Cartoon Drawing Can Reduce Your Child’s Excessive Addiction to Video Games

It is fact that these days videogames are growing in popularity. People especially children spend long hours playing videogames. The available game options are really diverse. There are various versions of PlayStation, Xbox and other gaming consoles. Other than these consoles there are a number of attractive PC-based games available in market. And now with the advent of PSP and mobile phone based games you can play games even when you are away from home.

While no one can deny the fact that videogames are good for developing hand eye coordination in young children and some games which are strategy based give good exercise to their grey matter, it is doubtful what good this videogames culture will ultimately do to the creativity of the younger generation because spending most of the free hours playing video games leaves very little time for pursuing other interests.

To preserve the sanity of everybody concerned, something needs to be done very seriously and urgently to reduce this addiction.

Videogames cannot be taken out of a child’s life totally, but its attraction can be reduced substantially. And cartoons can play a vital role here. But we’re not talking of watching TV cartoon shows. Children instinctively love to draw, at the same time they also love cartoons. If they are encouraged to take up the cartoon drawing it will help to channel their energy to a much more creative and entertaining activity.

Cartoon drawing is a quite inexpensive hobby, and one can get started with a pencil, a pad and an eraser. But this inexpensive hobby can be a fulfilling, rewarding and creatively satisfying profession in later years.

The beauty of the whole thing is when in course of time the child starts picking up cartooning skills his attraction to videogames and total time of the day spent with games both will drop. Plus when parents, his peers like and praise his drawings his overall confidence in his own abilities gets a well deserved boost. Which is good not only for his cartooning skills but this also helps him to grow into a confident and well adjusted adult.

For a youngster his skills in cartoon drawing –which was taken up just for fun– can prove to be a real asset for his career. Animator, Web designer, illustrator, art instructor and various other similar professional options will be open for him.

So encourage your kid to take up cartoon drawing as a hobby and see how it transforms him.

Cell Phone Number Portability Explained

So what exactly is cell phone number portability (officially called Wireless Local Number Portability or Wireless LPN)?

Cell Phone Number Portability is an option that a customer has where they can either keep their same cell phone number when changing from one cell phone carrier to another or get a new cell phone number. This only applies when moving within the metropolitan area. If your are moving from state to state or city to city the Wireless LPN does not apply. However some cell phone providers will port your same cell phone number when moving from state to state. Some cell phone providers will also charge a small amount to port your number from your old provider while most providers will provide this service for free. You will have to check with your new cell phone provider if there is a cost for the cell phone number portability. If you do decide to port your number it should only take a few hours for your new cell phone carrier to port your number from your old cell phone provider. It is usually a very seamless process. Some cell phone carriers will also port a land line phone number to your cell phone.

Back in the old days when you changed your cell phone carrier you also HAD to get a new cell phone number. There was not an option to keep your same phone number. This was a big inconvenience for consumers. The new Wireless Local Number Portability is a great feature that should be taken advantage of. Now when you change cell phone providers you don’t have to give your new cell phone number out to all of your friends and family. It is such a hassle first to remember to tell all of your friends and family that you have a new phone number and second actually letting everybody know your new number. What if you forget to tell some of your friends and family? Then they will never know your new phone number and will not be able to get a hold of you. That’s why this new cell phone number portability is so great. You will never have to worry about telling your friends and family about your new number. They will already have your cell phone number.

I was in Jail in Gulfport, MS for a DUI. Oh yes, me, the famous Bob Wilkerson, at least I thought I was famous, or famous in my own eyes, was in jail again. While incarcerated a great philosopher, an old time criminal taught me a lesson about life I would never forget.

I needed a cigarette and obtaining this simple little pleasure in jail, with no money and nothing to trade wasn’t an easy thing chore. I watched this old man laying for about an hour. He looked kind and courteous and he had plenty of rolls, cigarettes, so I thought I would meander over and ask him if he would be so kind as to let me have one. So, I walked over and ask him for a cig and with the voice of god he proclaim, “son ain’t nothing free… no sir nothing in here or in life is free.” He rolled over on his mattress and didn’t say another word.

I didn’t get a cigarette but I did learn a valuable lesson about life. Yeah, before this cigarette adventure I knew nothing was free but this time it really hit home.

I went back to my mattress on the floor and thought a lot about all the things in life that seemed to be free but in reality they all cared a price tag. Like the box of Kellogg’s cereal I had for breakfast this morning had the words in large letters FREE KEY CHAIN. As I continued to read the box, looking for the catch, I discovered free key chains were only given if you donated five dollars to some great cause. The words of the old man in jail echoed in my mind once again, “son ain’t nothing in life free.”

Eph 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

What’s the catch? The only thing I can think of that is actually free is God’s gift to mankind, His only son. Well, I guess birthday presents are free and that sort of thing but the marvelous thing about God is offers us Free admission into heaven. You can’t buy salvation from self and sin. You can’t barge for it nor can you be good enough for it. You simple have to reach out and take it. Wow, something in life is free but it actually cost Jesus everything. For us it is 100% free.

One day I made the decision to ask Him to change me, to save me from self and it worked. I didn’t do a thing for it but ask. Wow, yes, by grace are you saved through an exercise of faith, it really is a gift. Today reach out and take what God has for you. I promise it does work.

Registry Repair Cleaners

Registry repair cleaners work to get rid of computer errors, and more specifically, registry errors. These types of errors can cause a lot of stress to someone if they are experiencing them. Some of these errors would be items such as the following:

Computer freezing or locking up: This would be where you are working on a program, or surfing the internet and the computer just stops. It will not allow you to do anything. The only way to get out of it is to hold the power button for 5 seconds and manually shut down and start over.

Computer restarting: Sometimes you are just working along and the computer just restarts for no reason.

Programs just stop working: This is where the program stops responding. You have seen those messages that say the program encountered an error, or is not responding. You can get out of this by pressing the ctrl-alt-delete at the same time, and close the program.

If you have experienced any of these, registry repair cleaners will find these errors, and fix them. The reason these errors happen is because of installing and uninstalling software. Also, if you have downloaded anything such as music on the internet, you will have these problems. The programs, when installed or uninstalled, will change your registry files. The can remove registry files, or just change them. Once this happens, if a program is looking for a registry file to get started, and it is not there, the computer will just freeze. In other words, this program will not work. Fixing the registry files will prevent these types of errors.

Registry repair cleaners help to seek out these types of errors, and get rid of them. If you have ever had to deal with these types of errors, you no longer need to worry. Use a registry repair cleaner to get your computer back.

A Sewing Table Can Save And Create Space

If you are a sewing enthusiast then you understand the importance of having a sewing table that makes your sewing work easy rather than being a hindrance and frustration.

There are a number of designs that you can consider to maximize the available space on your sewing table, including the U shape, L shape, or I shaped sewing tables.

Space in the house is always at a premium. As a lover of sewing, it can feel like a luxury to find enough room to place a sewing table in the corner of the family room, let alone having sufficient space to allocate an entire room for your sewing activities.

If you don’t have the space for a full sewing table in the available space, there are compact tables that you can expand when you need to use them. They easily fold back to around half the size when you are not using them.

If you do not have the financial means to buy the sewing table that you dream of, an innovative idea is to create extra space by using stackable containers or boxes to store supplies, using wall shelves to maximize the space you do have, and place your sewing equipment out of the reach of children.

The ideal is to have a sewing table with ample workspace and storage space.

Sewing requires a lot of sewing supplies and they are always a number of things that you need within arm’s reach.

To maximize the available space on your sewing table you can use things like sewing baskets to organize the sewing supplies and always have it within reach when needed; you can place several sewing books in a small book rack that you use when you create different designs; a finger tip cushion is a must-have; as well as a sewing table caddy where you can place those items that need to be within reach but still out of the way.

If you can afford it, the best idea is to design and have your own custom sewing table manufactured to perfectly fit your particular needs and make the best use of whatever room you have available.

There are many sewing tables on the market that can not only be space savers, but can also create space by incorporating very clever storage ideas that you can either benefit from by buying that particular sewing table or incorporating some of the ideas into your own design.

PMS, What Is It?

Bloating, headaches, crying spells, fatigue, mood swings, cramps and the list goes forever. One minute your eating a piece of pizza and the next your going off the deep end with tears and yelling because you feel bloated and hate the way you look. Each month like clockwork most women come down with a strange collection of symptoms’ which we call PMS.

The male population is quick to just call it “that time of the month.” But in the real world and in a woman’s mind it’s a whole lot more than that.

Today PMS is being recognized as a real medical condition with both physical and psychological symptoms. Premenstrual syndrome is a set of hormonal changes that develop both physical and emotional symptoms in women. The syndrome usually happens 7 to 14 days before the ladies actual “period” and then it completely disappears once her period starts. There is no hard fast rule as to when women suffer from PMS through the years.

95% of women suffer from some of over 150 symptoms directly associated with PMS. Bloating, cramps, breast tenderness and irritability are just a few. The severity of these symptoms can be from very minor to extremely unbearable to the point that it affects every day life. The symptoms can also change from cycle to cycle.

The normal psychological symptoms associated with PMS are mood changes, crying spells, depression, anxiety, anger, sadness and irritability. Of course there are many more and these are just a few.

There are no real tests to diagnose PMS so what doctors do is rule out everything else with the same symptoms to determine that the lady is suffering from PMS. However most women don’t need to see a doctor to diagnose her own PMS.

There are however many psychological conditions that are not associated with PMS. These are eating disorders, alcohol abuse, personality disorders and chronic fatigue syndrome. Oral contraceptive side effects should also be ruled out when considering PMS

PMS has been around a long time but is still one of the most mysterious phenomenons in the medical community. It is always the topic of research and while small things are always been found out about the illness there is still a long way to go.

Skateboarding Video Games - Rainy Day Virtual Reality Living Rooms of The Future

With interactive digital skateboard parks we will also see a whole new wave of digital recordings for skateboard riders. Through CAD/CAM technologies and digital video will come the video material needed for virtual-reality skateboard parks, where the rider stands on a board in his or her living room, which is mounted on a platform in front of a large high-definition flat-panel screen. At first these systems will show up at theme parks and then eventually be incorporated into the lineup of videogames by Sony or Microsoft Corp.

You can expect these virtual-reality living room games to be used by kids during rainy days or inclement weather. As more and more people buy these systems the prices will come down. Currently these technologies are not is expensive as you might think because the skateboard can be mounted to the platform, which will record the speed attained by the foot motion and as the rider leans from side to side that to will be recorded and displayed on the screen.

The Online Think Tank estimates the Virtual Reality/Video Game Immersion Industry to be well worth 5 Billion Dollars by 2012 and grow by over 8-15% per year. Skateboarding or Hover Board type augmented or virtual reality gaming will be a sub-sector of that market, which once introduced will surely grow along with the total market.

Interactive virtual-reality games such as this are good to help a rider practice without getting hurt doing very complex trick maneuvers. It will also keep young riders active during bad weather and give them a workout, meaning that we might prevent onset juvenile diabetes. Not to mention that such a videogame/virtual-reality system will be extremely fun, challenging and exhilarating, especially for grown up kids who cannot perform as well as they once did in their youth. The ‘glory day’ reliving of the Baby Boomers and X’ers childhood will be a percentage of the users.

Professional skateboard riders could sell their best trick performance is to an online trading system such as on eBay, so others might try to match their skill. This would allow riders who spend all their time skateboarding to earn a living for their efforts. It would also be a good way to get additional content for videogames or to be used in Hollywood movies.

Holographic virtual-reality living room gaming is on its way and this will allow a writer to experience a near reality skateboarding session totally immersed in the activity. It will also give the rider confidence in his or her ability to overcome fear, build self-confidence and attain an expert skateboarding level.

Barter - An Introduction to the Oldest Marketing Tool for Business

When you hear the word ‘Barter’ do you instinctively think of two farmers trading a horse for a cow, or the likes of latter-day trappers carrying furs to a trading post to exchange them for food and provisions, or like millions of savvy business owners around the globe, do you think of a high-tech way of marketing your goods and services beyond your usual scope, and becoming more efficient in the process?

It’s strange that during my entire business education at university (and I was fortunate enough to be educated in some of the best business establishments in London, Munich and Florence)not once did the word nor concept of barter ever surface - even in economics. Strange, don’t you think, when barter was the foundation of all modern commerce?

So, how has barter stayed the ‘best kept marketing secret in business’? Simple, it has never been perfected on a larger scale until recently with the advancement of computers. Globally barter accounts for almost $1 trillion in annual business. Little ‘mom and pop’ stores all the way up to Super Power governments barter, some with more success than others. Most recently, in fact, the entire country of Argentina had to utilize the incredible power of barter to pull itself out of bankruptcy, and today over 500,000 companies barter there on a regular basis.

Bartering is a very simple concept: it is the exchange of goods and services for other goods and services. In an ironic manner, workers all over the world barter their time and skills for a salary. As a child, you possibly traded playing cards. It’s all the same concept. BUT, how is this an effective advertising/ marketing tool?

Reciprocal trading, whereby two businesses directly trade with one another (radio advertising for airline tickets, for example) is not as effective as trades that occur through barter exchanges and often create less publicity and marketing opportunities. Utilizing an ethical and trustworthy barter exchange on the other hand can be a very effective means of bartering.

There are more than 1400 barter companies in the US alone, varying wildly in size and scope, and therefore in effectiveness. The two major players in the national barter arena are ITEX (a consortium of smaller barter companies) and Merchants Barter Exchange (one of the only ‘true’ 100% bartering companies in the US). Both companies offer many benefits, some of which are:

+ Greater efficiency (better use of time or inventory)
+ Increase in customers
+ Improved purchasing power
+ Cost-effective exposure to national markets
+ Measurable ROI
+ Word of Mouth Advertising

Since only businesses can be members of barter companies, there is a huge propensity to generate new cash clients that are not business owners. Outside of effective networking groups, like Business Networks International (BNI), barter exchanges are the most effective tool to generate word of mouth advertising and track it.

Barter companies like ITEX (www.itex.com) and Merchants Barter Exchange (www.merchantsbarter.com) act as ‘third party record keepers’ - similar to credit card companies - brokering and tracking the trades between members. In essence each member has a bartering account - just like their bank account - and are allotted barter credits (usually the same value as the currency of the country - but make sure to check before joining, as some exchanges have inflated economies!). Members purchase things they need - printing, cars, advertising, etc. - with credits in their account, similar to writing an IOU, and owe back the amount of those goods and services with their surplus inventory or down time.

Membership fees for such exchanges are very affordable compared with other forms of advertising, usually much less than $1,000 for a one-time set-up charge, and broker commissions are usually levied on purchases only (generally 10% of the total trade). Again, be warned when checking out bona fide companies, as some charge a lower fee, BUT on both the sale and purchase of goods and services.

How to Love Your Employees

Late to work, time wasters, lazy, or simply not showing up at all. As a manager or an employer, these are the issues facing us. Why? In many areas of the United States, the education system is so poorly funded that one teacher can have up to 40 children in the classroom. How many times have you seen someone walking with traffic instead of against it, as is proper. Even college graduates often lack the common sense skills to accomplish what is needed of them in the workplace. With all these challenges, how can we learn to deal with and, better yet, love our employees?

We must do what the social system has not done, equip them with the necessary skills to succeed. This means education. If your employee is willing to spend the time on higher education, why not pay for it. You argue that you can’t afford it. Can you afford stupid employees?

Still, if you are truly strapped for cash, why not teach your own supplementary education programs.

Many logistics companies have in house training programs employees can take advantage of. In my late twenties I learned to drive tractor-trailers, pull double and triple trailers, haul hazardous materials, and become a manager all through these in house programs. Employees need stimulation, and you must provide it for them.

A great way to do this is also through motivational speakers. Many times there are speakers just starting out that are willing to do short hour seminars for very inexpensive in return for the hope of a good reference. Call your local speakers bureau or the chamber of commerce. At least one motivational session per month can do wonders for your employees.

Even better is using good speakers inside your own company to provide presentations. All managers should have the ability to speak before an audience and doing so regularly is great training in itself. You may start them out with 10 to 15 minute presentations highlighting how well the company is doing, how valued the employees are, or how great it is to work at your company.

No one likes a complainer. However, open communication is vital in managing employees successfully. Do you want to find out what everyone is saying behind your back? Don’t be afraid to take a survey with no names attached on your management skills. You may be shocked at the opinions, but instead of being upset, use them to improve your skills and address the pertinent issues on your employee’s minds, whether relevant to you or not.

Of course, we have all had that employee that just won’t show up on time, is always in everyone’s business, or is just downright slow. You can dock their pay, write them up, warn them, or fire them. But there is a secret that is so much easier. Reward them. Yes, that’s right, reward them. Hire your employees at one dollar per hour cheaper than you are willing to pay. At the end of each week, line up all your employees. To those who were on time, didn’t complain, and accomplished their assigned tasks, hand $40. To those who did not, simply say you are sorry, state the reason why they are missing their reward and tell them they can try again the next week.

Once I had an employee who was a hard worker but consistently late. The first week I started this program, I handed everyone a forty dollar check - except him. On the following Monday morning, he was five minutes early. After telling his wife what had happened, she woke him up early, dressed him and personally drove him to work so that he would be on time. Needless to say he was never late again.

Put these suggestions to work and you’ll be loving your employees in no time!

African Canoeing Photography Safari in the Okavango Delta - Botswana

Have you ever wanted to camp in the bush and photograph African wildlife in a vast green and lush landscape of water teaming with all kinds of animals? Then take a canoe safari in the Okavango Delta. Recently, a small group of us went on a canoeing safari to photograph wildlife in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, where some of the greatest variety of wildlife and best-protected delta environments in Africa are located. Often described as “the river which never finds the sea,” the 1300 km long Okavango River forms a massive delta, in northwest Botswana, in Southern Africa. The river eventually disappears into a labyrinth of shallow channels, lagoons and islands, forming lush, swampy wetlands that would cover an area the size of Massachusetts. Having spent the previous two weeks camping in the deserts of Namibia, my partners and I felt that we had found an oasis when we first saw the dazzling green vegetation and the brilliant clear waters of the delta.

On the evening we arrived at our Okavango base camp, we were greeted by a South African named Victor. He was a mirror of this wild world, with a gentle easiness in his movements that seemed to reflect the pace of life around us and red-clay skin that told of much time spent under the African sun. Part of his job was to alert all visitors going out on the Mokoro Trail of the dangerous perils we could encounter.

“There are any number of potentially fatal situations you might find yourself in,” he said, his speech thick with an Afrikaans accent. “You must be vigilant at all times. If elephants come into the camp tonight, which they will, don’t startle them. Leopards too –we just saw one here last night. If you meet one on the trail, just stand still they will get confused and go away. Never, ever run — from any cat. If you run, consider it your last run!”

We listened attentively as he continued with the whole list, which included black mambas, puff adders, hyenas, crocodiles and hippos, the most dangerous animal in all of Africa.

“There is so much life here. Don’t be afraid. Enjoy everything that this place has to offer — there is so much to see and appreciate here. One woman came here and everyday she’d go out looking for lion and everyday she came back disappointed when she didn’t see any. She noticed nothing else. ” He shook his head. “And she left here never seeing a lion — never seeing anything.”

“The way of life here is slow, but it has a very soothing rhythm — something that western societies seem to have lost. Try to fall into this rhythm, to become for a short while totally in tune with nature and its daily ebbs and flows.”

The next day we head out with our guides in the mokoros, which are hand hewn wooden canoes and we drift slowly through the clear delta waters. These wetlands are filled with reed, papyrus and water lilies as well as acacia, leadwood and sausage trees, which are used to carve out the mokoros. The shallow dugout canoes appear precarious, but are amazingly stable and ideally suited to being propelled by a pole through the shallow waters.

Wildebeest and red leechwe keep their eye on our slow progress through the marsh grasses and an Africa fish eagle swoops down from its lofty perch to scan the waters for a meal. A few white egrets and a great blue heron prowl the reeds along the shore as I dip my cup into the fast flowing channel for a sip of the cool clear waters. Victor assured us that the bilharzia-free waters were safe to drink. The waters have been naturally filtered through miles of grasses and reeds and tested many times for bacteria content. He hadn’t heard of anyone ever getting ill from drinking the water.
As the sun grows hot, our guides edge the mokoros onto the grassy bank.

“You swim now,” Gobolya announces.

“Right here?” We ask.

“Yes, here. It’s OK.”

My sweaty companions and I survey the water, each of us wondering who would be the first one in. Though it looked tempting, I recalled the guidebook warnings we had read back at base camp: “Swim only where your guide recommends. Be the last one in and the first one out. If a croc gets you, go for the eyes with your thumbs. And never go anywhere near a hippo. Good luck.” African humor at its best. With no crocs in sight, we took our chances and jumped in. After not having had a shower for two days, the water had a wonderful cleansing effect on us. And the thrill of swimming where danger lurked gave us another tale for fireside reminiscences.

This is a magical place, full of wonderful images of the enchanted waters of glistening blues and shimmering greens and mystical sounds of life drifting through the marsh grasses and the scent of moist earth, wild animals and distant rain.
Go explore the Okavango with all of your senses and you’ll have the experience of a lifetime, as well as innumerable photos as your prize.
