The Secret To Dog Training With A Head Collar

When dog training with a head collar, keep in mind that while there are some great advantages in using this type of collar, there are also a couple of disadvantages you need to be aware of.

Is A Head Collar A Muzzle?

This is a misconception which needs to be addressed. No, it\’s not a muzzle for the simple reason that a dog still has movement of it\’s mouth.

Educating yourself on the proper use of a head collar for dog training purposes will reward you in the long run. Attempting to use it as a muzzle is can backfire on you big time and mis-information on how to use it is a problem you don\’t want to fall into.

Advantages Of A Head Collar

There are several advantages in dog training with a head collar. Here are just a few:

- Very easy to use once you understand their correct application and why you are using it.

- Dog training with a head collar will yield you more of the results you are after. They are much kinder to the animal than a choker collar which has copped criticism in the past.

- It has the ability to deter the animal from the bane of many trainers; an enthusiastic canine who has a penchant for tugging hard at a lead. It will preserve unnecessary strain on your arms.

- In dog training where you need to stir the animal so you can apply some disciplinary action, this equipment is ideal.

- You as the trainer, will have more control over the animal. If your dog is a large and powerful canine then this type of head gear is effective in helping you maintain a strong control over your animal.

- In situations where the dog is faced with several distractions and prone to reacting to them then the head collar will be your biggest ally. For example, heavily populated areas with lots of people can excite most canines but this gear will help you maintain control.

Disadvantages Of A Head Collar

There are a couple of main disadvantages dog training with a head collar although when you are aware of these, they can easily be avoided.

One of these is the dog can be lured into a false sense of relying on it to tell it when to behave. This can be a problem because when it reverts back to a traditional collar it will switch back to unacceptable behavior.

The other problem of course is getting the dog to accept it. Just like putting a jacket on a canine for the first time many will react by trying to get the thing off. The same situation can face a trainer when putting a head collar on for the first time.

The easiest way to get around this is to simply distract the dog from the collar and you do this by keeping the dog on the move.

Are You Stuck in Divorce Indecision?

Are you stuck in divorce indecision and feeling lost, confused and as if your life is falling apart right in front of your eyes? I was there too, and not only survived the ordeal, but was stronger having lived through it.

I\’ve never been accused of being overly sympathetic to those people suffering from chronic misfortunate in their lives because I believe we manifest the majority of the bad luck we encounter by our very own destructive thought patterns.

Divorce, however, is complicated because it involves two human beings and one of them is usually much more at fault than the other. The problem is, that fact really doesn\’t matter because both of you are going to suffer the consequences of divorce and it\’s generally the party with the “best” lawyer, and I use that term lightly, who comes out with fewer emotional and financial bruises.

If I were to have done things differently when I was making my decision on whether or not my relationship was truly over and if I should file for divorce or not, it would have been to hire a professional counselor to guide me through the transition.

I made a lot of financial mistakes because of emotions, ignorance and indecisions. A counselor will work with you one on one, really listening and evaluating everything you say in order to offer you constructive feed back and guidance. They are knowledgeable in divorce proceedings as well as possible relationship remedies you may not have been aware of.

I, myself, would still have pursued divorce but I would have tried to convince my ex-husband to use divorce mediation instead of hiring divorce attorneys. Ending a twelve year marriage was sad, but the financial devastation both myself and my ex experienced at the hands of self serving attorneys and unnecessary judicial proceedings, magnified our misery a hundred fold and shaped our barren financial landscape well into the future.

Right now I\’m sure most of the people reading this article are feeling one of two ways:

One, your unhappy in your current relationship and are seriously considering whether you should stay and work things out or whether you should go ahead and call it quits.

Or Two, you have already made the decision to end your marriage and want some type of confirmation that you have made the right decision

A professional counselor can certainly help you with both of these questions, but at $75-$100 dollars per session, it certainly isn\’t cheap. Throw in the fact that if you are like most couples in unhappy relationships, money is most likely what you fight about and is often the cause of your marital unhappiness, it\’s likely you simply can not afford the $300-$600 per month this could end up costing you anyway.

It is difficult to put a price on happiness or to even make an accurate guess as to how much a counselor could save you in the end, but if she does nothing more than convince the two of you to seek divorce mediation, you\’ll be thousands of dollars ahead in saved attorney\’s fees alone. The devastating financial cost of a divorce is usually why the majority of them turn so ugly and the two parties resent each other for years to come…sometimes at the expense of your children. There is another option…

Nature And Science Lovers Have Other Options Besides The Science Channel and Animal Planet

PBS has some of the best science and nature programs. Nature is so full of beauty and information that I learn something new from every episode. This is it\’s twenty-sixth season, so it has to be great to last that long. The awards for this show would fill a gymnasium.

The last program I watched (last Sunday) was about the parrots of Australia. I was also reading a novel that took place in Australia at the time. The Nature program had so many fascinating species and behaviors that I look forward to it being shown again. When I started reading the book again it referred to the huge wild parrot population of Australia. The program enriched the book. Some of my favorite Nature programs were about the oceans. But I\’ve never watched one that didn\’t fascinate me.

Alan Alda adds humor and a willingness to participate on Scientific American Frontiers. The subjects cover every aspect of science including global warming, animal intelligence, amazing cars and fuels, past and present submarines, slimming with surgery, robots, and the list goes on with every new program.

Nova is another big award winner. It is a science documentary series that often include history. It, too, covers a wide topic area including health, anthropology, space, disasters, technology and nature. My favorite episode was “Can Chimps Talk?” Years ago I remember watching Washo, the first signing chimp. From later programs on PBS I learned about Koko, the signing gorilla. I\’ve kept up with her for years. She has been on the cover of “National Geographic” twice. Her trainer, Dr. Penny Patterson, wrote two children\’s books about her and she has her own site:

http://www.koko.org/index.php

Science is a part of many other programs on PBS, including Weird Science. It\’s an educational program for children, but adults will find it fascinating, too.

6 Steps to Getting Your Book Published

Before starting your book proposal, make sure that you have a strong book concept, an interesting approach and a catchy title.

Clearly identify your market, your niche, and understand what your proposal is intended to achieve. Make sure that your book is of the best quality:

that it is interesting, well written, and filled with information that will really help readers.

*** 6 Action Steps****

1. Be honest. Does the world need another book on your topic? Check bookstores and get in the know about what books exist.

If you think that your book is better and brighter, then perhaps it\’s meant to be.

2. Don\’t let anyone talk you out of your dream. If you believe in your idea and it does not exist, then don\’t postpone success.

Many agents have turned down ideas and said, “It\’s just a magazine article,” but those ideas sold.

3. Search online. Search everywhere. Talk to bookstore owners; see what\’s out there. Study your competition.

Learn what other authors have done. Were their books successful?

4. Research your book\’s title. You might be surprised to find that your title already exists. Was it on your topic?

The same title could be used for a book for kids and one about pets. Don\’t rule out a great title, but make sure that your book won\’t be confused with or be considered derivative to another book unless that\’s your intent.

5. Create an outline. Outline your book and see if you are still glued to the project after you set up what your chapters are about, etc. Sometimes people discover they really don\’t have a great deal to say, whereas others find the proof in the outline.

6. Write a Dear Reader letter. Try this assignment: write a letter to your reader and state what you plan to deliver in your book. It\’s a promise to the reader. You\’ll know after writing this letter and sharing it with others if there\’s a burning passion in you to write this book.

Then, keep your promise!

Law of Attraction - 3 Ways to Manifest Money Now

1.) Allow the law of attraction to move your desires faster by first allowing yourself to be grateful for where you presently are. Wherever you are financially you can begin to shift it by seeing the life lesson in your present situation. Being grateful isn\’t about positive thoughts it\’s about releasing your grip on what you think is wrong or bad.

You cannot attract new conditions while you are resisting your present situation. What you resist persist. What you resist has its basis in strong emotions of fear and doubt and the more you feel angry about your present conditions the more you lock yourself into that situation and the law of attraction sees to it that you get more of what you are resisting.

2.) Move beyond your need for money. If you take the time you will realize that all of what you think of as a need is really just a want this realization will change your connection with money. The only thing you ever really need is food, warm clothes and sheltering. Everything else is a want. As you release your need for more stuff you can free up your spending. Suddenly you will realize how much more money you already do have.

It\’s important that you learn to not need. To need more money means that you are communicating to the universe that you do not already have. The law of attraction is very tricky. You can only attract what you already have. The more you realize that you already have the more the law of attraction will bring to you. And, the more the law of attraction will bring to you the more it will confirm to you that you already have. The cycle continues in this way.

You can only attract what you first become and you attract more of what you already have. You can begin by first being simple by reducing your needs. Don\’t be needy about anything or the law of attraction will give you more situations to feel needy.

You attract more of what you are thinking and feeling.

3.) Study the nature of money and have fun making it. When your needs are reduced you can easily learn to understand the nature of money and how to make it without feeling pressure. Money is easy to make once you get out of the need for it. Allow yourself to become away of the physical nature as well as the spiritual nature of money and how it flows with the law of attraction. It does not always require you to repeat mindless affirmations. There is a science to the flow of money that few understand. As you learn it you will become a master of money.

Do you know that there are ancient techniques that can increase your manifesting intentions and attract what you want even faster than ever? Visit http://www.cosmic-wealth.com/lawofattraction to learn more about these secrets teachings. Daniel Hinds is the author of the powerful ebook Magic Money.

The Seaside Resorts of Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca

Located on the Orihuela Costa coastline some 20 kilometres away from the town of Orihuela itself you will find two wonderful seaside resorts which are very popular with holidaymakers visiting this part of south-eastern Spain. These fine resorts are known as Playa Flamenca and Punta Prima.

The lovely town of Punta Prima, recognisable mostly by the tall water tower located on the N-332 coast road, and it is here that 3 rival car boot sales (rastros) are held every Sunday attracting people from all along the coast. Punta Prima also has a fine beach and this is backed by an attractive row of huge palm trees, one of the famous landmarks for this part of the coast. A large new development is currently under construction in Punta Prima, together with a new commercial centre further improving the facilities available to visitors. Just a short drive from Punta Prima finds you in the busy town of Torrevieja with its famous water park (Aquopolis) and its fantastic marina and promenade.

A little south of Punta Prima the resort known as Playa Flamenca was, up until the 1970\’s just a stretch of bare but attractive coastline with no development whatsoever. Situated just south of the busy town of Torrevieja, it attracted the attention of a number of Flemish property investors in around 1972 and they thought that it would have a great deal of potential as a holiday resort. It was from this time onwards that the resort began to grow and develop into the popular destination that it is today.

Playa Flamenca has become very popular with foreign buyers looking to buy holiday property in Spain and those who invested back in the 1980\’s have made a good return on their investment. Playa Flamenca now has a good range of facilities and a wonderful sandy beach where holidaymakers can enjoy the 300 days of sunshine which the town boasts every year. For evening entertainment, most will head for the Flamenca beach commercial centre where they will find countless shops, bars and restaurants with plenty of live entertainment, bingo, quiz nights, karaoke etc. On Saturdays, a large number of people head for the busy street market in Playa Flamenca where hundreds of stalls sell a wide variety of local goods, fruit and vegetables and high quality leather goods.

To the south of Playa Flamenca and Punta Prima you will find more excellent resorts including La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campaomor, and further south still the towns of Pilar de la Horadada and San pedro del Pinatar.

Pilar de la Horadada - Built around an ancient watchtower that has stood since the 14th Century, Pilar de la Horadada (\’The Drilled One\’) is the southernmost coastal resort of the Costa Blanca. To the south lies the Mar Menor (\’Lesser Sea\’) and the Costa Calida (\’Warm Coast\’). The watchtower, similar to many others along the coast, was built to warn of attacks from Berber pirates who sailed this coastline many centuries ago. Today a popular seaside town with fine sandy beaches, Pilar de la Horadada is also a great area for nature lovers and the nearby Rio Seco (\’Dry River\’), boasts a wide variety of flora and fauna including some species of wild orchid and some endangered species of dwarf palms. San Pedro del Pinatar (St Peter of the Pinewoods) also has a history going back to the Arab occupation and has some fine sandy beaches.

If you are travelling to south-eastern Spain in the near future be sure to visit Playa Flamenca and Punta Prima.

Summer Reading for Preschoolers - Getting a Jump Start on Kindergarten

Kindergarten teachers can easily spot children who have been read to. They are the ones who can hold a book properly, turn the pages working front to back, and who are aware of the directional flow of words. Summer reading offers a perfect opportunity for parents to facilitate many pre-literacy skills needed for school. By following a few simple steps, parents can make summer reading a stepping stone for literacy success in kindergarten and beyond.

The first step is book selection. Children love to go to the library, and this makes for a cool summer outing, literally. Escort your child to the “early readers” and let him choose some books of interest. You certainly want your child to be excited about what he\’s reading! If you have any trouble finding books on a particular topic, the children\’s librarian is typically happy to offer guidance.

The next step is to make reading time a fun, interactive experience while simultaneously encouraging vocabulary growth, language growth, and comprehension. This can be accomplished by first asking your child to look at the illustrations on the front and back of the book and then to describe what she thinks it is about. Continue with a “picture walk through” wherein you and your child take turns discussing what you see on each page and how the characters may be feeling. As you read, talk about any words she may not be familiar with. Before turning from one page to the next, sometimes ask her what she thinks may happen next. During all the above interactions, expand on what she says, using more complex language forms. For example, if she says, “The dog is here,” you can then say, “Yes, the dog is sitting and waiting for his bone.” Finally, revise your child\’s language when grammatical errors are made. These storybook-reading interactions go beyond simply reading words on a page and allow your child to increase her vocabulary, expand her knowledge of language, and employ critical thinking skills. All are important foundations to early literacy success.

The last step for summer reading is optional, but may prove to be invaluable to your child as he approaches his kindergarten year. In addition to his book choices, consider sprinkling in books that have a theme of cooperation, fairness, sharing, respect, or compassion, to name a few. An assortment can be found by searching under “themed books for preschoolers” on the Internet. These books can provide you with a forum to discuss with your child attributes needed to develop positive relationships with teachers and peers. Look at it as addressing a new and critical R for school–Relationship building!

Summer reading with your preschooler can be a great source of enjoyment that presents opportunities for growth in literacy as well. With a little planning, it can also contribute to preparing your child socially for the demands of school. As the days grow longer, take time to pour over a few books with your child, and in the process get her on an early tract toward success in kindergarten.

College Students Food Allergies Dorms

When you child goes off to college there are many things that you will be stressed about such as the fact that they will no longer be near you. Many mothers experience the “empty nest syndrome” as a result of their children leaving home and having their own lives. Of course I should say that fathers experience the same loss, but perhaps they tend to hide it better. One of the things a parent doesn\’t want to worry about is their children and food allergies as they head off to the dorms. With college students food allergies that live in dorms it can be a very difficult time for the parents to feel less stressed. First of all, of course, the young adult heading off to the dorm should be aware of what they can and cannot eat, but if you have ever been to college you know there are definitely times where a college student doesn\’t pay as much attention to certain things as they should.

Here is an example: a college student with food allergies goes to live in the dorms. The university doesn\’t supply kitchens in the dorms, except for a tiny community kitchen, so the student tends to eat on campus. Of course the on campus cafeteria uses a lot of the ingredients the college student is allergic to. This means that the student tends to just pick up the same meal every day because they know it is safe. Well a few months later they are having a reaction to the food they have been eating. This is because the college students food allergies in the dorms are getting worse. The person has been susceptible to multiple allergies to begin with, but without mom to take proper care and to see to a rotation diet the student has been eating the same foods.

This is a dangerous example and rare, but it is important to understand. You see for those who are prone to multiple food allergies it can be very easy to develop a new allergy later on in their lives. This is because there are too many of the allergens or antibodies in the system for the immune system to deal with. In this case the body begins to show a reaction as it tries to break down these foods. So for college students with food allergies in dorms it is important that the student take the proper time to eat and stick with a rotation diet.

Create Direct Mail Envelopes That People Want to Rip Open

The envelope is the Rodney Dangerfield of direct mail. It just doesn\’t get any respect.

After all, the purpose of a direct mail envelope is not to position your product. Its job is not to entertain or amuse. It\’s not chatty like a letter or impressive like a brochure. Aside from holding together the contents until delivered, an envelope\’s job is to get ripped open.

Ironically, the lowly envelope is arguably the single most important part of any direct mail package because it absolutely must get opened. And opened right now! Otherwise, all the more respectable pieces inside are just so much wasted paper.

So here are a few ideas to get your envelopes ripped to shreds:

  • Follow headline rules to write teaser copy. You can generate interest with a provocative statement, provoke curiosity with a question or incomplete sentence, or state a problem on the envelope and suggest that the solution is inside. Teaser copy acts like a headline to draw people in.
  • Use teaser copy to select your audience. It should be clear at a glance that your message is addressed specifically to your reader. Use key words that relate to your ideal prospect\’s interests or identity, such as “Exclusive offer for golfers inside” or “For Serious Investors Only.”
  • Refer to the contents of the envelope. Tell your reader there\’s something free, valuable, new, or exclusive inside. If you\’ve actually enclosed something, such as a sample, booklet, checklist, discount coupon, how-to guide, or newsletter, say so.
  • Use directive language. You can prompt your reader to open the envelope with simple copy such as “INSIDE,” “See inside,” or “Open immediately.” Combine this with a benefit to jumpstart your sales message. “FREE Recipes! Look inside …” or “How to pay $0 in taxes! See inside for details ….”
  • Fully develop your envelope real estate. If you have a flashy, desirable product, you can crank up the excitement by using every square inch of your envelope, front and back. Show the product. Bullet point benefits. Starburst your special price. Hint at a special gift for immediate orders. This works best for consumer offers that are proven sellers needing little explanation, such as books, software upgrades, fact-packed newsletters, etc. But it can work with virtually anything.
  • Use illustrations or photos. If you\’re spilling your guts on the envelope, you might as well go all the way and show your product, premium, or gift. Simple pictures communicate instantly. A photo of a book with the word “FREE” next to it is better than lines and lines of clever copy.
  • Consider involvement devices. Stickers, tokens, stamps, coins, scratch-offs, lift-up tabs, attached notes, seals, and other widgets can be used to good effect if you have the budget, if they can boost response enough to justify the added cost, and if they fit the feel of your message.
  • Put your deadline on the outside. Inertia is your enemy. Action is your friend. Deadlines induce action. Therefore, if you\’re sure about your mailing date, a deadline can prevent people from setting aside your envelope for later. If you\’re using a window envelope and personalized letter, you can cut costs by printing the date on the letter so that it shows through the window.
  • If you\’re mailing to a business, try a low-key approach. Most business-to-business mail is intercepted by a secretary, assistant, or mailroom. If it looks too much like advertising, it may get trashed. So you often stand a better chance of reaching your prospect if your envelope looks personal, important, and businesslike. Less can also be more for offers that may meet some resistance at first glance and require more selling, which is best done in a letter.
  • If you use a blank envelope, make it completely blank. Not a single word of teaser copy. No graphics. Perhaps not even your logo. Just a return address and your delivery address. You might include the letter signer\’s name along with the return address, particularly if that person is well-known. This makes your envelope look personal and is almost certain to get opened.
  • Be careful with official-looking envelopes. Faux express envelopes, government notices, invoices, and other formats can be used to great effect. However, be clear about your intentions. If it\’s just part of the theme of your message, and people are clear about who you are and what you want, that\’s fine. If you\’re trying to trick people or pose as something you\’re not, that\’s unethical. If you have to deceive people to get response, there\’s something wrong with your product or service.

Cutting Back For Retirement Years

Probably to your kids, the house you raised them in will forever to your home and the idea of anyone else living in it is heresy of the worst kind. But as you begin to move toward retirement age, you may see the value in selling that home and getting into something smaller, cozier and with less overhead.

Retirement doesn\’t always mean moving into a nursing home or retirement center. You may have many happy years ahead of you where you are plenty able to get around and have no need of “assisted living”. But selling the house as you enter into your retirement years makes a lot of sense for a lot of good reasons.

For one thing, you may have that house paid off and there may be a lot of equity in that home that you can use to get into a cozy little condo or apartment and have plenty of money left over to pad your retirement savings or afford a bit of travel with your spouse. If your home can finance some of the trips you have been dreaming of all these years, that is a good payback for being so careful with your money during your working years.

You can take a one time tax exemption that we all are allowed to use which permits you to sell the house and not have to pay taxes on the proceeds even if you don\’t sink the money into another house. That means that all of that equity money is sitting there waiting for you to put it to work. While you cannot sell your memories, if the house isn\’t serving your needs as a family any more, why bother with it?

Many times when you get done raising the kids and no longer are tied down to a job, it might be time for you and your spouse to get out there and enjoy life and travel. Retirement is often a time to get rid of a lot of your material possessions and get lose to get out and enjoy your freedom and see some of the world that you couldn\’t do when you were raising children. But if you live in a small place that is not difficult to lock up and walk away from, you have the freedom that you always dreamed of when you thought of the word “retirement”.

Another great reason to get out of your house as you move toward retirement is that a house with a yard and all of the other trappings of ownership is a constant ownership problem. You are responsible to fix the fence, get the plumbing fixed, grow a yard, a garden and keep up the house year in and year out. If you sell the place and rent or move into a smaller place such as a condo, a huge amount of that maintenance if not all of it disappears. Now when the appliances break down, just call “the super” and let them deal with it. You deserve to have those worries taken off of your back. That is what retirement is all about.

So getting rid of the homestead might be a great idea for your retirement planning. But be prepared for the move and the work that getting the old place ready will entail. You didn\’t clutter that place up in a week and you won\’t get out of it that fast either. But by going through your stuff and streamlining your life now, that is something your kids won\’t have to do later. And when you are moved out and another young family is getting started in your old homestead, you can congratulate yourself on a great move to put yourself in a perfect place to enjoy a happy and fun retirement with the love of your life.
