Do not let customer to “bad-mouth” your business with their word-of-mouth. Remember, they are kings and they are always right.
