Symptoms of Hand- foot-and Mouth Disease

Head ache will be severe for those affected. The toddlers and the infants will experience irritability. The affected person will experience fatigue.

The incubation period of the hand-foot- and mouth disease is 4-7 days. The fever can be felt at first which will be followed by the sore throat. The affected person will have very poor appetite and as the result will be very tired.

After few days [2-3 days] of fever sores that are painful can be noticed in the throat or mouth. After this, the rashes can be noticed in the feet and hand within two to three days. In some cases the rashes can be seen in the buttocks too.

Muay Thai Training Techniques

Muay Thai is a Thai mixed martial art form. It has many techniques of fighting. While using Muay Thai techniques, also known as “Mae Mai Muay Thai,” fighters use the entire body including fists, elbows, shins, feet and knees.

The basic Muay Thai training techniques include punch techniques (jab, straight right/cross, hook and uppercut), elbow techniques (horizontal, diagonal-upwards, diagonal-downwards, uppercut, downward, backward-spinning and flying) and kicking techniques (push kick, roundhouse kick, etc.). The following are some special Muay Thai techniques:

The Clinch

This technique is exclusively used in Muay Thai fights. While combating the fighter applies this technique by holding his opponent either around the neck and head or around the body. It is known as Thai clinch.
To apply the clinch, the fighter has to hold his opponent either around the neck and head or around the body. The fighter also has to press his forearm against his opponent’s collar bone while his hands are around the latter’s head rather than his neck.

A common clinching technique used in Muay Thai fights is to just tap the head downward then give a throw. The fighter can also throw the opponent to his left in case the latter is using a knee from the right. It can cause the opponent to lose his balance.

The Kru

This is a tough technique. A new fighter takes a lot of training and hard work to learn this technique. The technique is provided by the fighter’s Krue or Thai boxing training. The trainer makes the fighter work hard and learn the technique. It is a tradition for the fighter to express his respect to his trainer through a ritual called Wai Kru.

There are some elements that are part of Muay Thai training techniques. These include:-

-Running - A trainee has to run 18 km running per day (around 12 km in the first half and around 6 km in the second half).
-Stretching - The trainee has also to do stretching for around 20-30 minutes. It improves muscular elasticity and reduces the stretch reflex.
-Shadow boxing - This training includes around 20 minutes of shadow boxing. Shadow boxing is usually practiced in front of a mirror.

Muay Thai training takes a lot of hard work. To become a good fighter young people have to go through a lot of physical and mental strain. It takes sheer dedication, commitment, and “never-say-die” attitude that a trainee transforms himself into a sound Muay Thai fighter.

Does God Really Exist? Ask Jack Preger, MBE - Calcutta Street Doctor

“You often see the same thing, but much more profoundly, in the eyes of people who are dying. You’ll also see it sometimes in mentally ill people - it’s almost as though, through their suffering, they acquire some kind of spiritual insight. It’s like a current of divine energy, something so strong and so beautiful, it’s impossible to even describe”

- Dr. Jack Preger.

The first impression of aliens visiting us from an advanced civilization in outer space would most likely be one of awe.

Awe at the stunning variety of landscapes, countless life forms, vast mountain ranges, valleys, deserts, rain forests, lakes, rivers, oceans, and polar ice caps. After all their interstellar travels, they may conclude that we inhabit the most beautiful planet in the Universe.

Their second impression might be of incredulity; of trying to find an interpretation for words such as: countries, nationalities, borders, foreign languages, religions, - and why these names split this relatively tiny planet into hostile, murderous, competing, often non-communicating factions. They might observe that the last word, religion, tends to be the most divisive of any other, and be quite unable to explain, or understand the strange phenomenon.

Not surprising.

Our small abode in the vastness of space is home to a bewildering number of different and sometimes conflicting beliefs, all of which were apparently passed on in some form to specially selected and enlightened human beings by an invisible Deity.

What each of us believes is often entirely influenced by inherited cultural and spiritual teachings, and ready-made, off-the-shelf family faiths. In many cases, these religions dictate our lives. They tell us when and what we can or cannot eat, and what we can or cannot wear. Some oblige us to shave our heads, others forbid us to cut our hair. Even our genital organs are subject to interference.

Once implanted and reinforced by respective societies, countless people end up having their minds imprisoned, with their behaviour, emotional responses, and happiness (or lack of it) extrinsically controlled by a powerful, often irreversible, form of spiritual brain-washing, which is inevitably passed on to their children, and perpetuated. It is endlessly fascinating, and often frightening, to imagine what a liberated mini-skirted secretary in central London might have turned out to be, born instead to poor parents in Lahore or Luanda.

No religion of course can be demonstrated to be true, and neither can we prove the existence of a benevolent Creator. Indeed, if we consider Mother Nature, where “acts of God” such as earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, and other disasters result in countless deaths every year, and on a planet where most living creatures kill and devour each other without mercy in order to survive, it would tend to completely negate the concept of a loving God altogether.

The unpalatable truth is that every single day, millions of wild animals suffer the pain and horror of disease, starvation, or predation. Humankind’s example is even less supportive of a loving God. Countless adherents of the world’s main faiths, supposedly pious adherents of their religious teachings, have throughout history killed, tortured and raped under the banner of their so-called beliefs, and do so tragically today - even as you read this.

Today’s children learn words such as genocide and ethnic cleansing almost as soon as they can comprehend the television news. Anxious mothers warn their children of evil people who sexually molest young boys and girls, whispering that religious figures can be guilty of this too, and nobody will really know how many paedophiles carry out their evil practices hidden behind the cloth of their faith. Wise fathers counsel adolescent siblings about the dangers of being indoctrinated by convincing religious sects designed to enrich their leaders at the expense of their followers, and that astonishingly, many highly intelligent people fall for this deception every single day.

Given the tragic failings of world religions to unite us, agnosticism or aetheism become increasingly more logical to many free-thinking people, the latter now almost becoming ‘fashionable’ in publications exposing the God-paradox, such as Sam Harris’s best-selling book: “The End of Faith”.

But whatever kind of person we are, most of us at some time will feel awed by our own existence - the sheer magic of life itself, or the mysteries of the limitless expanding universe around us.

And for those of us who have faced the heartbreak of watching a loved one pass away before our eyes - the frightening finality of death - the need for a deeper understanding can become agonising. Even Sam Harris himself admits:

‘There is clearly a sacred dimension to our existence, and coming to terms with it could well be the highest purpose of human life”

And at a time when we might open our front door to hear some self-convinced souls warn us that unless we convert to the “truth” contained in the free leaflets they are distributing, we will face damnation, it tells us that something is terribly wrong. More than ever before, there is a profound need for religious tolerance, understanding - and most of all, plain, solid common sense.

One source of this understanding could be an Englishman, an-ex farmer, who calls a spade a spade, and has spent his life searching for pure spiritual truths — a down-to-earth person who has studied the major religions of the world yet adheres to none of them; instead, applying to his own life their combined and highest teachings, stripped of any dogma or doctrine.

Somebody who, like Mother Teresa, has selflessly devoted his life to the service of the poor, but who does not preach, proselytise, or even attend a place of worship. A man with an infectious laugh and a sparkling sense of humour, who is as equally at home in an English pub, as in a third world slum.

Somebody who is not perfect, but is in many ways an exceptional human being. A remarkable man who through his research, and his own profound, inexplicable spiritual experiences, might bring us closer to the universal message, and the reason why we are all here.

Fine Antique Grandfather Clocks

Man who knows the value of time ROY Clements antique clock business began as a hobby more than 30 years ago but now draws customers from all over the world, including members of the Royal Family. As a partner in his company Coppelia Antiques, he employs 11 people at the Cheshire workshop and the company’s prestigious shop in London’s Mayfair. Roy, 65, was a senior engineer jetting all around the world with Pilkingtons until he took a six month holiday after building the Viking cycle factory for the British Government in Northern Ireland. “I used to restore my own clocks and those of other dealers, as a hobby, and my wife Valerie said why not do clocks full-time?” Roy explains. “After giving up a high profile job, company car and pension we have not looked back.”

His firm, Coppelia Antiques has been based in Plumley near Knutsford since 1974. In 1995 they approached the Queen’s jewellers, Aspreys (now Asprey-Garrards), offering to take over their antique clock business, RA Lee. In its place Roy set up a new London company, Pendulum of Mayfair, and bought the former Fred Perry tennis shop in Maddox Street, off New Bond Street. Two of Roys three sons, Duncan and Daniel, are involved in the business, which came from a family fascination with clocks. My father was a very practical man, from an early age he let me look inside the clock mechanisms to see what made them tick, says Roy.

I had a five year apprenticeship with the UK Atomic Energy Authority using all different machine tools, lathes and other mechanical devices, so I am part of the engineering world. Roy, a chartered engineer, has a boyish enthusiasm for the timepieces lovingly restored at the Plumley workshop, and is eager to explain the history and influence of British clock making. In the 18th century the best craftsmen were usually found in port cities such as Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bristol and Hull where mahogany could be found on the quaysides, carried as ballast in ships bringing cotton in exchange for slaves. Each city had a distinctive style of clock but all this variety came to an end in the first decade of the 19th century, with the introduction of mass produced clock faces and movements(mechanisms) in Birmingham. I stop at 1810, says Roy, consultant clocks editor of Millers Antiques Price Guide. He has amassed one of the finest collections of 18th century clocks in the world. But never again will it be possible to collect the clocks I’ve got, he says, mourning the loss of craft skills and the values which created objects still in use more than 300 years later. They are special, my clocks, not like things with a battery that you buy today and then throw away when the battery runs out.

At the Cheshire workshop, where clocks stand eight deep waiting for restoration, staff serve a minimum apprenticeship of five years or more, preparing them to work on some of the finest antiques in the world. We completely dismember the movement, which can contain 20 pivots, and refit the wheels. For the cases, we only restore with wood of the same period, so we may buy an antique table for 1,500 and hand-saw it into veneers to replace the wood on a damaged clocks case - we are very much into recycling! Coppelia Antiques only work on clocks in sleepy original condition, with a minimum of parts changed. All their clocks have their correct movements and original bases, unlike many for sale in auction houses, known as marriages, in which the movements do not belong to the case. We do not buy these type of clocks, says Roy. We never apologise for spending three or four weeks in restoring or bringing back to life an old tired clock, so long as it has not been butchered in the past.

After we have finished the restoration and we are happy, all our staff admire the piece and it gives us all a lot of satisfaction. We have transformed something thats not been touched for over a hundred years sometimes, into something that you want to hold and cuddle. Roys personal clock collection includes one once owned by Rudyard Kipling, bought for 13 guineas in 1934, a brass lantern clock from the 1600s, made by one of the first clockmakers in Lancashire, and one of the first Cumberland clocks, made by Aaron Cheeseborough. Many clocks come with their own stories, such as the one bought from an old lady who remembered how, as a young girl, she had to curtsey every time it chimed. Roy also collects music boxes and other automata, such as a 19th century French music box featuring a monkey that smokes cigarettes, blows smoke rings and wafts the smoke away with its paw.

The monkey was featured in an episode of the Sherlock Holmes TV series and smoked so many cigarettes that one of its tubes was blocked with tar and had to be replaced - proof that smoking is bad for monkeys. Some customers, aware that time is money, buy antique clocks as tax-efficient investments, as they are exempt from capital gains and inheritance tax. One 90-year-old lady approached Roy to invest more than 3 million in clocks recently. Another tax rule exempts the clocks from VAT if they are exported, which explains the sad statistic that 87pc of sales go to the US, says Roy. As he talks about his love for clocks, an orchestra of chimes, bongs, rings and tings builds to a crescendo as the hour approaches. Roy has a simple explanation for the fascination of clocks, particularly grandfather clocks. Each tick is at a frequency of one per second, which is very similar to the first sound we hear, our mothers heartbeat in the womb. It’s very soothing if you are in a room alone with a grandfather clock.

Are You Becoming Obsolete?

Are you feeling obsolete?

Old processor going too slow?

Memory leak affecting you?

Maybe its time to upgrade?

Ok, you get it. I see that you’re not the geek. You’re not technically minded. You are someone who wants the TV to work and doesn’t care about the inside.

Another common mistake made by you is, “Technology is being developed too fast for my old self to catch up”.

Yes a common misconception among people of any age. Technology is NOT being developed quickly at all. We as a society are slow to implement technology and developing anything can take years. For example, the Iphone by apple (actually the Iphone naming is held under Cisco) is not new technology. Someone could have released the same product a few years back (some did) but it wouldn’t have picked up. Why? Because it would be a brick. Computer chips are only getting smaller with every so often a new development to lower power requirements or electricity throughput. We are limited by size, shape, batteries and consumer opinion.

Huh? You maybe thinking.

When something revolutionary is created, its fully criticized on every level. That’s just one of the reasons why it takes so long for something new to come to the market. Another factor is the company creating it, the building processes, cost and transport. Marketing also pays a big part of it and so does fashion. The Ipod succeeded not because it was an alright product, it was because it was socially thought of as “cool”. There were better music players on the market at the time but the Ipod won. It was not a huge step in technological development but the implementation and awareness of music playing devices exploded. It is now common place to have wires hanging out your ears.

So how do I keep up with technology? How can I stop it affecting me so greatly?

Well easy, keep up to date on what’s happening. I use Google news to quickly view and sometimes read some of the latest developments. Google just indexes the top news sites and provides the first few lines of the story. Its a quick, easy way to stay up to date on the technology news. Plus you will start to notice half of what comes up each day is a repeat of another day. This makes reading quicker and makes you more aware there isn’t too much new development. It may take you 5 minutes each day or every 2nd day. The result of which means you may never be surprised at new products such as the Ipod or Iphone or even Windows Vista (was codenamed longhorn 2 years ago when it was originally supposed to come out).

Another great thing about this is that you start to pick up technical terms, and knowledge meaning you are learning more each day.

So are you becoming obsolete? NO. You just need to stop being lazy for 5 minutes a day and learn a bit.

If you want to or need to learn more about the computer and other such technology, a good way to do will be through this site. I put my knowledge onto this website and in front of you so that you can learn more. (Sign-up if you want a weekly (newsletter/wake up call) to my free newsletter for even more information)

Just one question for you to think about…

What’s the fastest/best computer in the world?

(Scroll down for the answer)

THE HUMAN BRAIN. Sure we may be slower in math’s calculations but computers can think, have emotions and process the world around it. (YET) You are not obsolete. No one is.

Cameron has developed a large amount of knowledge about computers mainly picked up by personal experience. Although Cameron is a programmer, he has a vast amount of knowledge on such things as computer hardware, networks and the internet.
