I hope you never put your foot in your mouth and offend someone or a group. But if you do, here are some tips for damage control. These suggestions are for verbal mistakes. A slightly different series of rules apply for written gaffes.

Admit and own up to your mistake. If you said something that you know is wrong, then you should have no problem immediately apologizing. Everyone knows what it’s like to have something come the wrong way and regret it. They’ll likely identify with your situation and cut you some slack. This doesn’t work if you don’t regret your offensive remark. People can pick up on insincerity very easily.

Don’t try to tread water and talk your way out of the situation with excuses. Avoid blaming your audience for not having a sense of humor, the person who made you say the remark, or a dark secret in your past. These are stall tactics by someone who does not want to admit they’re wrong

Set the context. Here you can talk about the circumstances surrounding your insensitive comment but don’t point fingers at anyone. You might say, “I was trying to be clever and obviously I showed bad taste

You could also introduce a more personal element by saying something like, “I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and I didn’t think about what I said.” In this case, you don’t talk much about what’s been on your mind because then you’re putting the blame on a problem (a sick relative, a messy breakup, or out of control kids) instead of accepting responsibility for your remarks.

Move on! Sometimes you can say too much when apologizing. “Some of my best friends are ‘XYZ’,” may be true but it sounds like an excuse.

If your comment was an innocent mistake, treat it like one. Spending too much time talking about it magnifies the issue. Don’t overcompensate by saying that you’ll turn your life upside down to ensure it never happens again. Personal growth is good but keep it private. Otherwise, it sounds like an excuse.

The Berlin Wall, known in the Soviet Union and in the German Democratic Republic as the “Anti-Fascist Protective Rampart,” was a separation barrier between West Berlin and East Germany (the German Democratic Republic), which closed the border between East and West Berlin for 28 years. Construction on the wall began on August 13, 1961, and it was dismantled in the weeks following November 9, 1989. The Berlin Wall was the most prominent part of the inner German border and an iconic symbol of the Cold War.

Conceived by the East German administration of Walter Ulbricht and approved by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, it was built during the post-World War II period of divided Germany, in an effort to stop the drain of labour and economic output associated with the daily migration of huge numbers of professionals and skilled workers from East to West Berlin, and the attendant defections, which hurt the Communist bloc economically and politically.

The Wall was successful at decreasing emigration (escapes - “Republikflucht” in German) from 2.5 million between 1949 and 1962 to 5,000 between 1962 and 1989.[2] However, it was a propaganda disaster for East Germany and the Communist bloc. It became a key symbol of what Western powers regarded as Communist tyranny, particularly after the high-profile shootings of would-be defectors.

Political liberalization in the late 1980s, associated with the decline of the Soviet Union, led East Germany to relax border restrictions, culminating in mass demonstrations and the fall of the East German government.

On November 9, 1989, the government announced that crossing of the border would be permitted. Masses of East Germans approached and then crossed the wall, and were joined by crowds of West Germans in a celebratory atmosphere. Over the next few weeks parts of the wall were chipped away by a euphoric public and by souvenir hunters; it was later removed using industrial equipment.

How can we daily chip away at and break down walls in a post 9/11 era?

1. Refuse to be gripped and governed by fear.
Fear is self-centered revolving around self-preservation. Fear has torment and is paralyzing. Fear is interest paid in advance on something you most likely will never own. It has been said ninety percent of our fears never occur. Therefore the only thing to fear is fear itself. Be bold, courageous, and fearless!

2. Believe the best about people, until they prove otherwise.
People should be innocent until proven guilty. Seek to prove people worthy, rather than looking for guilt. There is good in all of us that needs to be affirmed and recognized. Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future. Before you entertain and listen to the bad about a person, ask to hear about the good.

3. Love and accept people unconditionally.
The Creator and universe loves and accepts us unconditionally as human beings. Do likewise. Create a culture of love and acceptance. As you do a community to which others want to belong will be created. Give people hope to belong, believe, and become.

4. Be hopeful and expect the best from people.
When you show a positive expectation toward people, you cause them to want to live up to your expectations. It is the force of faith in operation pulling people higher. Speak to and address people’s potential. Enlarge their vision and horizon paving the way for them to step into it.

5. Don’t be paralyzed by presumption and erroneous predispositions.
Beware of propaganda. Don’t believe everything the media and people tell you. Most often they are misinformed or only partially telling the entire story. Do your homework before wholly embracing something as gospel truth.

6. Investigate and seek the truth.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Not everything you hear is worth listening to. Truth must be tested and examined over time. Lies last but for a moment. The truth however is timeless and always does endure. Hold to the truth and don’t sell out to compromise.

7. Celebrate and honor all peoples.
As you live and let live, you shall liberate people. Celebrating and honoring people is the first way we bond with them. Before we can together build, we must first bond. Let the bonds of brotherhood grow, increase, and be strengthened.

8. Forgive and live.
We all make mistakes. Give people another chance. We as individuals and nations learn over time. For some it takes more time than for others to catch on. As we forgive, we free ourselves from carrying hostility and hate within our hearts. When we forgive we live and allow others to do the same.

9. Be patient, peaceful, and progressive.
Change doesn’t happen overnight. It is progressive and ongoing. Strive to be patient with people and nations as we all evolve. People make changes in an atmosphere of love. Russia’s Gorbachev brought down the wall because of President Reagan’s charm and heartfelt appeal. Reagan never threatened Gorbachev with war if he didn’t obey.

Love is patient and kind. Patience and a peaceful disposition often precedes progress. Nobody likes to be pushed. Patience tenderly and purposefully pulls people by their heart strings forward progressively.

10. Let dialogue and diplomacy replace hostility.
National dictators often just want to be recognized on the global scene and acknowledged. By welcoming everyone to the table to talk, we can diffuse much hostility and build bridges internationally. Nobody every died during a discussion. Dialogue and diplomacy enables us to go deeper to the real root issue motivating a person.

Let us all continue to break down walls between us so we can be a global community interconnected with heartfelt understanding and compassion.

Injury prevention is a very important component in youth soccer coaching. The coaches must understand the famous saying as it goes that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The coaches have to use every possible way to prevent injuries. For this, they must take certain steps. For example, they must have their focus on proper skill development. What is more, before you start the training session, you must inspect the entire field in order to make sure that there are no holes, sprinkler heads, etc.

It is very important for the coaches to have a well thought out plan regarding how they have to deal with the injuries. There must also be a written response plan for emergencies that include the following points.

• Make sure that a first aid kit is available.

• Do not forget to collect the medical consent forms from all the players.

• Have emergency contacts all the times.

• You must have access to phone.

• It is always a great idea to have an assistant that is knowledgeable regarding the first aid.

Well, you cannot prevent injuries completely from occurring. It is not in your hand, but there are certain steps that you can take in order to reduce the injury risks. Incorporate the following things with the training session and it will possibly keep your players away from injuries.

• Make sure that you incorporate a conditioning program with every training session. The conditioning program should focus on building muscle strength for the young players.

• Stretching exercises are also very important. Therefore, you must have your players do some stretching exercises on a daily basis.

• You must instruct your players that all of them have to wear properly fitting shoes.

• Suggest a well-balanced diet to the young players, which could nourish their muscles.

• Whether it is a practice session or a game, you must have your players go for a warm up session.

Always remember that your task as an expert coach also includes recognizing an injury when it happens, stabilizing the same as best you can, and summoning medical assistance if required. When it comes to youth soccer coaching, it is very crucial for the coaches be well prepared beforehand for any emergencies as and when it appears.

The room is light. The dogs are on the bed licking my wife and I in the face. It is time to get up they are saying in non-verbal dog talk. My mind immediately turns the channel to all things negative. Damn dogs why don’t they get down. Why doesn’t my wife get up and take them out. She expects me to do it all. I can’t believe she just lays there and ignores them. Yeah, she is waiting for me to do it. I don’t want to get up. How dare her. My mind just keeps right on complicating matters and finally I get up angry. Take the blasted dogs out, mumbling the old time, blaming my wife for my inconvenience. Yet the truth is I normally get up every morning and take the dogs out. Let me tell you something, I can complicate the heck out of almost anything in life. The simple act of getting up in the morning can become so dang complicated. When the truth is all I have to do is get out of myself and do what I am suppose to do.

Do you remember the saying or have you ever heard the saying KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID? I don’t like the stupid part so I replace it with sweetie. Anyways, it is so true. If I would just keep life simple I would be in a much better space. Yet, something inside of me loves to just make things harder than they are. Like talking to God or like turning my will over to my creator, I want to split hairs and try to figure out what God is and where God is and all the other trivial stuff involving my relationship with God.

Why in the world would I want to complicate matters when life is hard with out all the crud?

I think I complicate matters in order to avoid the simple fact I am nothing with out God’s help. I can’t, He can so I think I am going to let him control my life today. Now that’s simple and today I think I will just take the simple path and live a little bit of life on life’s terms and not complicate matters. I am going to keep life simple. Amen.

What do you give the woman expecting her second child?

She got all the baby gear with her first child. She has maternity clothes and doesn’t need a book to tell her how to diaper an infant. Indeed, it’s hard to think of anything she needs at all.

By considering this mom’s future needs, however, you can find a unique baby gift for a second-child present or shower. The following items are sure to please:

*A double stroller. If the expectant mother has a toddler, she’ll need a double stroller. Let her pick it out as features vary. Strollers with back-to-front seats are easier to get through doors than those with side-to-side seating. It should be light enough for her to heave into the trunk.

*Picture frames. Skip the second-baby scrapbook. Mom will only feel guilty when she fails to complete it. Buy a beautiful frame for the new baby’s photo instead. The mother of two can never have too many frames.

*A small gadget. The most unique baby gifts for the second child are little gizmos that can fit in a crammed diaper bag and bring order to chaos. A Palm organizer or an iPod voice recorder makes a great present.

*A bathrobe. A pretty robe will fit, no matter how big your expectant mom gets, and make her feel like the Queen of Sheba even when the house is messy. Her current robe is likely stained with Play-Doh and needs replacing.

*A tote. The mother of two schleps tons of stuff. Buy a bag with large side pockets so she can find the sippy cups before the stoplight changes. The handles should go over the shoulder, leaving her hands free.
