You can learn to play popular melodies without sheet music. Today you will learn to use piano tab notation to learn a popular song!

Piano tabs show you where to play the notes on the piano. We will today use the numbers 1 to 8 to help you find the notes.

First we will locate the note 1. It is the note that is found to the left of two black keys. There are many such places on a piano but I suggest that you choose a number one somewhere in the middle of the keyboard.

The note 1 is also called C. The notes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and 8 are also called C D E F G A B and C.

The note named 2 in our piano tab notation is the white key immediately to the right of 1. Then note 3 is the white key to the right of 2 and so on.

Let’s start by taking a look at the lyrics for the first verse:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

We will start to play the melody to the first line of lyrics:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound

1 4 6 4 6 5 4 2 1

This type of piano tab does not tell you the length of the notes. If you sing the lyrics you will probably feel how long the notes should be.

Time for the next line:

That saved a wretch like me

1 4 6 4 6 5 6 8

Maybe you are using your right hand index finger to play all notes and I guess it works with this easy melody. I suggest that you try to use all right hand fingers to play the melody, including the thumb.

This will help you prepare for more difficult piano pieces and when you get used to play this way you will feel that it is in fact easier to play this way.

If you want to play chords with your left hand I will give you three piano chords that will work with the song.

I will write them down with the same piano tab notation you already know but you of course have to play the chords starting with a 1 note somewhere to the left of the numbers you use for the melody:

F: 1 4 6

Bb: 2 4 7b

C7: 1 3 7b

7b means that you instead of playing on the white 7 key should play the black key to the left of the white key 7.

In the following text I have placed the chord names in parenthesis immediately before the syllable on which to play the chord:

As my old piano teacher used to say, learn one thing at a time. Start with learning the right hand melody by heart, line by line. Learn to play the chords by heart and then try to sing the song together with the chords.

When you have learned to sing the song with the chords by heart it’s time to combine the melody with the chords. By now it should be easy.

Like most hunters, as far back as I can remember, I have always been passionately involved in “The Chase.” From fishing in the gutter at age 6 (my Mom’s proudest moment), to trapping birds in my backyard with bread, box, stick and string. Surprisingly, I was successful a few times, I just never thought ahead far enough to consider “What am I going to do with the bird once I catch it?” OK, I am a slow learner.

At age 10, I evolved. My parents bought my first BB Gun for my birthday. I was now a hunter! After passing the mandatory proficiency test in the backyard given by my Dad, it was now “Game-On.” Every day after school, I was off to the woods. I couldn’t get home fast enough! Even at the age of 10, I was passionately involved in The Chase. No snake, sparrow or squirrel was safe. I would put the sneak on them.

With a pocket full of BB’s, my Daisy and bicycle, it was off to the woods. My entire childhood was spent in the woods learning about how nature works and interacts. I became part of the circle of life. Predator and prey. Nothing was more rewarding than sitting in the woods, quiet. Watching. Listening. Growing. Things in the woods made sense. It was there I learned the “spirit” of the hunt.

After wearing out 2.5 Daisy’s, I was given a 10-pump pellet gun. I quickly learned how to clean squirrels and on more than one occasion, I provided a fine dinner of “fried squirrel” for the whole family. Looking back, I don’t recall seeing Mom ever actually eat any of it, but she always cooked ‘em up for me and my friends! Thanks, Mom!

Now, as much as ever, the chase is part of my life. I have since graduated from squirrel hunting to deer hunting, but the thrill is just the same. Squirrel, rabbit, deer. It doesn’t matter. It is all about the chase. Getting close. Focus. Take it all in. Become part of the natural circle that man has been part of for thousand’s of years, even since Biblical times. I am proud to be a hunter. It is who I am. I was created this way. I didn’t choose this. My well-fed cat is a hunter, too. It is natural.

The Chase. The mention of it stirs our soul. It reminds us what is important! It is what makes our life exciting and what every one of us wants: a passionate pursuit of something challenging and important. It is as important as water. A college degree. Wealth. If you do use a tracking service that uses tracking links, instead send your visitors to a page hosted on your web domain, and redirect them to the tracking link.

That way, if you choose to discontinue using the ad tracking company, or they go out of business, you simply change the redirect on your pages. This is still cumbersome if you have to make a change, but it is far better than the alternative - losing your inbound links.

Another ad tracking solution is to use an ad tracking service that uses javascript or some other form of code to identify each individual visitor to your web page itself, and correlate that with code you would put on your thank pages or download pages. The downside to this is that you have to install the code on all relevant pages, and if you have hundreds or thousands that can be time or cost prohibitive.

Still another solution is to incorporate your autoresponders’ tracking system into your web site. You are already going to be installing autoresponder code on each of your web pages, so by creating unique web forms for each web page, in effect you are isolating the source of each subscriber to your web site, and identifying them based on their name and email address. Your autoresponder will create individual squeeze page conversion rates, and you can manually calculate sales conversion rates. At this point, you simply correlate the sales on your web site to their respective source, and calculate conversion rates per source per product.

Although this solution is the most cumbersome, it is the least intrusive to your web site, and gives you the most freedom in terms of changes to your web site and the tracking service.

So how do you test a squeeze page?

When you are testing a squeeze page (or a sale page) you need to change only one element on the page at a time. If you change more than one element, you will not know which one is responsible for the change (or lack thereof) in conversion rate.

If you were to send all of your traffic to one squeeze page, and try to maximize or optimize that squeeze page across all traffic, you might have some traffic that converts at 50% and others that converts at 10% - but you will only show a 30% conversion rate, for example.

By isolating each traffic source and testing and tweaking each individual squeeze page and traffic source, you can increase your conversion rates across the board.

So how do you test?

There are a number of different ways you can test and track your results.

One way to do this is to use ad tracking software. Some software uses cookies that are put on a visitors’ computer, and they track when that same visitor opt ins to a specific web page. Some software actually identifies the visitors’ computers’ IP address, and uses that to track the visitors’ behaviour.

One word of caution: if you use ad tracking software, do not advertise the tracking links, if your ad tracking software uses tracking links. Basically tracking links are links generated by the ad tracking software, and are hosted on their computer, and either redirect to your content, or host your content on their servers.

Obviously, doing it this way makes things easy, unless the ad tracking company goes out of business, or you choose to discontinue using their services. What happens to all the links you have advertised?

They no longer go to your site - so you lose any links you have worked hard to create.

I have noticed a trend lately and it involves the insertion of a phrase before what we do to pay the bills each month. It isn’t an important phrase and it really doesn’t have any right to be inserted in the first place, but it is just the same, now-a-days. The unimportant phrase I am referring to is the phrase ‘justa’. Think back to a time when either you or another inserted the phrase before stating your title or profession, such as “I’m ‘justa’ stay at home mom”, or “I’m ‘justa’ furniture mover”.

This phenomenon has lead me to wonder how many years of higher education it would take for one to be fortunate enough to have a profession or title that didn’t follow the phrase ‘justa’. I also wonder, while on the subject, if professional criminals have to follow the same unwritten rules, as we do. I mean do they have to say, no sir, I’m ‘justa’ get-away driver? What about, ‘justa’ jewelry thief and ‘justa’ bank robber? Or is this just a silly phenomenon not worth mention?

If we study the whole silly phenomenon just a bit, I think we will find that the whole phrase insertion process is a product of egotism? Some so-called, superior ‘other’ person, sometime referred to collectively as ‘them’, told us that we must insert the phrase under penalty of something, because ‘they’ were better than us because we had, only a low level job. While on studying, I did wonder if I would find that the insertion process was nothing more than a product of our own low self esteem, therefore self inflicted or justly due to another’s egotism, and/or a combination of both. The fact that certain higher paying professions are exempt from having to insert simply re-enforces this point. However, this isn’t carved into stone and seems to be as full of special conditions as the original insertion unwritten rules.

After wrestling with all the unwritten customary insertion policies and rules of use, I was left wondering; if a cancer doctor would introduced himself as ‘justa’ doctor of medicine, would anyone allow him to operate? I have also wondered on Sunday mornings lately, if I would still be in the pew if the minister introduced himself as ‘justa’ minister. What about ‘justa’ police officer on a poorly lit side street at two in the morning? Would I allow ‘justa’ fireman to carry me down the ladder away from a burning building. Lastly, I’ve wondered how many strong healthy young men and women would follow the orders of ‘justa’ president!

You see, the more I unraveled the unwritten rules and conditions for the phrase insertion I realized that it was all silly rubbish and truly needed to be done away with! It was simply nothing more than a product of our own low self-esteem. How many times have we conditioned the ears of our children to such foolishness by saying I am ‘justa’ car salesman or ‘justa’ home school mom? As silly as it sounds, it is even more silly for us to use the phrase insertion in the first place. Now if someone, who thought a bit more of themselves than they should have, gave us the phrase and all the insertion rules, I say give it back! We don’t need the phrase and we surely won’t miss it. We can and will live very well without its silly nonsense.

There are no ‘justa’ anyone’s. If you replace the phrase with a more fitting, and descriptive word, such as lowly, unimportant, or ineffective. Then one would be forced to stop and remove the inserted phrase all together, because we now would be entering the ‘political correctness’ arena and we don’t want to go in there! In the process of removing the inserted phrase ‘justa’, we all became more important and needed once again, worthy of love and friendship! It’s like everyone all of a sudden just received a promotion by throwing out the inserted ‘justa’ phrase! Now we can once again be proud of ‘a honest days work’!

It is critically important that you test the web copy on your squeeze page. I have squeeze pages that convert at 10%, and I have squeeze pages that convert at 65%. This varies dramatically based on the traffic source and the squeeze page itself. Sometimes a small change in the script will create a big change in the conversion rate.

Think about this. Assume that your average visitor cost is 10 cents. Assume that your average conversion rate is 10%. That means your cost per subscriber is $1. Imagine that you can increase the conversion rate on that particular source of traffic to 30%. Your cost per subscriber will go down to 33 cents.

You can look at that two ways. You can either afford more subscribers on the same budget, or you can increase the profit per subscriber - or both.

One thing that is important to remember is that each traffic source will convert differently, and will convert differently on different squeeze pages.

For example, a referred visitor or an article generated visitor may not need much ad copy to get them to subscribe - when they get to your squeeze page they are already prepared to opt in, regardless of the offer - and in fact may convert at a lower rate if they have to read a long article to get to the opt in box.

However, non-referred (or cold) traffic may need to read 300-500 words from you before they will trust you enough to give you their name and email address.

So in these two cases, the source of traffic dictates the type and copy of the squeeze page.
