The Most Important Thing a Parent Can Do If Their Child Has ADD

You’re a parent, and you love your child. But you’ve been tearing your hair out trying to figure out why your child is acting the way they do. They won’t pay attention to what you say. They won’t pay attention to what the teacher says. They are disruptive everywhere they go, or they just seem to be constantly zoning out. You can tell them to do something, and they’ll say “OK!” five times, but they never seem to actually get into gear to do it. The one thing that they seem an expert at is watching TV or playing video games.

So you took then to a doctor, either through frustration, or because someone said you should, and he referred you to a specialist, who tested your child. And now you have the lovely diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and maybe a prescription for some drugs. But you have no idea what to do from here.

So, problem solved, right?

Unfortunately, for most children, that’s not the case. People with true cases of ADD have an altered brain chemistry, and an altered brain functioning. Some drugs will help to normalize that, but it is rarely a cure-all. Most people who are both successful and have ADD have either trained themselves, or been trained by others in how to partially compensate for and work with their non-normal brain functioning. Additionally, a host of other learning defects will often (but not always) accompany ADD. These may include, dyslexia, dysgraphia, hand-eye coordination issues, and others. Add to all of this the feelings of guilt, shame, and being “less than” that come from everyone being frustrated at you, and at your frustration at yourself, and you have a powerful combination for setting someone on the track to fail in life. (Many people with moderate to severe cases of ADD end up in prison.)

When I was diagnosed with ADD, my parents had several choices. They could have ignored the problem, and attempted to pretend that they had a normal boy who was choosing to be bad. They could have clamped down on me harder, and attempted to make me normal through sheer willpower. They could have thrown me at a psychiatrist and washed their hands of it. They could have treated me as a cripple and thrown pity at me. Instead, they did the best thing that they possibly could have for me.

They fought for me.

Once my parents learned what was wrong, they changed from my accusers to my advocates overnight. They actively learned about my ADD. They found people who could teach me the skills to help compensate for my altered brain functioning. They found people who could teach me how to study more effectively, and who could use motor training to help me with the hand eye coordination issue that made it very hard for me to write. They worked with the schools to both keep me from drowning, and to keep me challenged. (Because of their work with the schools, I was in both remedial and gifted programs at the same time.) And they got me help in learning how to leverage my strengths.

But most of all, they supported me emotionally. And I can positively say that this was one of the most important turning points in my life. Because of their help, and because I had parents who believed in me, I was able to battle through every other person and teacher who constantly told me I as lazy and would never amount to anything. Without their help, I might never have made it. There is a good chance that I would have given up.

Today, I have a degree in Economics from TCU. I have worked in the tech industry on million dollar pieces of equipment, and served in network operations over a network that spans the globe. I have a lovely wife and daughter. While I was never a straight A student, I have several impressive academic awards and an SAT score that would get me automatic admission to MENSA. And I owe all of it, at least in part, to my parents taking up the role of being an advocate.

At this point, your son or daughter is probably at their wit’s end. Believe it or not, they really do want you to respect them, love them, and be proud of them. But they seem to be constantly failing you, and everyone else around them, and they can’t understand why.

Now is the time to sit down with them and have one of the most important discussions of their lives. Make sure that you’re ready for this, before you do it, because it will require a lot of time, effort, and sacrifice on your part to keep these promises.

Let them know that you’ve been frustrated with them, but that you didn’t know what the problem was, and you do now. Let them know that the road ahead will be hard, and that they will have to work harder than those around them to get to where they need to go. Let them know that you will do everything that you can to get them what they need, but you expect them to fight for their lives as well. Let them know that ADD doesn’t mean that you get a free ride, it means that you have to fight harder than everyone else to get what you want out of life, and that you will be with them in that fight.

But most of all, let them know that they are not bad, are not lazy, are not just “not trying”, and that you love them.

For a person with ADD, the mantra of their life is often, “Try harder.” The fight that a person with ADD has is with themselves, and it’s constant. It’s easy to just give up. That’s why it’s so important that you child knows that you’re with them in that fight.

Garlic - It’s a herbal wonder worker. One if it’s most important uses in the anti-aging process is its ability to help manage high cholesterol. It has powerful antioxidants that protect the body from “free radicals”.

Berries - Blueberries have the highest level of antioxidants, also known as anthocyanins, than any other food. It has long been know that blueberries along with cranberries will help ward off urinary tract infections. One study has shown that elderly people who eat strawberries has the lowest rate of cancer. Carrots - Our mothers were right. Beta carotene derived from carrots, its main antioxidant, is a full of potential for fighting aging and other diseases. A medium carrot full of beta carotene has been shown to cut the risk of lung cancer in half, even among people who used to smoke. Low levels of beta carotene in your system can lead to heart attacks, different kinds of cancer and are more likely to die or be disabled by strokes. It’s long been known for its protection from eye diseases that come with aging. The orange pigment in carrots boosts immune systems. A cup of carrot juice contains a whopping 24 milligrams of beta carotene.

Fruits With Citrus - Oranges are the complete all in one fighter of anti cancer inhibitors that include carotenoids, flavonoids and Vitamin C. Grapefruit fiber reduces cholesterol dramatically and has been shown to reverse the aging disease of artherosclerosis. High in gluthionite fights off free radical damage to cells that cause aging.

Grapes - Grapes have over twenty known antioxidants that fend off oxygen free radical attacks that protect us from disease and aging. The largest amounts of antioxidants are in the seeds and the skin. The more color in the skin the greater the antioxidant properties. Red and purple grapes are the most powerful. Antioxidants from grapes inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol and cause blood vessels to relax.

Raisins - Also know as dried grapes actually have higher concentrations of anti-aging components, more so than grapes. Raisins have three times more antioxidants than a glass of white wine but only 1/2 of the antioxidants found in a glass of red wine.

Onions - Like garlic onions also have many anti-aging properties. They are full of anti-oxidants that help prevent cancer, most notable stomach cancer. They thin the blood, discouraging clots, and raise the levels of quercetin, inhibit enzymes that fight cancer, have anti-inflammatory properties, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. Quercetin lowers bad LDL cholesterol from becoming toxic and clogging arteries.

Spinach - Chock full of anti-oxidants it’s easy to understand why studies show that it wards off a wide variety of free radical diseases such as heart disease, cancer strokes, high blood pressure muscular degeneration, cataracts as well as psychiatric problems. Lutein an anti-oxidant that’s as strong as beta carotene is also a proponent of spinach. Consuming large amounts of spinach reduces the risk of macular degeneration which is a potential cause of blindness in the elderly. Eating 1/2 cup of spinach a day may slash lung cancer odds in half. Rich in folic acid, spinach is a brain and artery protector.

Tomatoes - Tomatoes are one of the richest and most reliable source of Iycopene, a remarkable anti-oxidant. It is a more adapt antioxidant for killing specific free radicals. More effective than beta carotene. New research show that Iycopene preserves physical and mental functioning among seniors. High blood levels of Iycopene are shown to reduce risk of pancreatic and cervical cancer. Cancer causing nitrosamines are suppressed by tomatoes. The only other vegetable that contains large has high amounts of Iycopene is watermelon. Cooking does not lower Iycopene levels at all. This means that even tomato sauces are also anti-aging.

The Method of Photoreading

The adverts for photoreading claim that you can read 25,000 words a minute. Is this fact or fiction?

The method of photoreading is quite simple:

  • Pick a book that you want to photoread
  • Read the cover to double check that the book is relevant to you
  • If it’s information that’s likely to go out of date, check the copyright date
  • Preview the chapter headings
  • Get into the right “state” to photoread
  • Flip through the pages at the rate of about one page per second

Of course, you’ll need to practice. Getting into the right state was probably the hardest part that I found. But after a few trials, and once I’d got over the worry of getting it right first time, that wasn’t too difficult.

Testing whether photoreading works isn’t as easy. To all intents and purposes, everyone is unique. So you can’t have a “control” version of yourself to test against the regular you. Doing a scientific double blind test isn’t possible either - you’ve either photo read the book or you haven’t.

So deciding whether or not photoreading works is a belief state. At the end of the day, you either believe it works or you don’t. When I first photoread, I chose a dictionary and my method of testing was crossword puzzles. The kind where you’re given a one word clue. Subjectively, I thought that my speed of completing crosswords increased. So my view is that photoreading works.

You can learn photoreading from a book but my preferred method is to use an audio course as I can follow along with the course rather than getting distracted part way by having to refer back to somewhere else in the book.

Credit Card Debt with Large Minimum Payments - Consolidate Bills and Make Them Manageable

Many Americans have fallen into the credit trap and it is very difficult to get out. Many people have multiple credit cards and succumb to the temptation of spending more than they can afford to payback. Even with multiple jobs is it not hard for your monthly payments to exceed your monthly income. Without a way out of the trap you will sink deeper and deeper. A great way to end the cycle is to consolidate bills into one monthly payment. While you might assume that having one monthly payment to pay off will mean lower monthly payments but higher interest, in reality you can have your cake and eat it to. It is not only possible, but probable for a debt consolidation loan to offer a lower total interest than the bills you were paying. This means you can meet your monthly payments and lose less money to interest as well.

When you consolidate bills, the following is what happens. Your new lender pays off all of your debt, thus ending the interest on those debts and stopping all of the harassing calls you probably get. Then you pay your new lender each month instead of all of your previous lenders. Since the new lender picks up a steady consolidated payment each month, they do not have to charge you as much interest. Yes, this helps you out by lowing the amount you have to pay each month and lose in interest, but it also provides a monthly payment for them that is higher than most lenders see. They get from you not only what you owed a certain single lender, but all of them put together. So a debt consolidation loan works both ways. It helps your new lender, and so the new lender helps you as well.

If you cannot pay your debts each month even though you are working as many hours as you can, then a debt consolidation loan is probably your best option. However, you have many different debt consolidation loans to choose from. If you own a home than it is usually best to use your home equity to consolidate bills. The interest rates on a home equity loan are usually the lowest of all of your options because your home provides security to the lender. Home equity lines of credit can also be used if you’d like to consolidate bills and have a line of credit open to you to cover any upcoming expected expenses, or unexpected expenses. If you do not own a home or your home does not have enough equity for a home equity loan, then you can use a personal loan to consolidate bills. Your interest rate depends on your credit score and income. As long as you have enough income to show that you can pay the monthly payment consistently, then a personal loan is usually not too hard to get, even with a bad credit score.

You can also use a credit card to consolidate your other credit card debts. Credit cards often have a very low monthly payment, which is what makes them attractive to people seeking to consolidate bills, but credit cards can cause your problems to get worse. That low monthly payment makes it easy to simply pay the minimum each month, just because you can. The problem with that is that progress towards paying off your debts will be very slow and the amount of money you lose to interest will be very high. You can also reuse the money that you pay to the credit card company, which requires a lot of self-control not to use. So using a credit card to consolidate bills can hurt you more than it helps you, especially if lack of self-control is what got you into debt in the first place.

No matter which type of loan you decide is best for you, it is very important to shop around for the best rates and lowest monthly payments. You should consider which is more important to you as some lenders will offer a lower monthly payment but a higher interest rate. You have to be aware that while a lower monthly payment may look good right now, the higher interest rate means you will pay more in the long run. With some footwork and time on the phone you can find the best lender in your area and obtain the best combination of monthly payment and interest rate for your needs.

If you decide to consolidate bills, do not think that you are out of the water yet. Managing your debt takes focus and self-control. If you fail to pay your debt consolidation loan, getting yourself out of debt will be extremely hard. A debt consolidation loan is a great tool for getting out of debt, but it is not a free pass and you should think of it as your last reliable chance.

Finding Your Best Hairstyle

We see them everywhere; on TV, on magazine covers while we wait in shopping lines, and sometimes,on occasion, on a friend or a stranger. Just seeing a great hairstyle and falling in love with it is only the bare beginnings of creating a whole new you. Before sitting in your stylist’s chair and expecting miracles from him or her, let’s discuss what you need to take into consideration before those scissors touch a single strand.

First of all, consider your lifestyle. Do you work indoors in an office all day? You can afford to spend the extra time on your look should you desire since there should be nothing working against your hair such as wind or rain. Or are you out in the elements? Perhaps you go to the gym after work and need a style that dries by itself and yet still looks presentable? A precision cut or permanent wave may suit this type as they both would dry stylishly on their own. Longer hair of course should be clipped up in the wind to protect its health as well as its beauty.

Secondly, how much time do you really have to spend in the morning to create your fabulous look on a daily basis. Not how much time you’d like to spend or think you will, yet the harsh reality of how many actual minutes on the ticking clock do you have before you really need to hit the road to work or school? An everyday look should fit into your routine.

Should you only need a few, quick curls, then plugging in the old curling iron every morning will become second nature having it ready for a couple of quick applications. Do you shower in the morning and would rather have a cut that you can just blow dry or flatiron and have it lay right in place? Your style will demand more trips to the salon for trims as any style that has that precision cut to keep it low-maintenance will have to have the style kept “in shape”. And this doesn’t necessarily mean a short haircut as medium length styles can have blunt lines or textured ends to speed up the styling process having them styled straight or perhaps in a little “flip”.

Have a little more time to spend on your do? Perhaps you would like a little more body or curl. Large, loose curls are are the rage now, ranging from gigantic 3-5 vertical curls that are left undisturbed to fall freely during the day to the more time-consuming S-waves. Should you prefer the latter on a regular basis, you should consider a design-wrap perm to lock these defined patterns in and cut your styling time way down. This will be less damaging to your hair in the long run as you won’t be applying the direct heat from appliances on a daily basis.

So now you have an idea of time and environment. The next step is the hardest. Your head and facial shapes, as well as your neck structure are all very important things to consider in determining how well you might carry off that cute style you just saw. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a perfect oval face, a well defined jawline, a sleek neck of average length, all of which are well-balanced enabling you to wear short, medium or long styles of any type, you need to face the facts that you probably cannot wear just any hairstyle that you fall in love with.

Brush all your hair back off of your face, clip it or place a headband. What do you see? An oval, a square shape? Heart? Is it oblong? Or Diamond shaped?

Square, Heart and Oblong shapes usually tend to have “high foreheads”. These require a part close to the center that allows hair to fall along the temples and covers up the majority of the forehead. Though the best remedy for this situation are bangs, or as they call them abroad, fringe. Bangs cover or break up areas that we would prefer to disguise.

Diamond and Heart shaped faces have very narrow chins and styles that hit about the jawline is best to help “fill in” this weak area. Or a longer style could be worn with layering in this area that may be textured with curls which would also serve the same purpose. However, Square and Oblong shapes have thick, wide jawlines and it’s best to draw attention away from this area. These face shapes should not have a hairstyle that widens this area further. Hair should be flat (straight) against the sides of their chins or at least much longer or shorter to draw attention up or down away from the chin or jawline. Remember this can apply to anyone with a double chin or thick throat area as well.

These same rules apply to the top of the face. A short forehead, one who has a hairline that comes down close to the eyebrows, also needs camouflaging. Bangs are an option here. Diamond, Square and Oblong shapes do not want hairstyles that comb back to expose these flaws. It’s best to allow hair to fall on the forehead somehow to disguise your less than perfect hairline.

A Diamond or Oblong shaped face needs to be very careful to avoid hairstyles with fullness across the nose and eye level as these styles will only make their face shape appear wider here. Neck length can appear shorter or longer according to your needs, depending on your style and its length. This physical characteristic is often overlooked.

Now to discuss your hair color. Yes, it’s something you really need to consider as it can make or break any hairstyle. You can have the best haircut in the world for you, however, if the color is all wrong, it ruins the whole look. For those of you, who already color their hair or are considering it, know these important factors. Black and very dark shades are not just for the young-at-heart, they are for the younger and younger looking crowd only. These unforgiving colors will only harshen the features of anyone who has found themselves with fine lines and wrinkles. Very fair, porcelain skin should steer clear of very light shades as this usually washes them out.

Determine if you are a warm or a cool color person. Yes, it’s something else to think about, yet it is a good thing to know not just for hair color, yet for makeup color and clothing colors as well. While some folks are lucky enough to wear either one, some look only good in one or the other.

Look good in pinks, blues, or violets? These make you a “cool color person”. Only look good in warm colors? Then you usually select reds, oranges, or yellows. Green is a neutral shade and some colors steer away from their usual temperature. For example, red can be cool if it has purple undertones like say a burgundy and yet it can be quite warm if it has more of an orange cast to it.

Why is all of this important?

Well, if you are a cool color person, you cannot wear true reds or an auburn hair color unfortunately. Ever see a redhead wearing purple clothes? This is an extreme example, yet I think you get the picture. Likewise if you only look good in warm colors, anything violet, blue or possessing a blue cast would be out of the question.

Yes, there IS a lot to consider when you are talking beauty and fashion. However, once you sift through all the determining factors and find what really works best for you, you’ll learn to really spot a great haircut or style that would be perfect for you instantaneously. And shopping for clothes and makeup will become much easier and fun!

Spare yourself the heartache of crying yourself to sleep knowing your hair will take forever to grow out from a bad style. Find a stylist who will really, truly listen and who has this knowledge and then some. ALWAYS take pictures with you when you want to make a hairstyle change. Not only will you know both of you are on the same page about your looks, you will reap the rewards of all your homework and knowledge. And feeling better about yourself can only lead to more confidence and a better outlook on life in general.

What I really enjoy in a meal is the dessert.
A coup of vanilla ice cream with strawberries, hot apple pie, chocolate.
I bet you feel already hungry.
But wait before you start running to the fridge to get yourself a fat dessert keep this in mind.
A lot of desserts such as pie, cake , ice cream contain a lot of calories and you need to burn all these calories to lose weight
If you have eaten a two bolls ice cream it will take you thirty minutes walking to burn these calories, is this really word the effort
What you must do is eating low fat desserts, if you are overweighted you can still enjoy desserts but you need to know which dessert you can eat.

Delicious low fat desserts

- Fruit: Fruit is not only nice it is very healthy as well.
Whether you’re trying to lose weight or not you have to eat at least 5 kinds of fruit in a day.
One of my favourite desserts is a fruit salad with apples, mangoes, pineapple, oranges, cherries and pears. To make the dessert more attractive you can put the orange juice on your fruit salad. This is by far the healthiest low fat dessert you will find. I think you will agree with me if I say that this tip is not useful if you add cream or sugar on your fruit.

- Yoghurt: Every day I eat five hundred grams of yoghurt. And why not if you choose a low fat yoghurt it can’t hurt you. In your store you can find naturally yoghurts or mixed up with fruit.

- Dark chocolate: Eating chocolate is almost the same as having sex. You don’t to have ban chocolate in your life but change the milk chocolate into dark chocolate. It tastes a little bit bitter but you will enjoy it. Normal chocolate contains a lot milk, calories, dangerous fore someone trying to lose weight.
Dark chocolate has a lot of anti-oxidants and contains less fat then the other chocolates.
The best chocolate can be found in Belgium and Switzerland.

- Nuts: When I was a child and it was autumn we were very busy with looking for nuts

It is not a good idea to eat a lot of nuts as they are high in fat and in calories especially coconuts. But a study has found out that eating one and a half oz of nuts in a diet can reduce the risk heart disease.

Truth about the “Home Equity Loan”

Everyone in America hears on commercials from Major banks like countrywide and ameriquest mortgage about their unbelievable No Closing Cost Home Equity Loan. These Home Equity Loan are made to appear the solution to your financial troubles and situation.

These banks and Lenders make it appear that everyone who applies get APPROVED and life is great once you close your Home Equity Loan. BUT my readers the reality of this far from the truth. These Home Equity Loan products, are sold at rates well above the standard Mortgage Refinancing and Purchase loans.

The standard Prime Mortgage Refinancing and Purchase rate falls between 5.8%-6.5% based on a number of factors which include your FICO score, the amount of debt you have, recent inquiries, and your balances on open line, and how old your lines are.

BUT, Home Equity Loan products are lent out at rates which start at 8% and I have seen Home Equity Loan rates go as high as 18-22%. It is like financing your debt on a BAD credit card with a high APR.

Now, I am NOT saying that all Home Equity Loan products are bad or that getting a Home Equity Line of Credit is a bad thing or a mistake. It all depends on the situation. Most people finance important things in their life such as education, weddings, consolidating debt, medical bills and paying off high interest credit cards.

But there are always those who like to use their Home Equity Loan to buy jewelry, furniture, cars, and other junk that will get them into trouble because those investments only have a diminishing return.

So be safe and only get a Home Equity Loan or Home Equity Line of Credit, if you can repay it back in a timely manner, or what you are buying has a good return on your investment.

Debt Consolidation Loan - Make Sure You Look For A Reputable Lender

A debt consolidation loan can certainly stop financial bloodshed and give you time to recover and regain your financial health, however, the key to successful debt consolidation is finding the best loan for your needs. It is therefore important to borrow from a reputable lender who has a track record of providing solutions to debt related problems.

People are being stressed by high debt as never before. Many are juggling monthly payments of such high amounts that there’s not enough left over for normal living expenses. If you are in these highly stressed circumstances you are probably so busy trying to keep things going and find the money for the payments every month, let alone for everything else, that you haven’t looked at the option of taking out a debt consolidation loan.

A debt consolidation loan can reduce your monthly expenditure to free up income for family and personal needs. It can alleviate your stress immediately so if you are suffering from debt related stress you should really not delay taking action any longer.

The best debt consolidation loan for you will have the lowest interest and lowest charges available to you. This is why choosing a reputable lender who has a history of helping people reorganize loans in order to better manage debt, is so important. You must be absolutely guaranteed that the interest rate, fees and charges will remain low if a debt consolidation loan is to be the key to financial freedom that it should be.

There are many types of debt consolidation loans. If you have equity in your home, a home equity loan will likely offer the best interest rate and lowest fees and charges. However, there is a risk. A home equity loan uses your home as collateral for the loan. If you don’t pay your payments by the due date you can lose your home. If this isn’t a problem for you, then if you have enough equity in your home, this option can provide you with the greatest short term and long term financial benefits. If you don’t have home equity or do not wish to put up your home as collateral, an unsecured personal loan is another good option. Many unsecured personal loans offer excellent interest rates and competitive fees and charges all without any risk to your assets.

A good lender or debt advisory service will help you choose the best debt consolidation loan for your needs, that’s why it is so important to find a well respected lender. Once you have consolidated your debt, it is important to stay on track financially. Creating a long term financial plan as well as an ongoing budget can support your decision to live within your means and get your debt under control. Plan to be out of debt completely by a certain date and to have savings and investments instead. If you do these things, combining your debts into one debt consolidation loan can be your first step to financial freedom and success.

Diet Weight Loss Myths

Todays market is saturated with hundreds of weight loss products that promise you quick weight loss without a change in your diet. These programs and products are ineffective and have huge promises with no back up material to support them. Thus thousands of people are spending thousands of dollars on products that may never help them. The weight loss market is a multi-billion-dollar market in the United States. New products are put on the market each and every day without any support or control and people purchase them.

There are many effective and safe diets and diet products on the market today which have sufficient backup and testing to show they are working and safe. There are many myths and falsehoods in the diet market today. Let’s look at some of these.

1.-If I eat less I will lose more weight. False. If you significantly decrease the intake of nutrients into your body it will go into a starvation mode. In the starvation mode your body begins to conserve fat and calories so it can survive a long period without intake. It will begin consuming the muscle mass you have and thus you will still have the fat when you are finished with the diet.

2.-Your diet must be strict and harsh to work. False. You can lose weight by eating well if you watch what you eat. You need not starve yourself nor eat a lot of strange foods. You need to watch your portions and your calorie intake. There are many foods such as fruits and vegetables which are lower in calories and can actually help you lose weight. If your diet is extreme you will more than likely not stick with it and then it will be of no avail to you. So try to use sensible diet and exercise to lose weight. This keeps your metabolism up and you will get better results.

3.-You can continue to eat whatever you want and lose weight. False. You are not losing weight now eating what you want so why would you think you could continue this and lose weight? Weight loss requires changes in your lifestyle. You must increase your exercise and decrease your calorie intake. I am not talking about a backbreaking weight workout at the gym. Get off the couch and go for a walk. Walking is one of the most effective exercises for losing weight. It also gets you out of the house into the fresh air.

So as you start trying to lose weight you should really look at the facts and try to find a diet or supplement that has substantiated proof that it works. Talk to someone who has used it successfully and use your common sense. You can lose weigh and do it safely and efficiently if you work at it.
