Stress Reduction - Some Simple Secrets

Just imagine going to your job and you do not need to even brush your teeth or comb your hair. Lets take it one step further by saying you can do your work in your pyjamas. These are just a few of the simple secrets I use to ease the anxiety and stress in my life. I have talked to many people and as if by just joking about this concept they actually got to thinking it was a great idea. I actually decided to give up my job at the nursing home and stay at home to work.

I remember the sound of the alarm clock going off every morning when I was snuggled under the nice warm covers and believe me it took everything I had to get up and deal with my at home responsibilities before I could even get to my paying job. I new that when quitting time came at the end of the day that after the short ride home I would be getting stressed out and anxious, bordering on depression just thinking about all that I would be doing at home for the rest of my night. I felt like two people who wore so many hats with all I had to do each and everyday.

There never was enough time to get it all done and I felt overwhelmed at times. This certainly is not a new concept for people who work outside the home and have children, a husband, activities, commitments and perhaps even looking after ageing parents. Just reliving the memories of all of that makes me feel the beginnings of anxiety. Fortunately I can keep the stress from the job and time issues from taking over my life now that I took the suggestion of a trusted family member to stay home to do my work.

I wondered if people who stayed home to work really were having success and could the average, regular high school graduate have similar results. With some research and talking to my friends I discovered that there may be something I could do with my time.

Along with having my outside job, being a wife, mother, cook, nurse, chauffeur, cleaning service and outside activity coordinator I asked myself if I was really happy doing all of this each day.

The stress and anxiety would build into periods of depression and I knew I wanted to eliminate these issues. I had to ask myself what I was passionate about before I could make the transition from the traditional outside job to the new concept of working at home.

Working from home had definite advantages for me especially after I suffered a heart attack. That was certainly a motivating factor in my decision to change my life. I did my personal homework and found my number one passion.

I had the desire to help others recover from anxiety, panic, stress and depression. I felt I could identify with others who were suffering like I had been.

I have learned so many new skills and have found so much to be grateful and thankful for in the last eight months that I no longer think in the terms of a job but this is the calling I have had inside of me for years.

I get a feeling of importance that I am doing something so rewarding and worthwhile. I can reach so many people and bring my own information to them. I get to continue the helpfulness and caring that I used to give to my family when they were all at home. I still am involved in their lives but this is a way to use my abilities to reach out. I know I can make a difference by taking my desires and putting them into action.

I keep motivated because I am continuing to learn everyday and it is exciting and challenging.

“For 40 years, 7 months, 4 days and 3.9 hours I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks - especially after my heart attack on August 12th, 5:00am EST 2006. As a result of my suffering, I decided I would go on a crusade to reveal the most powerful, most effective and most successful system for living an Anxiety and Panic Free Life.” - Lorraine Roach, Founder AnxietyEnded.com Visit: http://www.anxietyended.com to discover what 99.2% of ALL anxiety and panic sufferers do wrong, and how to make sure YOU avoid it.

Analyzing Your Business & Market

Before you can develop an effective marketing plan for your business, you must know the answers to the following key questions and then proceed to preparing a feasibility study.

What business are you really in?

What are the relative strengths and weaknesses of your company?

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your products/services?

What are your company’s goals?

Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses

Company image

Products and services (including price)

Benefits to customers

The cost of producing these products or services

Management skills

Human resources

Business location

Facilities and equipment

Financial situation, including financing, cash flow and net profits

Setting Company Goals

Unrealistic vs. Realistic
Inconsistent vs. Consistent
Not Specific vs. Specific
Not measurable vs. Measurable

To be successful make sure your goals are Realistic, Consistent, Specific and Measurable. It sounds easy but, it requires careful thought and honesty.

Analyzing the Market

In order to analyze the potential for your business, you need to answer some questions/requests to determine the data and methods you use to achieve your business goals.

1.-What do you estimate the total market–in terms of numbers of prospective buyers and dollars–to be for your product or service?

2.-If your business can be broken down into different categories, list the total market for each of these categories.

3. Has the market continued to grow over the last 5 to 10 years

4.-State the growth as a percentage or total dollar volume. How does it relate to your business?

5.-Are there any demographic trends to support your business concept?

6, Have there been any shifts in the economy that will likely make your Business prosper?

7.-How will you attract and keep your customers?

8.-How are you going to price your product or service, to make a fair profit, and at the same time, be competitive?
9.-Will someone pay your price?

10. How can you expand your market?

11. Who are your targeted customers?

12. Within these targeted customers, who is typically the buying decision maker?

13. How large does the potential market have to be in the location you chose to set up your business?

14. What kinds of needs do your customers have and how will you meet them?

15. What kind of distribution is critical to the success of your business?

16. Will you offer credit to your customers (accounts receivable)? If so, is this really necessary? Can you afford to extend credit? Can you afford bad debts? Will your business be accessible through the Internet?

These are just some of the questions that need answers

Now you have to assess and examine your place in the market and the growth opportunities. There are two key components to understanding the market: knowing your customers and knowing your competition. Research information on both customers and competition is essential to creating an effective marketing plan.

Simply put, a market is a group of people with wants, needs, values, expectations, money to spend and the willingness to spend it. They will exchange their money for products and services for one of three reasons:

-To satisfy basic needs

-To solve problems

-To make themselves (or someone else) feel good.

It is most important to know your customers and potential customers and then give them what they want.
In order to sell to customers you need to know:

-Where they live

-Their age and gender

-Their occupation and level of education

-Their family size and description

-Their income (particularly disposable income)

-Their wants, needs, current buying habits

-How they spend their leisure time

When selling to another business, you need to know:

-The type of business and location

-Its products, services and annual sales volume

-The number of employees

-The specific needs of those who will use their product or service

-How purchasing decisions are made and who makes them

-Purchasing policy, including buying volume and seasonal buying patterns.

It is important not to identify your market as everyone and anyone. It’s difficult, and expensive, to let everyone know about your product or service. It is better, by far, to find the people most likely to buy your product or service.

As you look around there are lots of other companies vying for your customer’s attention. Your goal is to create value, a reflection of worth rather than cost. This is where you have to differentiate yourself. If there is no difference between you and the next guy, it all comes down to price.

As mentioned, it is also important to understand what the competition is.

In addition to the competition, it is useful to understand the bigger industry you are playing in as well as the environmental and regulatory climate.

Once you have chosen your target market and understand the landscape, how do you fit in? The easiest way to find out is to take a snapshot— a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats). Included in this should be:

-A cost analysis-what does it cost you to deliver the product or service?

-What are the financial resources and constraints of the company?

-What are your distinctive assets and liabilities?

-What strategic questions do you have?

There are other issues you must address including asking “What does the company stand for”? Clearly it is there to make money, but money is the byproduct of a well-run organization. A company that understands and operates from an ethical core will produce a sustainable business with satisfied customers, fulfilled employees, industry respect and the potential to do great things.

Are You Finally Leaving the Stone Age?

Still calling friends and family using the old phone that Mr. Bell invented long time ago? Well it might not exactly be Stone Age technology but it is not state of the art anymore. Maybe you are one of the many people that are moving from ordinary phones over to the use of VoIP technology which is the used of the internet to phone other people. Some people might refer to it as broadband phones.

Broadband phones are great for both home and business usage. However if you are thinking of implementing it in larger business then sufficient bandwidth will be an issue that you need to consider upfront.

To use the VoIP technology you will only need the computer that you already have, the internet connection that you already have and then a set of headphones and a microphone (or a headset with build in microphone). Secondly your internet connection will need to be broadband, Cable or DSL in order for you to have the high quality (amount of transferred data) that is voice conversation requires.

The internet connection you have is the single most important aspect affecting the quality of your VoIP calling experience. It doesn’t matter nearly as much what VoIP provider you have. Using a 56k modem will give you an extremely poor performing quality of sound and it will result in you having a negative VoIP experience. The second most important issues are the configuration of the hardware for VoIP, but if you make sure to follow the guides that is provided (or call technical service for help) you should be just fine.

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a DSL or similar internet service so that you are able to enjoy the high quality of online phoning.

First important thing

To the question “Do you need to keep a landline for your DSL to work?”, there is a really simple answer and that is that if your provider says that you don’t then you don’t. Now that was easy wasn’t it?

Second important thing

Second thing is that you need to be sure that you are not being ripped off. Browse Google or Yahoo to see what the available providers are offering in terms of service, extra features and naturally price. You might even be lucky to find sites that actually compare the prices of the different DSL providers which will make your task so much easier.

If you can find a provider that delivers “naked DSL” then that would be the optimal solution for VoIP because of its stability but other services will do just fine as well. In order to test the internet connection that you already have go to the site called TestMyVoIP.com. This simple test will show you what the line performance is and the call quality as well (they go together).

A third suggestion for you is to visit a few forums or bulletin boards where VoIP topics are discussed. You will be able to get any questions that you might have answered fairly quickly and that will help you go for the best possible solution.

Luckily the available broadband solutions keep getting better and better (and at a lower and lower cost) and we will soon see a huge boosts in subscribers of VoIP. No doubt about it!

Five Best Ways to Develop Your Coping Skills When Mourning the Death of a Loved One

Does the grief you are experiencing seem to be relentless? Is there no end in sight? That feeling is not unusual for many. A common experience for mourners is not to be able to find a nurturing support system, the confidence to deal with change, and reliable information to help deal with their loss.

There is good reason for this. At root, education about coping with loss is nearly nonexistent-until a major loss occurs. Then the search is on at a time when the disorganization and stress of grief is high.

However, it is never too late to begin the task of finding out that there is a wide range of normalcy among grief reactions, that there are proven ways to deal with loss as long as you persist, and that despite your deep hurt you can learn to confront your emotions and find peace of mind.

Where can you start?

1. Begin by considering friends and relatives who have suffered similar losses and how they have coped with them. It is perfectly normal and smart to humbly seek out the wisdom of others. Reach out, and don’t let your pride hold you back. There is much experience out there. Ask specific questions, weigh the benefits and disadvantages of the answers, then decide if you want to use what you have heard or let it go as not applicable to your situation.

2. Search the grief literature for some of the huge quality resources available. Pamphlets and articles on grief are abundant. At your library, local hospice or on the Internet you will find a wide variety of material. You may not feel like reading anything early in your grieving. If so, come back to this resource later. There is so much information from reading alone that can help you. Again, pick and choose what rings true for you and discard the rest.

3. Be willing to join a grief support group. There is so much information you will be introduced to. For example, many grievers do not realize that there are many secondary losses in addition to the major loss that need to be recognized and grieved. Also, you can learn much from other mourners who are at different stages in their grieving. Remember that the fabric of connections you have are unique just to you and no one else. You will sense who to speak to about your feelings and who to ask advice from.

4. Become aware of the damaging grief myths you believe in. Here are some common ones: you should be over grief in a few weeks; crying is a sign of weakness; grief only affects the emotions; you are supposed to let go of the person who died; you will be your old self again. Remember, all beliefs have a powerful effect on behavior, often without you knowing it. There is nothing wrong with discarding unworkable beliefs.

5. Visit a grief counselor. Write up your list of questions before you go. Don’t just go to anyone who does counseling. Look for a professional whose primary counseling load is with people who are grieving. Consult the Association for Death Education and Counseling (www.adec.org) for grief counselors in your area. They can help you uncover your strengths, myths that are prolonging grief, and remove the obstacles to reducing the intensity of your grief.

In developing coping skills to deal with your loss, be assured that the specific information to help you is out there. But you must take action at a most difficult time in order to uncover it. Follow your heart. We need each other; and at a time of great loss it is not a sign of weakness to seek assistance, and through trial and error, move through the grief process and the growth it can surely bring.

Save Huge Amounts on Long Distance Calls Using VoIP

Did you ever consider using your computer and the internet connection that you already have and that you are probably already paying a monthly fee for, to phone friends, family and relatives abroad? Normal telephone rates for long distance calls can be very expensive and especially if you are calling countries that are one of the major industrialized ones.

If you would like your phone bill to much smaller or maybe even totally disappear then you really need to learn about the VoIP technology that already exists and are becoming more and more common due to the low cost (or even zero costs) and the high quality it provides. But first I will cover some basics with you about the technology with which you are able to phone using your computer and internet connection.

The 4 letter term “VoIP” stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a technology that has become public within the last 5-10 years and what it does is that it converts audio signals into small data fragments called packets. These packets are then sent to the person in the other end using the internet highway. When it arrives at its destination it is reassembled and transformed back into audio that the person in the other end can hear. It might sound a little bit strange but the process in not that different from sending emails to friends and relatives. An email is also transmitted through small packets sent over the internet at the speed of light. The great about this form of communication is that it is fast, reliable and very economic.

Why not switch to VoIP?

The most obvious reason for using VoIP is that it is definitely the way of the future. There are no standard telephone providers that are able to compete with the VoIP providers low prices if they are to use their old copper based systems. Even if they reduced their earnings and profit margins, their systems are just costly and ineffective to run, compared to the new VoIP technology. Using the internet protocols to send sound packages using the internet is an extremely cost effective way for the companies to provide the ability to make a phone call (long distance and short distance). The bottom line for you as the costumer will be that you are able to realize huge savings over your phone bills and especially if you are making many long distance phone calls.

A nice little feature that you might not have thought of is that with this technology you will now be able to receive local phone calls no matter where in the world you are located. You will even be able to have local phone numbers in places like New York, Moscow, Toronto, London and any place else in the world (where there is a supplier for this product). Now that would look cool on a business card.

So when you are on vacation in sunny Italy you can still receive a local call from e.g. US. Friends and family will be surprised when you tell them that you are not hope an that you are on the other side of the planet.

So many additional free options

As you would now be using a computer you have all the advantages of that. Most VoIP companies delivers standard packages that include: answering machines, show caller ID, voice mail option, video conferencing and many more.

Skype - The Favorite Tool

If you haven’t heard of Skype you haven’t been reading enough newspapers. Skype is a small piece of software that was developed by two young Scandinavian men. Not to long ago it was bought by Ebay and they both made fortunes.

Skype provides a piece of software that you download to your computer. To be able to call someone else for free, the other person has to have the Skype installed as well prior to be receiving the call. Skype is 100% free to download and you are only charged if you would like to take advantage of some of the extra options that are available (voice mail, video conferencing etc.).

A few years ago they also developed the concept of “Skype Out”, which offers you the possibility to contact any telephone line, without needing the end user to have the basic program installed. All they would need is a phone and a phone number.

A few of the other companies that you could benefit from knowing are Vontage, Packet 8 and Sun Rocket. You can probably find many other great companies but be sure to do your research if you are not using one of the larger providers. Talk to people that have already used the smaller providers’ services to see whether they are happy with it.

Investing - Performance Really Does Matter

Hey Guys, it turns out performance really does matter! No, I’m not talking about what you think-I’m referring to the performance of your investments! One mistake people often make is forgetting that investment performance impacts their lifestyle.

Why are you investing in the first place? You have a goal or a dream that you want to accomplish. For some of my clients that dream is to have the financial freedom to travel and to explore, to go and see and do. For others that dream is having the financial freedom to be at home and spoil their grandchildren.

What’s your dream? It might be having enough money to pay for your children’s college education, help them start a business or buy their first home. Maybe it’s retiring early so you can bicycle across America.

Your dreams are the end game; investing is only the means to reach them. That’s why performance really does matter. The return on your investments determines when and if you live your dream. The better your performance the sooner your dreams will be realized.

When you invest you accept a certain level of risk. Not all investments at that level of risk will perform the same. Most will perform average. Some will perform less than average while others return more than average. Selecting the investment that performs above average versus one that is an under-achiever can dramatically affect how long it takes to reach your goals.

Ted is 50 years old and his dream is to have a nest egg big enough to allow him and his wife, Darlene, to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. They would like to retire as soon as they can and pursue their dream of being missionaries. Proper planning determines they need $750,000 to live their dream. They’ve worked hard, sacrificed to build up their retirement savings and have accumulated $375,000 already.

Their return will determine how long it takes. Let’s assume that Ted has a choice of three similar investments. One is a poor performer and only averages 5% per year. If he chooses that one, Ted will have to work until he is 64 years old. The second performs average and earns 7% per year allowing Ted to retire at age 60. And if the third was at the head of the class and averaged 10% per year they could be missionaries at age 57. By the way, we’re assuming they don’t add to their retirement savings.

Think about that! By improving the performance of their nest egg Ted can retire 7 years sooner. Do you really want to prolong your retirement an additional 7 years? Increasing your performance just a small amount will, over time, allow you to reach your goal sooner.

When many of my clients first met with me they were in average performing investments. By spreading their nest egg among several different investment baskets we reduced their overall risk. Then by focusing on each individual investment and searching far and wide for those that had consistently performed at the head of the class we were able to improve their return. The result is that they will be able to reach their dreams sooner than they otherwise would have.

How can you reach your dreams sooner? Make sure you pay close attention to the performance of your investments. It is especially easy to see how mutual fund and variable annuity investments rank through Morningstar. I’ve provided links to each on my website at www.guardingyourwealth.com.

For instance, a Morningstar report will tell how a mutual fund’s performance ranks with all other mutual funds that have the same objective. It provides an independent, objective report that will let you know how well your investments have performed. It will also help you see whether your advisor is doing a good job for you.

Your investments should consistently rank in the top 10-15% of similar investments. Check the rank before you invest but then monitor the rank every 6 months. If your investments aren’t performing then you maybe you should look for a different advisor because, hey guys, it turns out performance really does matter!

Mastering Digital Photography Lighting

When you are taking photos and the lighting conditions are perfect, then digital photography lighting is not a problem. Unfortunately, most of the time, the conditions are not ideal so photographers have to learn to use light to get the desired results. The first thing you want to be concerned with is the main source of light on your subject. Ask yourself questions such as where the light source comes from, do you require artificial light, is there enough natural light and will your tripod need stabilizing because of low light? You need to master digital photography lighting to get the clarity and detail in your image. Sometimes a flash is all you need, while other occasions require different lighting. Remember that a flash does not benefit all situations.

You do not want a flash to interfere artistically or socially, such as during someone’s wedding vows, as you will end up with a flat digital image. This occurs frequently on digital cameras with a built-in flash and they also only light the subject from the front. Because of this the digital photo depth is compressed, which really decreases and detracts from the digital image. One way to avoid this is by watching exactly where the light falls. Once you learn and understand about digital photography lighting, the task becomes easier as you learn exactly what does and does not work when using a flash. Use a higher ISO to help alleviate a low light problem - this is a sensor that is light sensitive - but remember that there is an increase in noise when using the ISO. Fortunately, some good software programs available on the market today do reduce the noise. Adjusting the ISO to a higher level also works great in situations where a flash is not acceptable, such as someone giving a speech, where a flash would be disruptive.

If you take many sports photographs, try experimenting with and without a flash and your camera settings, to learn what works best. A built-in flash is more effective up close, where an external flash is more powerful. Many sports stadiums remain well enough lit to take pictures without a flash and many do not allow a flash, because it distracts the competitors. One digital photography lighting technique that works well for taking still subjects in very low light is image stabilization. IS or image stabilization allows you to lower your shutter speed, which works great, but this is not suitable for fast-moving images. In any case, read your camera manual, as many digital cameras have a built-in mode for taking sports pictures. This controls the amount of light admitted, the ISO and the shutter speed, so you end up with the best photograph possible, under the lighting conditions you find yourself working in.

Hip Hop Beats Warning - Be Careful Where You Buy Your Hip Hop Beats

As an up and coming hip hop artist you need to be very careful. You are more open to attack than most simply because of the music industry being in the shape it is. The last thing you want is to have all your hard work disintegrated because you used hip hop beats, sound effects or samples that were not as royalty-free as you expected. The horror stories are many and knowing how to protect yourself is of utmost importance.

Hip hop artists and producers need a constant flow of new hip hop beats, sound effects, samples and scratches to keep their music fresh and on the cutting edge. The problem is that finding a cost-effective and legal means of acquiring these hip hop beats is proving to be difficult. Hopefully the following list of things to look for and what to avoid will aid you in your search for a top notch hip hop beats resource for all your production needs.

1) Look for a hip hop beats resource where you can have unlimited access for a one-time fee. Avoid sites that charge per beat or that require a monthly membership to be paid to access the hip hop beats, sound effects etc. This is of course the best case scenario you could find. These resources are rare and are not advertised heavily (for obvious reasons) but they are available and are a much better option for any artist or producer starting out, who is looking for a good selection of raw hip hop beats.

2) Look for a resource that houses a huge hip hop beats database or library. Avoid unprofessional looking sites that offer hip hop beats packages or CD’s for sale and that only offer up one or two audio samples to listen to. The worst thing that can happen is to purchase a beat membership, whether a one-time fee or a monthly access fee, to a site that has so few hip hop beats everyone and their grandmother will have access to them. This is the problem with purchasing CD’s from a supposed production company. You have no clue how many of them they sold and I guarantee you that there is not much on there and they are highly unoriginal.

3) Look for a site that caters to all genres of hip hop. Avoid sites or companies that do not separate their hip hop beats by genre or style. I don’t know about you but I do not really want someone else to define for me what hip hop is. This just goes along with making sure you are providing for yourself a wide range of choices for your productions. If you have access to every hip hop beats style imaginable your productions will come across as more professional and original. A real professional production company is capable of doing this and is also capable of churning them out on a daily or weekly basis for your personal use.

4) Look for a site that offers all their hip hop beats and sound effects in a downloadable format. Avoid sites that only stream their hip hop beats. By being able to download each individual hip hop beat, scratch, or effect to your own computer, you can more easily incorporate it into your own production setup and tweak it to your liking. If you paid for it and it is yours, why would you only be able to stream the track? That just makes extra work for you and is unprofessional.

5) Look for a site that offers non-exclusive and royalty-free hip hop beats. Avoid ANY site that does not implicitly state this somewhere on the main page. This is probably the most important aspect of all and forgetting this one thing could cost you dearly. You do not want to have to worry about licensing restrictions or copyright infringement. Protect your hard work and do not let anyone take it from you. Royalty-free means you do not have to pay anyone to use the hip hop beats or sounds. You can mix and match, tweak and produce to your liking without restriction.

Although these are not the only considerations to take into account they are certainly the most important. Things like the quality of the hip hop beats and the price for membership are left up for you to decide. You know what is best for your music. Good luck and we’ll see you on the flipside!

Adam Bauthues recommends Beats 365 for unlimited, royalty-free hip hop beat downloads. Beats 365 members can download thousands of full tracks, beats, instrumentals, sound effects, nature sounds, instrument sounds and more, anytime they want, as well as market their music to record labels and distributors! An affordable one-time fee applies to become a member - No recurring fees, no hidden charges and no limits! Come visit us and see for yourself. http://TheBeatLibrary.com

The Different Health Insurance Plans for Businesses

Health insurance is something you know you need, but the plans can be very complex. To take the mystery out of them, let’s take a look at the basic plans available.

One always needs to include a caveat when discussing health insurance plans. Much like the mortgage market, there are a wide variety of plans available. Some can even be custom made for very large businesses. That aside, there are three basic forms of health insurance for most businesses.

The health maintenance organization is the most common approach to business health insurance. You probably know it better by the abbreviation of HMO. Generally speaking, an HMO is the cheapest health insurance available. A monthly premium is required as is a small co-pay by patient each time they visit a medical provider. Unfortunately, you can only use doctors and facilities that have been approved by the HMO unless you are receiving emergency care.

The preferred provider organization is the next step up the food chain of health insurance solutions for businesses. You probably know it better as a PPO. The PPO is more flexible than you average HMO. You can seek treatment from medical providers outside of the list of approved doctors by the PPO. You also do not require a referral from a general physician to a specialist.

The downside of the PPO is the cost. With flexibility come increased premiums. In general, you can also expect to pay more of your medical cost for treatment by providers outside of the approved list of physicians maintained by the PPO. Each PPO is different, but you can expect to pay 20 percent of such medical bills if you use a physician that is not approved.

Our third option is the point-of-service plan. You probably know it as a POS. The POS is essentially a hybrid plan. It is designed to combine the best of the HMO and PPO world, or at least that is the idea. You must pick an approved physician as your primary care giver. If you go outside of the list of approved medical providers, you are going to pay most of the cost of doing so with one exception. The exception is important. If your primary care giver refers you to a doctor outside of the approved list of providers, the POS will pick up the cost.

When picking a health insurance plan, the devil is in the details as they say. Get a firm understanding of what you need from your plan and then find an appropriate policy.

Extremely Large and Extremely Small Televisions

For the last 5 or 6 years the media (and therefore also the public) has focused either the huge television sets or the extremely small televisions that can be carried around in your pocket. On the tiny end of the scale you have the portable players with 2-4 inch screens that can pack enormous amounts of video into a piece of hardware the size of a wallet or even a credit card.

On the other end of the spectrum there are the large HDTVs where anything smaller than 42 inches isn’t even worth talking or writing about if you ask much of the popular media. You are sometimes left wondering if there’s still anything in between these two extremes - while both of these types of technology are impressive nonetheless.

Finding a normal television with a 4:3 aspect ratio in a similar size between twenty to thirty inches is actually becoming more and more difficult. That is unless you are then compensation by going for digital televisions like LCD screens or plasma screens. The most significant difference between the TV’s that are available today and those that were available ten years ago is the fact that modern standard definition television sets typically have digital tuners built in. The TV manufacturers are preparing for the change to digital television (planned for 2009) even though it’s unclear whether or not it will actually happen on schedule.

There is a bigger question than whether or not standard TV sets are still available. There are many arguments against investing in a standard definition television right now and the most obvious argument against getting one is the fact that more and more TV shows are being produced in the HDTV format. Secondly many TV distributors are preparing to offer more HDTV channels over the next couple of years.

As the popularity and availability of HDTV programming increases, we are likely to see a great (and expanding) effect in the number of TV channels and TV shows that will change to High Definition Television. The more channels and programs that make the switch, the more people will watch the programs on these channels and the public will begin to ask questions why the rest of the channels haven’t also made the switch to HDTV and will put pressure on them to do so.

This is not to say that standard definition TV will be nonexistent in the future. But it is more likely that the TV programs and shows that are produced in the High Def format will be “down converted” to standard definition format and be shown on standard definition television channels, at least for some years to come.

This is actually already happening to some extent as it was seen in the most recent Star Trek series which was shot in high definition. Because this was still a very popular show for people to watch on normal standard definition channels and while it originally aired in standard definition a lot of its fans probably didn’t even realize that it had actually been shot in HD. This brings us to another of the many advantages of HDTV sets - Even if you are not watching HDTV on it, there’s an increasing trend to broadcast normal television shows in the wide screen format that looks good on HDTV screens.
