The 10 Important Tips on Cruise Ship Travel Etiquette

The most luxurious gift that you can give to you and loved ones is a cruise. It will be the most relaxing and still thrilling experience of your life. Cruising to countries where you will be able to disembark to shop in boutiques and dine in restaurants in foreign cities will create memories that will last for the rest of your life.

For those who will be cruising for the first time, it is important to research all aspects of cruising from motion sickness to cruise etiquette.

Believe it or not, there is etiquette for cruise ships. It is simple guidelines that need to be followed in order to maintain a certain level of order among the thousands of other passengers on the ship.

* Be pleasant! You and your fellow passengers are on a cruise to relax and have fun. Nobody wants to hear complaints or be around a crabby person. People will respond better to someone with a good attitude.

* Manners should be used all the time, however, when you are on a cruise with thousands of other people, using manners will maintain a degree of order and you will not be considered to be rude.

* If you bring your children on a cruise with you, it is important to maintain a certain amount of control. It is natural for them to be excited, however when they are over stimulated, bring them to your cabin to calm them down.

* Dressing inappropriately can offend many people at the same time. Dress appropriately for the function that you are attending.

* When you participate in activities that the cruise ship offers, it is important that you know what time the activity starts and be there on time. You will avoid asking questions that may have already been answered.

* If you decide to see one of the many performances that cruise ships have to offer, it is only good manners not to talk or even walk out before the show is over.

* When you disembark for a day of shopping at one of the ports of call, it is crucial that you know what time to be back. When you are late, you will risk causing a panic or being left behind.

* Be considerate of those around you. If you are a smoker, ask to be seated in the smoking section or go outside to smoke. With the rising concerns of second hand smoke you will avoid being labeled as inconsiderate.

* Listening to music can be relaxing and even soothing. However, not everyone will appreciate your choice in music. Keep the volume down, or even better, wear earphones when you are by the pool or on deck.

* It is an honor to be invited to dine at the captain’s table. The whole process is elaborately done with invitations complete with an RSVP. It is important that you respond immediately with your decision.

Cruises were meant for people to relax and have fun, and to meet new people. By following these guidelines, your cruising experience will sure to create memories and possibly friendships that will last a lifetime.

Nutrition Facts - Alcohol, Antioxidants, Caffeine and Calcium

In this article you will learn some simple nutrition facts about alcohol, antioxidants, caffeine and calcium.

Too much alcohol can raise the levels of fats in the blood, lead to high blood pressure, heart failure and increased calories. Too many calories lead to obesity and a higher risk of developing diabetes. Excessive and binge drinking can lead to stroke.

The American Heart Association recommends if you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Moderation means an average of one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. A drink is equivalent to 12 oz. of beer, 4 oz. of wine, 1.5 oz. of 80-proof spirits, or 1 oz. of 100-proof spirits. Drinking more than this increases all the health risks as noted above. In addition, it is not possible to predict in which people alcoholism will become a problem. The American Heart Association cautions people not to start drinking if they do not already drink alcohol.

Pregnant women should not drink alcohol in any form; it can harm the baby seriously.

Antioxidant vitamins

There has been a lot of research recently focused on how antioxidant vitamins may reduce cardiovascular disease risk. The data is incomplete; however, up to 30 percent of Americans are taking some form of antioxidant supplement.

The American Heart Association does not recommend people using antioxidant vitamin supplements until more complete data is available. They recommend people eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods daily from all the basic food groups. Eat a variety of foods low in saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol to provide a natural source of these vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Caffeine

The metabolic effects of caffeine include:

–Stimulates the central nervous system
–Releases free fatty acids from adipose (fatty) tissue
–Affects the kidneys by increasing urination, which can lead to dehydration

Caffeine is found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate and some nuts.

The American Heart Association says moderate coffee drinking (1-2 cups per day does not seem to be harmful.

Caffeine withdrawal symptoms may occur 12 to 24 hours after the last dose of caffeine in individuals who are habitual caffeine drinkers. The most prominent symptom is headache. Other withdrawal symptoms may include:

–Anxiety
–Fatigue
–Drowsiness
–Depression

Although many studies show there is a direct link between caffeine, coffee drinking and coronary heart disease, the results are conflicting.

Calcium

To help reduce the risk of developing the bone disease osteoporosis most physicians encourage women to eat fat-free and low-fat dairy products to get calcium.

The American Heart Association recommends women should aim to consume between 1,000 and 1,200 milligrams of calcium each day. Excellent sources of calcium include:

–Fat-free milk
–Low-fat dairy products

Other sources of calcium include:

–Eating vegetable greens like spinach, kale and broccoli
–Some legumes and soybean products

To date, scientists do not have enough information to know if calcium intake affects the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Adequate daily intake according to data from the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine includes:

–210 mg for infants from birth to 6 months, 270 mg for age 6 months to 1 year
–500 mg for children age 1-3; 800 mg for ages 4-8
–1,300 mg for children and adolescents age 9-18
–1,000 mg for adults ages 19-50 (for maximal calcium retention)
–1,200 mg for adults ages 51 and older
–1300 mg for women who are pregnant and under age 19; 1000 mg for pregnant women ages 19-50

Think Samsung 27 HDTV When You Think Affordable

The Samsung 27 HDTV is very affordable. When most people think of HDTV, the first thing that happens is they see dollar signs spinning like a casino slot machine. So many of the top HD sets out there cost thousands of dollars and are steeped in a kind of almost mystical technology that the average person doesn’t understand. But HDTV doesn’t have to break the bank, or the mind. This Samsung 27 HDTV is a great example of that.

The Samsung Tantus TXN2798HF 27″ HD-Ready TV with DynaFlat Screen is one of the top sets on the market. And the price is the best part. Amazon.com is currently selling this very model for only $355.00.

Taking a closer look at this great set, it comes with a full 27 inch HDTV screen that works with both the 480p and 1080i formats. It comes with DVI input so that you can use a DTV receiver if you want. The set measures out at 27 inches wide, 24 inches high and 21 inches deep.

The trademark Samsung Dynaflat HD screen is used with this model and it shows. Even though this is an old fashioned CRT-style set, the display looks great and it essentially flat, not curved like an old style set.

The computer chipset inside this set is the Pro Chip Plus, which changes over normal analog TV signals and shows them at a higher quality. While it can’t make analogue signals look like HDTV, it can make them look better than they would on your old television.

This set puts out some top quality sound, as well. There is a pair of 10-watt speakers plus a hefty 25-watt subwoofer for that natural bass sound that all good sets need.

Last but not least, there is a great picture in picture feature that can be huge when you’re trying to follow two ballgames at once.

If you’re looking for a great HD-ready set that doesn’t break the bank but still gives you your monies worth, you could do a lot worse than this Samsung 27 HDTV. This set is proof you don’t need to take a second mortgage to have a great HD experience at home.

Forms of Treatment for Arthritis

Trying to figure out the best means to relief arthritis pain can be frustrating. You can make your arthritis pain worse with activities stressful to your joints and that require repetitive motion when you already have severe joint damage. If you have only mild joint damage, gentle exercise that includes stretching and muscle strengthening can improve arthritis pain.

Arthritis varies from one person to another. You will need to work with your doctor to determine the right solution and exercise program for your specific situation.

Activities such as jogging and playing tennis that put sudden pressure on involved joints are likely to make the symptoms of arthritis worse. Swelling and inflammation may increase. Exercises that strengthen your muscles protect your joints and reduce stress and joint damage should be of help to arthritis symptoms. Strengthening the muscles on the front and back of your thigh, which are the quadriceps and hamstrings; helps protect your knee and hip joints.

The key is to do what you can to stay physically active while taking into consideration the condition of your joints. You may be able to walk a good 30 to 60 minutes at a comfortable pace, but you probably will have to give up high-impact activities like running that puts a lot of stress on many different joints. Swimming or other water exercise may be a better choice for keeping active until you get toned if your joints are too painful for walking.

People with rheumatoid arthritis often have stiffness after rest. Movement tends to diminish some of the symptoms. If you experience excessive stiffness after sitting for a long time you can try adjusting your sitting position often to help prevent or lessen some of this.

You should call your doctor if new pain or persistent pain lasting more than several days occurs. Arthritis symptoms are often more effectively controlled if caught early. If your symptoms are most likely due to overdoing it and they disappear in a few days you probably do not need to call your doctor.

Medications for arthritis are relatively safe and well tolerated by most people. Keep in mind there is no medication that is completely free of possible side effects. If you experience regular arthritis symptoms you need professional advice from your doctor about which medications to take and how much.

Medications available include:

–Tylenol
–Aspirin
–Ibuprofen
–Advil
–Motrin
–Aleve
–Naproxen
–Other anti-inflammatory drugs

Most of the above drugs can be purchased over-the-counter and many of them do bring relief of minor and occasional arthritis pain.

A weekend tennis player, gardeners and other people with mild osteoarthritis can overcome some of the stiffness by taking an over-the-counter NSAID tablet for one or two days. I experienced some hip pain shortly after beginning a new walking routine. My doctor advised taking Ibuprofen just shortly before each work-out, which did alleviate the pain considerably.

If symptoms are prolonged and severe, joint involvement may be more advanced. Your doctor is the best source to decide the dosage that is right for you.

Alternative treatment for arthritis pain:

Heat, massage and stretching help relieve arthritis symptoms for many people. The best of these treatments should have your doctor or physical therapist’s approval. These treatments have also been standard treatments and not so much “alternative” treatment for arthritis pain.

Many alternative preparations have not been adequately studied. Herbal treatments, for example, taken on a day that you might have felt better anyway, may convince you that the herb made you better. Arthritis treatments studies show as many as 30 percent of people taking an inactive substance improve at least temporarily.

Quality standards for over-the-counter alternative drugs do not exist.

It may take years to find an effective and safe medication for your particular arthritis pain. If you try a shortcut standard practice it may lead to harmful effects and wasted money, time and effort.

Botox Injections:

It is unclear at this time whether or not Botox injections improve pain and function in people with arthritis. Much more research is needed to evaluate the findings of a very small study that suggested injections with Botulinum toxin type A (Botox) may improve pain and function in people with arthritis.

The study reported improvements in pain and function in all participants, however the duration of these benefits varied from three to 12 months. The results were promising and there were no adverse reactions reported. There will need to be much larger, controlled and randomized trials to determine the safety and possible benefit of Botox injections for arthritis.

Antibiotics for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis:

Researchers continue to study the possibility that rheumatoid arthritis may be brought on by some form of infection. If this is true, it may be possible to prevent or stop the progression of the disease with antibiotics. Studies of the usefulness of antibiotic therapy have produced mixed results.

Effects of long-term use of antibiotics are unknown. Antibiotics have many potential side effects, some of which are very serious. More research is needed to determine if antibiotics can be useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Baby Boy Circumcision Considerations

Are you trying to decide whether or not to have your baby boy circumcised? Circumcision is fairly common in the United States. It involves the surgical removal of the skin covering the tip of the penis. For some parents, circumcision is a religious ritual. For other parents circumcision is to help with personal hygiene or preventive health care. Still yet other parents feel the procedure seems unnecessary.

In this article, review the pros and cons of having your baby boy circumcised. There are benefits and negatives to the procedure. The American Academy of Pediatrics says the benefits are not strong enough to recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns. The decision is left up to the parents. They also support use of pain relief for infants who have the procedure.
The benefits of circumcision may include:

–Easier hygiene: Circumcision may make it easier to wash the penis. It is simple to clean an uncircumcised penis as well.
–Decreased risk of urinary tract infections: Risk of urinary tract infections in the first year may be decreased. Urinary tract infections may be up to 10 times as common in uncircumcised baby boys. Severe urinary tract infections early in life can lead to kidney problems later on.
–Decreased risk of penile cancer: Cancer of the penis is very rare. It is less common in circumcised men.
–Decreased risk of sexually transmitted diseases: Circumcised men may have a slightly lower risk of certain sexually transmitted diseases that includes HIV which causes AIDS, and HPV which causes genital warts.

The negatives of circumcision may include:
–Surgical risks: Excessive bleeding and infection are uncommon, but possible. Foreskin may be cut too short or too long to heal properly. Sometimes the remaining foreskin reattaches to the end of the penis and minor surgery may be needed to correct it.
–Pain: Circumcision is painful. Local anesthesia blocks nerve sensations during the procedure.
–Permanence: After the circumcision it may be impossible to re-create the appearance of an uncircumcised penis
–Expense: Insurance companies may not cover the cost of circumcision.

Circumcision care:

It takes about seven to 10 days for the penis to heal. There may be a noticeable yellowish mucus or crust. A small amount of bleeding is common the first day or two. Daily care includes:

–Washing the penis as it heals
–Change the bandage with each diaper change
–Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the tip of the penis so it won’t stick to baby’s diaper.

Although problems after circumcision are rare, you should call your doctor if:

–Baby does not urinate normally within six to eight hours after the circumcision
–Persistent bleeding or redness around the tip of the penis
–Tip of penis is swollen
–You suspect an infection. An infection may manifest as a foul-smelling drainage from the tip of the penis, or crusted sores filled with fluid.

Requirements Matrix - A Necessary Evil

A Requirements Matrix is an essential step in any proposal you write. A lot of people tend to skip it, but if you want to correctly begin the proposal writing process, you should be careful not to be one of those that do. I will explain to you what a Requirements Matrix is, what it’s used for, and how to create one yourself.

1. What is a Requirements Matrix? A Requirements Matrix is a formatted list of all a proposal’s requirements, their location in the guidelines (e.g., Request for Proposal (RFP), Statement of Work, etc.), the individual or team tasked to complete the requirement, and when it is due.

2. What is a Requirements Matrix used for? It is useful to

* Keep a snapshot of all the requirements.

* A good reference after writing the proposal so you can check that you have addressed all of the requirements.

3. How do I create a Requirements Matrix? It is best to separate the requirements by categories. You can add your own categories, but the usual ones are Administrative, Objective, and Technical. After separating them by categories, you should have the following headers:

o Requirement

o Section #

o Response

o Response pg #

o Assigned to

o Due Date

Here is a sample of a Requirements Matrix: Note: Scroll down if unable to view.

Requirements

Section # -Response-Response pg # -Assigned To -Due Date
Administrative Requirements - - - - -
Due Date -6- - -Team-xx/xx/xxxx
Submit By -6- - -Individual-xx/xx/xxxx
Place of Perf -7- - -Team-xx/xx/xxxx
Period of Perf-8- - -Individual-xx/xx/xxxx
Renewable-8- - -Team-xx/xx/xxxx
Packaging & Shipping Info -12

Objective Requirements- - - - -
Computer Support & Planning -15- - - -
Compliance with Policies -15- - - -
Training-15

Technical Requirements- - - - -
Provide Backup Assistance - - - - -
Provide Off Hours Coverage- - - - -
Propose Timely Solutions

A good Requirements Matrix takes practice, but when you get it right, it could save you losing a proposal. If you miss a requirements, even a miniscule ones, your proposal could be labeled “non-compliant.”

Therefore, take an hour to create yourself using a spreadsheet program. One hour can save you tons.

Making Money With Adsense is Very Possible

Webmasters looking for ways to earn extra money from their sites can add Google ads. All you need to is sign up for a Google Adsense account and add a simple code on your site pages. Google Adsense will then run ads on your site that is relevant to your content.

It is possible for webmasters to earn a living from Adsense. It may seem difficult, but it is not impossible.

If you are interested in making Google Adsense your only source of income you do will need to do more than just adding the code to your site. There is experimenting with placements, formats and choice of keywords. Placing the code will earn a webmaster a few extra dollars, but earning a living will require more work on the part of the webmaster.

If you are building sites especially to earn the Google Adsense income you really should build your pages around a specific topic or keyword that is relevant to your site content. This helps Adsense ads to display appropriately on your pages to ensure visitors who want to know more about your topic will more likely end up clicking on the Adsense ad.

Placement of ads can be important. Studies consistently show a visitor often first look to the top left of a website when they first arrive. This could be one of the most important places to place your Google ads. Inside the Google blog is a wealth of information about ad placement and other topics concerning how best to use the Google Adsense Program.

You should place your Google ad code on pages of high traffic, which means you, will need to know which of your website pages receives the most traffic. You can get a page by page detail report of your visitor activity by looking at logs inside your Google account.

It is helpful to blend your Adsense ads into your web pages so that they appear to be part of your content. Inside your Google account you will find a variety of palettes which allow you to change font color, border color and backgrounds. The most important thing here is blending the ads in with the colors and content of your site pages. Use the preview tool provided inside your Adsense account to get an idea of what the ad will look like on your site.

You will find a wealth of helpful information about optimizing your site’s pages inside the Google blog.

Review the following tips to improve your Adsense earnings:

–Try using the large rectangle (336 X 280) wherever you can on your web pages. Some studies show this format has the tendency to result in a higher click through rate. The ads look like normal web links. People seem to be use to clicking on normal web links and will usually click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on “your” Adsense.
–Choose your colors to match the colors in your website
–Keep Adsense ads at least on top of your pages, and not at the main bottom
–A time saver for you when building your pages is to automate the Adsense code so it shows up on every page automatically

Car Price Negotiation

It can be a horrible task negotiating to buy a new car, nobody likes doing it because it’s so time consuming, stressful and frustrating! Very few people actually like sales people, but it’s pretty easy to work out exactly what you should do. You need to research the background information so that you can get a fair price when buying your new car.

Research what the price of the car originally was when it first came out. You should use this to work out the dealer cost, which is the cost of the car when the dealer brought it from the manufacturer. This cost is made up of the dealer invoice, and the holdback.

The dealer invoice is the actual cost that the dealer pays for the car. There are many different online resources like the Kelly Blue Book, and Edmunds all of which can provide very useful information on the dealer invoices.

The holdback is the rebate that the manufacturer pays the dealer when the car is sold. The rebates will depend on the make and model of the car; it’s normally around 2-3% of the total value of the car. You should subtract this holdback from the costs to work out the actual cost of the car to the dealer.

Now you should calculate any hidden incentives that the dealer has. It can be difficult to know about the dealer incentives. If you are aware of any of the hidden incentives then you can talk about them during the negotiation.

Dealers seem to ask about $5000 more than they originally paid for the car, they do have to take their cut out of this, but even so $5000 is a little steep! Use the popular automotive websites and research exactly how much it costs, this figure will be very useful when negotiating.

Now you’re ready to propose your offer to the dealer, this is always a difficult situation and it can be made worse by your financial position. You should try to start at about $4000 less than the price advertised. Few dealers will listen to this, but let them raise your price a little, but it they still don’t want to sell it at that price then move on.

Some sales people have to go to their managers to ask permission about a certain price. This is just a sales tactic. Make them aware that you only want to talk to one person about your offer.

Many garages also make you wait for a very long time before they will actually tell you their final decision. If you’re not aware of this then it can catch you out. Make sure you’re prepared for a long wait; in fact try taking some reading material!

Sometimes dealers have a sneaky habit of advertising a very low price, and when you actually get there they raise the price. They can do this by adding on lots of extras, or just being unreasonable. Never accept this, no matter how small the price rise is.

It is not possible to negotiate on all cars; if they are more popular then it is much more difficult to get a discount. If you have tried a number of different dealers, but still get the same price, then you might as well go for it.

Dennis runs Car Dealer Check which has independent Car Dealer Reviews written by the car dealerships customers and information on Car Dealer Scams.

Debt- The Plight of the Baby Boomer Generation

In his book, The Cashflow Quadrant, Robert Kiyosaki says “The more people you are indebted to, the poorer you are”. I also agree with this philosophy. In fact, when speaking to groups or consulting clients, my attitude always changes when we start to focus on debt management. I am tough on debt, and I believe everyone who strives for financial freedom should be too.

There are several reasons why debt is such a problem in society today. In the 1970s, banks started issuing credit cards. When they first came out, your bank just sent you one. No application forms, no credit checks, nothing - they simply sent them out in the mail. As long as you had an account, you were eligible for a credit card. Easy money. Or so it seemed.

In the 1980s, credit cards were still very easy to obtain. More and more organizations and institutions started issuing them. Store cards, dining out cards, cards for travel. Visa, Mastercard, Bankcard. The list was endless. Although it was customary to have a cursory credit check, you would have had to been guilty of robbing the Bank of England before your credit was denied. If you missed a monthly payment, no one cared. The only important thing was that you had a wallet bulging with credit cards.

And so began the demise of our debt-ridden society. Easy cash. Easy credit. Won’t worry about now, I’ll worry about it later.

Fortunately, the severe recession of the early 1990s put an end to slapdash credit checking. The banks had lost too much money and they had to pull in the reins. However, after 20 years conditioning, society was still tied to its credit card apron strings. Credit cards were always very expensive debt. But despite having to pay between 15% to 20% interest, most people still preferred to take the easy way out.

Another reason for our escalating debt is our post-war baby-boomer society. Our parents or grandparents, who lived through two world wars and the Great Depression, knew the meaning of managing money. Not that I advocate hardship but the baby-boomers did grow up a little spoilt. Our now-now-now attitude makes most of us act like naughty little children let lose in the candy store. So many wonderful, shinning new toys - videos, DVDs, microwave ovens, dishwashers, brand-spanking new cars - and not enough time to save for them.

We have forgotten the meaning of necessity. Our post-war generations have grown more and more materialistic, and less and less patient. Our grandparents knew that if they wanted something new, they had to save up for it first. Today’s buy-now-pay-later society has forgotten these rules - and the result is escalating debt.

More than ever before, we have the ability to earn a lot of money. There are more middle-income earners now than previous generations, but the wealth distribution stays about the same. The more we try to live above our means and buy things we cannot afford, the deeper we dig our debt-ridden ditches.

In order to eliminate this insidious financial trap from our lives, we can take a few small steps to successfully manage and reduce our debt.

Rules for Managing Debt:

–Make a commitment to eliminate your debt.

–Stop buying things you cannot afford. Remember, if you have to borrow for it, you cannot afford it.

–If you cannot manage the temptation of shopping with credit cards, please stop using them. Use cash instead. It is far more finite and controllable.

–If you absolutely have to have a credit card, just have one - with a limit of no more than $1,000 to $5,000.

–If you are prepared to use credit cards, set a budget for what expenditure you will use your cards for, and manage them on a month to month basis.

–Always pay off credit card debt first. This is usually the most expensive with interest rates of up to 20% per annum. Pay off your debts in order of cost. The higher the interest rates, the more costly the debt.

–Eliminate wastage and extravagance by always asking yourself before you buy anything, “Do I absolutely need this?” You may find after awhile that the real answer is often “No”.

–Remind yourself, that any hardship you may experience now is only short-term. The time will soon pass and ultimately you will be grateful. The discipline you exert now will mean extra dollars in the bank later.
