Thoughts To Ponder - #114

James Twyman is one of the world’s leaders in bringing peace to the earth. Twyman received his Bachelors degree from Loyola University in 1984, and a Doctorate in ministry from Agape Seminary in 1997. He has written five books, Emissary of Light”, “Emissary of Love - The Psychic Children Speak to the World”, “Proposing Tree: A Love Story”, and “Prayer of St. Francis.” One role James has played since the beginning, the role he considers to be his central and most important character: The Peace Troubadour.

“A mode of prayer existed which was lost to our Western culture about 1700 years ago. “This form of prayer requires a feeling element-you feel that what you want has already occurred.”

“When we ask for something to happen, the attention is on the fact that we don’t have it now. But when we feel that it has already occurred, then we put out an energy that actually draws that reality to us. Gratitude is a key element. It is very important to be grateful.”

“It was when I stopped focusing on myself and began to reach out that I rediscovered that spiritual part of me.”

“The Emissaries nurture that inner part of us until the time when we would be able to spring from that same place. At that time, they would no longer be needed as a physical anchor point, because each one of us would become that anchor point, giving that same light to each other.”

“The Emissaries want to give to the world is that this is the time we’ve been waiting for-”We’re ready.” We’re ready to transform the world into a world based upon the laws of love rather than the rules of fear.”

“There is a quantum leap that’s about to take place, and we’re ready to take that leap. When that happens, the world will transform by itself, simply because we will have transformed our minds about the world.”

Ecommerce – Delayed Gratification

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last, Well, neither does bathing - that’s why we recommend it daily.” - Zig Ziglar

Humanity desires acknowledgement and we’re not used to delayed gratification. We want what we want - and we want it right now.

There is an unfair proposition in online marketing. This inequality can be found in list building, blogging, site promotion and virtually every other area of establishing a web presence.

For the site owner there is no such thing as instant gratification. You will not likely receive the feedback you’re hoping for and it can seem as if you are improving your web presence for only one person and frankly you’re getting tired of impressing yourself.

Sometimes it can seem like establishing your ecommerce is a bit like being asked to fill the Grand Canyon with a teaspoon. You keep at it, but it’s hard to see the results.

The good news is while you keep working to establish your web presence you are finding better ways to say things, better content to present while the rough edges are smoothed out. Hopefully all this happens during a weak moment when you consider a long-term career in the corrugated cardboard industry.

Ecommerce is a thankless job that is best suited for individuals that understand the virtue of patience and are willing to work to envision a future when the present doesn’t look so great.

“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable pre-requisite for success” - Brian Tracy

We live in a time when immediacy is so important to so many that a significant number of businesses come and go because the owner failed to understand that delayed gratification is the payoff for perseverance and patience.

In 2006 there were 671,800 new businesses and 544,800 business closures according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

It is easy to surmise that many of these businesses didn’t have a clear understanding of the long-term trench warfare that comes with the territory of business startup.

This article is actually designed to encourage you to think long-term. Your ability to look further ahead than the next sale is going to be important if you want to succeed.

Ecommerce can provide a significantly improved market for your products, but you must continue to do the hard work of putting your best face forward even when your site statistics may seem as if your performing to an empty concert hall.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” - Winston Churchill

PPC - The Moderation Key

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is often viewed as a quick way to get traffic to your website. After all, the advertising itself is just a few words so it shouldn’t take too long to put it together, get it online and wait for the customers to be delivered to your website on a silver platter. Right?

Maybe not.

Many businesses use most of the words available in their word count to place the name of their business and they don’t take advantage of researched keywords. PPC advertisers could be paying more money for their ads then they need to because they haven’t investigated less popular keywords that are just as effective and provide a similar return on investment (ROI).

In most cases you can even take advantage of a negative keyword. What this means is if you have a company that sells a variety of nuts, you might consider placing a ‘- cashews’ if you don’t actually sell cashews. Essentially this eliminates the PPC advertising to show up on any sites that feature cashews.

If you fail to use the negative words effectively you could have a significant number of cashew fans clicking on your ‘nut’ advertising only to be disappointed that you don’t carry their favorite. The end result is that you had to pay for clicks made by potential customers who found themselves disappointed.

You should also err conservatively on the cost of attracting new customers on your ROI estimate. Don’t bid higher on PPC advertising, on an overall basis, when it seems you are not likely to gain a return on your advertising investment.

You should also take your time in the development of the language for your PPC advertisement as well as effective using both positive and negative keywords. You should keep in mind that PPC advertising should be viewed as a short-term solution to your long-range objectives.

By utilizing strong search engine optimization (SEO) strategies you are likely to see much better site visitation and a more motivated customer base. The reason for this is that when you improve your SEO strategy you also tend to improve your site ranking. Most people use search engines to locate the products they want. If they can find your site easily in a web search why would they need to pay attention to peripheral PPC advertising?

PPC advertising can be effective, but the need for this type of advertising should be short-term and used in moderation.

Internet Marketing - EDD Discovered - The Real Reason Most People are Not Successful on the Internet

Internet marketing, to be successful, requires sustained attention and focus.

And right there in my words above, is the main reason that many people are not successful on the internet.

Here’s how it happens

You are a creative person. You have a good idea. You see all the possibilities. You get to work on it. Another good idea comes across your email inbox. You drop everything and pursue that “good idea.”

Rinse and repeat.

I see this happen everyday with my mentees and students.

Do you have EDD? So what is EDD you may be asking?

EDD is a special form of Attention Deficit Disorder that you can find in many online entrepreneurs. I call it Entrepreneurial Attention Deficit Disorder.

Thus, EDD.

The internet is set up in a way that makes this an easy “disorder” to acquire. Things are constantly changing and there are tons of distraction.

The cure for EDD Would you like to get past your EDD and actually accomplish something?

Picture a round clock face, with the numbers starting at 12 and going all the way around to come back to 12.

The area in the first half of the clock, from 12 - 6, is where most creative people are excellent.

You get a great idea. You get excited about the great idea. You talk about the idea and think of all the things you could do, all the ways you could use the great idea, etc. etc. This process takes you from 12 - 6.

Then you get another great idea, run back up to 12, and then do the 12 - 6 cycle again.

In order to be successful, you need to become just as skilled and familiar with the 6 - 12 side of the clock as you are with the 12 - 6 side of the clock.

The 6 -12 side of the clock involves creating an implementation plan, and then taking action on each one of the implementation steps.

This will take you full circle, back up to 12, which is called “money in your bank account.”

The Carrot Principle - Book Review

The central issue in “The Carrot Principle” is to spark motivation and enthusiasm in employees. The writers of the book, Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, claim that the main catalyst for that endeavor is recognition.

Part one of the book starts with Charles Goodyear’s experimentation, hard work, failures, and eventual success in coming up with the prototype of today’s rubber industry. Once the writers lure the interest of the reader with that fascinating story, they go on to present their more or less proven theory of management rewards to stimulate employee participation.

They categorize leadership in basic four areas: Goal setting, Communication, Trust, and Accountability. When and if a manager becomes proficient in these areas, he still needs something more as an accelerator or a catalyst for employee motivation. That catalyst is recognition. Recognition is not a money reward, for money, as much as it is appreciated in the beginning, is used up and forgotten in its due time.

Real recognition comes in many forms: day-to-day pat-in-the back form of recognition, more formal recognition of employees when they go above and beyond their duties, employee’s general career recognition, and celebrating with the entire team or company.

Whether they run a ten-person company or a major mega business, sticking with the carrot principle, managers achieve higher successes with productivity, engagement and retention of employees, and customer satisfaction. The book, The Carrot Principle, emphasizes the triumph of its principal idea with statistical proof by showing several graphs and remarkable case studies of ten years and numerous managers.

For those who claim they have budgeting or other problems for proper employee recognition, chapter ten gives 125 recognition ideas such as: “Don’t send a card on an employee’s birthday; deliver it to her in person. In advance of the visit, write on the card a short list of the person’s achievements during the past year. Read it together. It will be one gift she won’t soon forget.”

As seen from the above quote, the language of the book is easy to understand and the ideas in it are explained with strength and clarity to obtain and maintain a motivated work force that will empower any business.

The book–ISBN-10: 0743290097 and ISBN-13: 978-0743290098–is in 176 pages and is divided in three parts and ten chapters with four appendices at its end.

Of the two authors who are best known as the carrot guys, Adrian Gostick earned his master’s degree in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall University, where he is a guest lecturer on organizational culture. As an employee motivation expert, Gostick has appeared on several network television programs, and he is the leader of O.C. Tanner company’s recognition training and publishing practice. Gostick has written several successful books, including the New York Times bestseller, The Invisible Employee. He also wrote the Wall Street Journal and Business Week bestseller, A Carrot a Day; The Integrity Advantage. His books The 24-Carrot Manager and A Carrot a Day are sold in more than fifty countries around the world.

Chester Elton, the other carrot guy, is a writer-lecturer on motivation. He has also co-authored The Invisible Employee; The 24-Carrot Manager, which was called a “must read” by Larry King; and the Wall Street Journal and Business Week bestseller, A Carrot a Day. As a motivation expert, Elton has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Fast Company magazine, has been profiled in The New York Times, and has been called “an apostle of appreciation” by the Globe and Mail (Canada). He has also been a guest on NBC’s Today Show, CNN’s Business Unusual, and on National Public Radio.

The Carrot Principle is an indispensable book for any manager; however, it is also a good book to read by the layman, because the ideas in it can readily be applied to everyday living.

The Headache - How Can Something So Common Prove To Be So Troublesome?

There is nothing worse than a headache. Of course some of you, or even many of you, may beg to differ. But is there really anything else so common that is so debilitating?

A headache makes it impossible to think, concentrate or do any physical movement. Even sound and light make the pain worse. My headaches usually do not respond to any pain medicine such as aspirin or Tylenol. If they were easy to treat then I wouldn’t dislike headaches so much, but for now they are top on my ‘Physical Ailment That Is Most Hated’ list!

I know I’m not alone in thinking that the headache is the most common ailment. There are a variety of causes for them such as eye problems (such as new lens prescription or working at the computer too long), sinus infections, migraines, tension (most common while at work or with in-laws) and illnesses (for example meningitis or brain tumors).

Don’t fret that your bad headache is a tumor, as more than 95% of headaches are not due to life threatening illnesses. Though, did you hear about that one nurse that thought she just had headaches from stress and found out it was a huge tumor?

Don’t start writing your will now (though you should have a will anyway) as brain tumors and life threatening illnesses that cause headaches are still rare. Most headaches are of the tension headache variety which could be caused by bad posture or ergonomics at the cubicle, as an example. To solve headaches caused by bad posture, make sure you sit up and have your computer monitor at eye level when working at the computer. Hours of being hunched over and looking down at a monitor below your eye level will most definitely cause a headache even after just a few hours.

Other common causes of headaches are not drinking enough water (dehydration), caffeine withdrawal and allergies. When I work I tend to forget to do everything not involved with my work, such as drinking and eating. I’ll usually remember to take a break when I have a headache. That is a typical dehydration headache scenario. If you’re like me, then buy a little timer and set it to go off once an hour. When the timer goes off refill your mug with water or tea (coffee is dehydrating) and drink it all.

The common headache can usually be treated with over the counter medicine such as aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen. The migraine headache will never go away that easily and a prescription for heavy duty painkillers or migraine specific medicine is necessary. Cluster headaches are also very painful and a prescription for pain medicine is necessary.

Home Gardening Tips

Its certainly no suprsie that the popularity of gardening both as a life-style and as a hobby, continues to grow. Indeed, you only have to go out into any neihbourhood on a sunny, summer evening to see that home gardening is at an unprecedented high in America right now. In the United States 8 out of 10 households participate in some type of home gardening activity. Obviously from the number of people that are doing it, home gardening is one of the most popular recreational activities in nation.

The popularity of the pastime is manifold. We know that the message today is “keep fit”; “maintain a healthy life-style” and “eat wholesome food”. What better way to achieve all this and ome than with gardening. The majority of home gardeners look to planting a variety of plant types including flowers; at least they usually begin by planting flowers anyway. Roses will almost certainly be the first consideration for most wannabe gardeners, but roses will take added time and effort, and should in all probability be left to those who have gardened previously. When planting flora many choices are exist, such as bulbs, perennials, and annuals.

Homegrown kitchen produce is another big thing in home gardening. Maybe the best thing about food plants is the reward of eating them. The catalogue of edible plants that gardeners can grow is endless. Some of the most widespread edible plants in the vegetable arena are, potatoes, peas, corn, carrots, squash, and cucumber. A lot of gardeners decide on for fruits, such as, watermelons, tomatoes, peaches, plums, apples, pears, and apricots. Small fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries usually necessitate less work and less space, making them much more practicable for home gardening. Herbs, most often used as spices in cooking, are becoming ever more popular every day; some of the most grown include basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, and cilantro. One of the most important things to watch for when planting edibles is insects and disease, after all, you don’t want to miss out on the banquet you will get to enjoy from hale and hearty plants.

Many people don’t recognize it, but landscaping is a form of home gardening. Landscaping covers many diverse areas and forms of gardening. One can even categorize mowing your lawn as landscaping! Keeping in the line of grasses, landscaping nearly always involves decorative grasses, and the great thing about them is they don’t take much work for upkeep. Types of grass include monkey grass, pampas, buffalo grass, flame grass, and ornamental millet. Landscaping is not just limited to plant life, but also includes anything done to a yard for ornament, such as adding rocks or stones, putting a small pond, statutes, or a waterfall.

There isn’t much variation between home gardening and gardening anywhere else. Plants still require a good location; plants still need water and they still need the same nutrients. Home gardening shouldn’t cause anyone to get nervous. If you do decide to try homing gardening and finding out that you don’t have a green thumb, don’t get discouraged. Get some information, read up on gardening, and try it again the next planting season.

Kitchen Decorating with Elegance and Style

You can decorate your kitchen with elegance and style all by yourself. You don’t need a home decorator to come in and do it for you and charge you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Instead, you can get some kitchen decorating ideas from the Internet or brainstorm some of your own. Once you have some ideas you will be able to start thinking of which ones you like the best as well as the options that will go best with your china dinnerware and your casual dinnerware. You must keep in mind that you want the decor to go with your everyday lifestyle, but be able to change with just a few details to elegant that will complement your Waterford crystals. For example, you might decide on a specific theme that is casual but with silver or gold chargers on the table and fine linens the decor changes to an elegant room that is fitting for your china dinnerware.

If you are on a budget then you need to make a plan. Decide what needs to be done and do as much as you can yourself. More than likely you will be able to do everything on your own, but just in case you have big plans you will be able to cut costs doing what you can on your own and just leave the hard jobs to the professionals. Painting, hanging pictures, and things of this nature should be done on your own. Carpentry work, laying tile or linoleum, and more difficult jobs should be done by a professional unless you know how to do it yourself.

After you have these details covered you should start shopping. Going to discount stores will allow you to buy elegant items that have a cheaper price tag so you can get more for your money. Just remember to have a plan, a color scheme, and an idea of what you need to buy before going shopping. Otherwise, you may find something in a store that you like but that doesn’t work with your plan and you will get mixed up. So, decide if you need a wall clock, new table linens, silk plants, wall pictures, and the like and then think of the colors that you are looking for. That way when you get to a store you can just look at those specific items, buy what you need, and go home to decorate your kitchen. Not only will your kitchen end up looking beautiful, but you will have the pride of having decorated it yourself.

Fast Weight Loss

Most dieters would love to achieve fast weight loss, but quick weight loss diets are not the best way to go. It is recommended that a loss of 1- 2 pounds per week is ideal for most dieters, except the very obese, who are likely to lose more in the early stages of dieting. However, the speed at which you lose weight is not the most important factor to be considered - your ability to lose weight steadily and to maintain that loss is what counts.

Eating a sensible, balanced diet will prove more effective in the long run and so you should discuss this with your doctor or dietician. It is also important not to weigh yourself too frequently. Many people become discouraged when they weigh themselves every day and see that their weight is fluctuating. This can be depressing and can cause you to give up too soon, or to binge and put back on any weight you might have lost. So what started out as fast weight loss quickly turns to fast weight gain.

Although losing weight is a serious business, especially if you are very overweight and at risk of related health problems, it is important not to take it too seriously. If you can relax a little and focus on other things you will avoid becoming obsessed with your diet and therefore less likely to fall off the wagon.

Make sure you are getting enough to eat - starving yourself is not only unproductive in terms of weight loss, but being hungry will make you miserable and unable to concentrate on other things.

The next step is to find something which really interests you. This is a good opportunity to take up a hobby or study a subject you’ve always wanted to learn. Finding something which you are passionate about, other than food, will occupy your mind, make you feel good and stop you thinking about your weight.

Supplement Companies Are Selling More And More To High School Kids

High school teenagers are being lured like fish to supplement companies each and everyday. These companies are sucking in your kids to buy supplements at very high prices and giving them the thought that they can get the muscles they need to compete at their specific sport.

Please realize that teenagers are still growing they do not need supplements to compete. The draw of looking big and fit is making these supplement companies rich. Go to your local health food store and take a look at these prices. They are unbelievably high. High school kids want to look good because of shows like mtv spring break. On average 40 percent of all teenagers in america take supplements now. We did a survey of local high schools in upstate ny and out of one thousands kids four hundred are taking some form of supplement.

What does this mean? Your son or daughter is trying to compete for that scholarship that probably will not come. It probably means that they want to look good for that special someone. Really what this is, is a legalized mob taking advantage of our youth. The stats are staggering. Making money off children is becoming a way of organized crime. No one at the age of sixteen needs whey, protein shakes, or steroids. The body of a sixteen year old taking supplements can only do more harm then good. Your body is still growing. Let it grow naturally. Working out is fine. Don’t be afraid to lift weights, run, or walk.

But we believe taking supplements will only help the rich get richer and do more harm to your body before the age of twenty one. Please do your homework on what your taking.
