Some Things Quirky Cats May Do

Chances are, almost every cat has its quirks. These odd, sometimes puzzling behaviors are more than just personality traits. They are part and parcel of the subtle, yet hard to define aspects of cats being themselves. When it comes to quirky cats, you may notice any number of peculiar activities that make them appear almost human.

If you are fortunate enough to have watch a mother cat raise her kittens, you may see some of the finest examples of quirky cats behavior. This may include a tendency to see the cat family sit in a circle, and paw at the air together. One must wonder just what is going through their quirky little minds. If you are careful in how you watch adult quirky cats, you may also see them sit up on their haunches and paw at the air. Considering they are cats, it should come as no surprise that they prefer to keep these activities private.

There is no question that feral felines have numerous games they play with their prey. Quirky cats are no different in this tendency. One of the most fascinating things they might do after killing their prey is to simply sit there and meow over it. Without a question, until you\’ve seen a cat singing to a supper it caught by itself, you won\’t believe this is yet another example of the things quirky cats will do.

Quirky cats are also known to sleep in the strangest places. They have unerring noses and almost paranormal abilities when it comes to finding and getting into a hamper or drawer full of clean laundry. If you always thought cats were fastidious on themselves, they are just as fussy about where they sleep. While sleeping in your clean laundry may make perfect sense in cat think, no doubt you will find it “quirky”.

As someone who has been owned by quirky cats for many years, I can personally tell you that no two cats will share the exact same traits. If you let them roam freely in the home, they will do everything from sleep on you at night, to park on your keyboard while you are trying to type. Oddly enough, in some cultures, if a cat chooses to lay on a part of your body that hurts, they say the cat will help relieve the pain. Unfortunately, when a cat decides to commandeer your computer, the results are not always as positive.

Many times quirky cats function as incredible burglar and fire alarms. As nocturnal animals, they are most often awake, or at least alert while you are sound asleep. From ancient times to modern, there are many instances of cats finding ways to wake their owners up and warn them of fires, and other dangerous situations.

Even though you may think your cat\’s behavior is quirky or strange, chances are it has a very practical purpose. While we may not understand why quirky cats paw the air and sing to deceased prey, it must have some meaning to them. Cats will also do what they can to assist their keepers. This includes showing up for a good scratch behind their ears and purring when you are stressed out; and perhaps even curing some aches and pains when they decide to sleep on you instead of your clean laundry.

Advantages of Having a Secured Loan

Many people in the UK today are benefiting from secured loans instead of the previous favourite, unsecured loans. Naturally, there are quite a number of benefits by obtaining a secured loan as opposed to an unsecured one. First, a secured loan is the simplest to apply for as the lender is issuing the loan against a property or an asset. It means a lower degree of risks for the lender, making the loan application process even simpler and prompt.

By applying for a secured loan, you do not even have to worry about additional arrangement costs that are so much a part and parcel of unsecured loans. Secured loans are acknowledged as one of the most effective ways of consolidating all your debts, whereby one can manage each aspect of credit in a few simple steps.

Secured loans also offer you a greater degree of relaxation when it comes to choosing your loan term or repayment schemes. Not only can you borrow against the equity on your property, but you can also decide the repayment term as par your convenience and needs. You also get the option of protecting your repayments against accidents, illness or unemployment in case you miss a repayment due to some unforeseen circumstances in life.

Science Project Idea To Make A Balloon Rocket

Make a balloon rocket for your next science fair project using your own air as the energy.

Here are the materials you need to get to complete this project:

  • Fishing line about 30-50 ft.
  • A bag of various size balloons. You can get these at a dollar store
  • A straw
  • Tape
  • 2 chairs or something you can tie the fishing line to such as two poles about 10 to 15 ft apart from each other

The instructions for this project are pretty simple but they show a great deal of physics and energy.

Take one of your balloons and blow it up. Do not tie it but pinch off the end and while it is blown up tape the straw to the side of the balloon. You will probably want to secure it in several places to make sure it will stay.

Let the air out of the balloon slowly. You do not want to make the straw fall off.

Now place your chairs with the backs facing each other about 10 to 15 feet apart.

Thread the fishing line through the straw and then take the monofilament thread and tie it around the back of the chairs. You will want this to be very tight so the line does not sag. You may also want to tie a knot that you can easily untie and retie again and again. Now you will want to make sure there is your balloon with a loop of fishing line wrapped around two chairs or poles.

Blow up the balloon and pinch the end again so no air escapes. If you have a balloon pump this works wonders. You can also get these at a local dollar store. They usually come in a package with long skinny balloons to make shaped animals. Pull your balloon rocket to one side of a chair. The end you are pinching closed should be closest to the chair.

Release your fingers and watch your balloon rocket to the other side.

How far did your balloon travel?

You will want to graph this on paper. Measure the length the balloon traveled. Now get a different size balloon and do the same thing. You will want to test different size and shape balloons to see if a certain size or shape is more effective at propelling the rocket farther.

Also you will want to try only blowing the balloon up half full and see what that does.

So how can you explain this as a science project? This is physics. The law states with every action there is an opposite reaction. So the air releasing from one end forcefully cause an opposite reaction by pushing the balloon matter the different direction. Your air blown into the balloon was energy to fuel the rocket. When you opened your fingers that stored energy was released and was able to move the balloon.

Why A Short Term Debt Settlement Loan Is The Worst Solution

So you are in debt up to your ears and you think a short term debt settlement loan is the answer to your prayers. Well, what you are about to find out is that is the wrong way of getting out of debt.

What happens when you take out a short term debt settlement loan is you are just transferring your debt from many financial institutions to only one. Sure it sounds simple and it would be great except for one thing. You are in debt because of discipline. The average person today is not disciplined enough to keep from adding more debt to their credit cards once they have paid them off with a short term debt settlement loan.

Let me explain this further. You pay off all your credit cards with this loan and you say I am not going to use those cards anymore. You may even take those cards out of your wallet or even tear them up. But the next time your car breaks down or your TV goes out you get those cards back out. So what you have now is a loan to pay for plus the new balance on the credit card to pay for.

Did you know there is a simple way to pay off all your credit card debts in 5 years or less without the need of a short term debt settlement loan? In fact, you don\’t even need a debt settlement company. You can take care of all these debts with the money you are currently making. The trick is to know which debts you need to pay off first. I will let you know it is not about paying off the high interest rate debts first. That takes the longest time to get out of debt.

Although the process to eliminating your debt is quite simple, the size requirements of this article will not allow me to explain all of it here. You can view my website below to learn how easy it is to get out of debt without taking out a short term debt settlement loan. Wouldn\’t you agree that eliminating your debt all together is better than just transferring it to another financial institution?

My Review Of The CECT P168 Phone PDA - AKA the iClone

I\’ve had this little phone since last November and I am loving it. I was swayed by an article in Popular Science that called the clone “the real deal” for it\’s solid performance. And, I\’ll admit, I purchased it as a way to get around having to pay over $100 per month from AT&T for an iPhone. Since new technology and new wireless plans are coming out all of time, I did not want to make that large of a commitment and I wanted the freedom to choose my own carrier. I also really liked the fact that it had a removable battery (which iPhone does not. If your battery goes out with an iPhone, you have to take it to the dealer.)

The iClone also has six speakers and has a considerably better sound than the iPhone. The price has come way down since I bought mine. If I had waited, I could probably get one now for under $100. For the price it is now, it\’s a great phone for a kid, teen or college student because you get the internet, MP3, camera phone and video capabilities for the same price as a very basic phone that doesn\’t have much on it.

In a nutshell, anything you can do with the IPhone, you can also do with the iClone CECT P168. You don\’t need to buy or install any software. The phone will automatically recognize your network, phone book, and personal settings. The features that I personally use most are is the full screen movie player, the music player (I download books on tape a lot), and the internet, but the phone has a full set of features (many of which I don\’t use, but like that they are there).

I\’ve been extremely happy with this phone. For all the technology you get and it\’s very tight performance, the CECT P168 boasts an unbelievable price.

How To Save My Marriage Today

I need to save my marriage today, and at any cost. I am desperate. In fact, I realized it very lately that my marriage was in grave danger. And to some extent, I was the person to blame. It all triggered off with a small quarrel over a small mistake of mine. But then, my ego dropped in and I never agreed that it was my mistake, although I knew it was. Slowly, we started feeling that the person who spoke first surrenders first. As a result, our problems were never solved. Situations grew worse and worse and I always neglected it. I always thought that she will surrender some day before my ego. But that did not happen. Now that our marriage is on the verge of a death and we are living separate, I realized what a big mistake I had done.

Then, a very good friend of mine promised me that he could save my marriage today, on the condition that I had to do whatever he says. He explained to me the importance of a family as the most basic unit of any society and how a break-up would cost on the lives and future of our children. I decided to follow him. The first thing I did was to shed-off my ego and tell her that I realized my mistake and I wanted her back into my life desperately. She did not answer back. The very next day I visited her place, presented her with a nice bouquet and asked her if we could fall in love again and if she was interested to forgive a fool like me and teach me how to make this small life a beautiful one. She burst into tears and my marriage was saved.

My friends! Many of you might be facing the similar situations. If you want your marriage to survive for long, just try one thing, put aside your ego, smile broad and say, “I want to save my marriage today”.

How Do You Keep From Choking Under Pressure In A Tennis Match?

This question has been asked often by students of mine - but only after they\’ve known me for awhile. The reason they wait so long to ask it is because they don\’t ever want to admit that the reason they lost a match or a shot is because they \’choked\’. When push comes to shove, however, every player out there must admit that they\’ve let their nerves get the best of them at one time or another; and it doesn\’t feel good to admit it. Our failure to perform to our known level of ability is sometimes too much to bear. We make excuses. We find a scapegoat. It was the wind. Or the sun in my eyes on that last double fault. My opponent\’s constant \’grunting\’ threw me off. God forbid we be honest with ourselves and perhaps admit that we need some training in order to prevent this type of behavior in the future.

Training? Yes, training. You see, to some observers, people are either born \’mentally tough\’ or \’mentally weak\’, period. While people do have different personality types, I, for one, DO NOT believe this theory holds any water. Rather, I believe that players can be trained to deal with the dilemma of pressure. So back to the original question: How do you keep from choking under pressure?

First, ask yourself what your definition of \’choking\’ is. If you are referring to, let\’s say, a second serve that is normally very reliable but is letting you down during key points, then you are dealing with what most people refer to as \’choking\’. (We\’ll deal with that in a moment.) However, if you are dealing with shots and strategies that you\’ve seldom dealt with before (perhaps you are attempting to serve-and-volley when you normally play from the baseline), then you have hit an area where you don\’t have much experience. In this case, your nerves are getting the best of you because you know, deep down, that you haven\’t yet acquired the skills necessary to accomplish the task you are attempting. This is not choking, but rather a lack of skill in making choices that give you the highest percentage of winning. Make sure you\’re not confusing \’choking\’ with inexperience.

Getting back to what \’choking\’ truly is, and how to prevent it, let\’s take a look at a match situation, and see how two players might face it head-on. First, let\’s look at a player who has a very laid-back personality and doesn\’t get excited about too much. (The Swedes from the 70\’s, 80\’s and 90\’s are good examples: Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander, Stefan Edberg, Joakim Nystrom etc). Let\’s call this guy…Lars (sounds Swedish, right?) Okay. People like Lars who play tennis in a \’laid-back\’ manner (emotionally speaking) are far less likely to \’blow up\’ when they miss a shot. They are far less likely to talk negatively to themselves on the court; and they are far less likely to \’choke\’ than a person with an \’excitable\’ personality. Why is that? It is because Lars\’ naturally laid-back personality allows him to not really get too emotionally \’wound-up\’ over the consequences of whether or not he misses a shot. It\’s his personality to \’roll with the punches\’ and focus on one shot at a time. Does that mean Lars is naturally going to be a better tennis player than most? Not at all. It is simply a facet of his personality. There are other areas of Lars\’ game where his \’laid-back\’ personality is often times a hindrance. For example, Lars has trouble motivating himself on the court during practice, and has a much harder time putting pressure on his opponent - again, a facet of his laid-back personality.

Now let\’s look at an \’excitable\’ player named \’John\’. John\’s excitable personality leads him to be fierce, driven and ultra-competitive on the tennis court. As a function of his \’excitable\’ personality, he is driven to expect rewards when he performs well, as he feels he\’s \’earned it\’. However, there are times when the pressure to hit a good shot weighs more on John than it would on Lars, even if they were facing the exact same situation on the court. The reason? John\’s excitable personality causes him to become emotionally invested in the outcome of the match (or point, or shot, etc), which leads to him putting pressure on himself to perform well - but often times just the opposite happens. All of the consequences of not performing outweigh the consequences of performing well for him. How come? He expected to perform well and expects positive results. In his mind, he thinks “Woopty-doo. I\’m supposed to beat this guy, so there\’s no big reward if I do. But if I don\’t…”

You can see now why the pressure mounts for excitable John. John\’s completion of the sentence “But if I don\’t…” would give you more insight in to why people \’choke\’ than you can imagine. Imagine if you could just keep on asking John questions after he finishes the sentence “But if I don\’t…” Let\’s ask John and see shat he says:

Q: “John, if you lose this match, what\’s the worst that can happen?”

A: “Well, I\’ll be out of the tournament.”

Q: “And?”

A: “And everyone at the club will know I lost and wanna play me to see if I they can knock me off, too.”

Q: “What\’s so bad about that?”

A: “Well, how would you like to spend 5 years and $10,000 on tennis lessons just to lose?”

Q: “This isn\’t about me, John, it\’s about you. How does spending all that time and money on your game make you feel?”

A: “Like I wasted a lot of time and money.”

Q: “How does wasting time and money make you feel?”

A: “Like a complete fool…”

The answers really are there, and once you find those answers you will be able to embrace the pressure. John\’s ultimate reason for not wanting to lose the match was because he\’d feel “Like a complete fool.” His insecurity is what\’s causing the pressure. It has nothing to do with his abilities. He feels his performance on the tennis court is what determines whether or not he\’s a fool as a person.

Now those were just two examples of two distinct personality types. I offered them up for you as a way to relate to the experience. However, no matter what your personality type, you can train yourself to deal with pressure. The way to beat the \’choking\’ phenomenon has been studied by sports psychologists and men of genius as long as sports have been around. While I claim to be neither a psychologist nor a genius, I will tell you that through my observations and experiences over the years, the one sure-fire way to get a handle on pressure is to embrace it. The simplest way to embrace pressure is to realize the cause of it. Most pressure comes from the fear of an unwanted outcome. The key word here is \’fear\’. Now that you know this, you must ask yourself a question: “What\’s the worst that can happen, and what are the consequences if my fears are realized?”

Example: Jessica is down 30-40, at 4-5 in the third set of her state qualifying match. She\’s on her second serve. She\’s worked hard to get to this point, and if she can win this match she\’ll make it to the State Tournament for the first time. She\’s a senior in high school and it\’s her last chance. If she double faults, it\’s all over. You can see why she would be feeling the pressure. Is there a way to beat this pressure? Is there an answer to the question: “How do you keep from choking under pressure?”

Yes, there is; but here\’s the kicker: Jessica would have had to train herself prior to getting in this situation in order to beat the pressure by embracing it. She would have had to declare her intentions, goals and possible outcomes far in advance. She would have had to understand that she wouldn\’t define herself as a person by her results; win or lose good or bad. She would have been training herself to see - and meet - pressure in a whole new way. She would be empowered to embrace the pressure, make it her own, and know that, win or lose, she\’d \’put it all out there\’. She would\’ve realized long ago even if she didn\’t get her desired results, the world would not end; and that if the moniker of \’State Tennis Championship Qualifier\’ didn\’t follow her name in the yearbook, that the sun would still come up in the morning, she\’d still be \’Jessica\’, and she\’d still be okay with it.

What The Heck is This SEO Stuff, Anyway?

There are so many people out there that claim to know about Search Engine Optimization and who claim to know what it means to have an SEO-friendly website, it makes one wonder if all of these people really know what the process is all about. Chances are you, the website owner, hired someone with the idea that you were getting great SEO result and found that your results were only mediocre at best.

Oddly enough, it is not just smaller companies that are confused by the entire SEO issue, but larger firms suffer from SEO confusion. Also, higher priced doesn\’t always mean better service. Shop around and ask the hard questions before hiring an SEO firm.

The thing to remember is that SEO has changed since the beginning. Search engine algorithms have evolved and are far more sophisticated. This evolution means that the guidelines are continually changing.

A New Idea

SEO is a little more than ten years old. In the beginning, webmasters began optimizing sites by submitting a page or two to search engines that would then send out a searchbot or spider to crawl that page, extract links to the other pages in the site and gather the information found on the pages it finds.

The process involved a search engine spider downloading a page and storing it on the search engine\’s own server when a second application, known as an indexer, extracts the information found on the pages. The information about the pages, such as the words found on the pages, links, where everything is located on the page, is then placed into a scheduler to be crawled again at a later date.

Early versions of search engine algorithms relied solely on the webmaster providing information through the metatags, or index files. Metatags provided a kind of road map to the page\’s content. As soon as webmasters realized this was the procedure, it became an unreliable system because webmasters could manipulate keywords and descriptions so that they had nothing at all to do with the actual page content.

Google is Born in 1998

All of this changed when Google arrived on the scene in 1998. Not only was Google\’s simple page design appealing to Internet users, users liked the off-page factors such as page ranking and the on-page analysis of a website. This eliminated the keyword manipulation that plagued other search engines.

SEO Today

SEO today is improving the volume of website traffic and the quality of visitors to the site via the use of targeted keywords. An SEO expert has to think like their consumer, and they also have to understand how the algorithms work. SEO should involve the site\’s code, overall design, text-rich content, accurate navigation and eliminate anything that would prevent a spider from crawling the entire site.

In addition to organic searches to the site, a good SEO firm will establish a pay-per-click advertising campaign to boost site visibility. Google considers popularity a major factor when ranking a page.

A well-conceived plan will attack the web from several different angles at the same time. Social networking is an important factor as well as inbound links. The inbound links have to be chosen carefully and have a relationship to the website in some way. Otherwise, Google may consider the site simply a link farm.

Cinnamon for Diabetes, Cholesterol, and Blood Sugar Control - Does It Really Work?

Cinnamon for diabetes is one of the hottest topics in natural products today. The problem is, there are a lot of people who are otherwise experts on diabetes but who don\’t know much about herbs putting out a lot of misinformation about it.

My own claim to expertise on the subject is, other than having been involved in designing a clinical trial to test the efficacy of cinnamon for diabetes and having written a few books on herbal medicine, I\’m also a former formulator of some of the kinds of products you find on store shelves.

The good news about cinnamon for diabetes is, it sometimes actually works. The bad news about cinnamon for diabetes is, it doesn\’t always work for diabetes, and there\’s more than one kind of cinnamon.

The cinnamon that has been documented in published clinical research is Cinnamomum cassia. Despite what some “experts” say, this isn\’t the kind of cinnamon you sprinkle on your oatmeal or you get with cinnamon rolls, at least if you\’re getting the good stuff. That other kind of cinnamon is Cinnamomum zeylanicum. <i?Cinnamomum cassia is dark brown, whereas the milder Cinnamomum zeylanicum is more of a tan.

Cinnamomum cassia is a slightly bitter, not quite as aromatic variety of cinnamon used in South Asian cuisine. It\’s not the kind used in quality baked goods. It\’s the kind used in curry.

Cinnamomum cassia is a centuries-old Ayurvedic and Udani (Pakistani) remedy. And it\’s the herb that was used in the now-famous study conducted in Pakistan and monitored in the US.

This study of the use of 1, 3, or 6 grams (1 gram = 1,000 mg) of cinnamon every day for 40 days found that on average in a group of diabetics who did not have any other treatment:

  • Fasting glucose was lowered 18 to 29 per cent. For most diabetics, this would be something in the range of 30-50 mg/dl, or 1-2.5 mM.

  • LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol was lowered 7 to 27 per cent.

  • Total cholesterol was lowered 12 to 26 per cent without any loss of the protective HDL cholesterol.

  • Fasting triglycerides were lowerd 23 to 30 per cent.

What\’s even better was, the benefits continued even after the clinical trial participants quit taking cinnamon. And more was not necessarily better. The optimum dose was 3,000 mg a day, not 6,000 mg.

So what\’s the catch?

The people who benefited most from taking cinnamon in this study (and in several others) were people who had type 2 diabetes and who didn\’t have access to any other medication. They weren\’t in severe distress from high blood sugars, but they probably did have sugars running 220 mg/dl (10+ mM). Cinnamon got sugars down to 140 mg/dl (7 mM) or so.

Cinnamon–and remember, it has to be the right kind of cinnamon–helps a whole lot of if you\’re just diagnosed and struggling to find some way to get your sugars down. No doctor is going to tell you it\’s enough, but the fact is, it can help.

If your goal is to get your morning blood sugar from 90 mg/dl to 85, cinnamon won\’t help you all that much.

What about the other kind of cinnamon? Well, basically, it\’s tasty. And there\’s nothing wrong with that. Just be sure the product you take for diabetes is labeled Cinnamomum cassia. It doesn\’t have to be an expensive extract. The cheaper capsules of pure cinnamon work just as well.
