Learning Photoshop Made Simple

There are some fun ideas you can play around with in Photoshop and text. Here is a great way to make imac text in just a few easy steps: 1. Type some text. I used: TG using the font “Lucida console” the font color doesn’t matter so just pick one. 2. Now go to Blending Options (Right-click on text layer). Select (and modify) the following: Dropshadow, color to #4B6B95 Innershadow, color to #304B98 Outerglow, color to #44CAFE Innerglow, color to #314E9A Bevel and emboss Contour, now just double click on the little box and you’ll see something like this: 3. Create 2 more points to have a total of 4 points and give them the following input-output values: Point 1: input: 0% output: 0% Point 2: input: 27% output: 4% Point 3: input: 59% output: 56% Point 4: input: 100% output: 99% You’ll see something like this: 4. Select satin, change the color to #60ACFF and change the contour to “ring”. And finally select color overlay and change the color to #B7E1F7. Its this easy to create your own awesome text formats.

Want to learn how to create angled lines? Having fun with photoshop there are tons of different types of angles and grids. Pulling together resources and tutorials that are correct and easy to follow can be quite awesome looking. Check out this easy way to create angled lines over your picture: 1. Open Photoshop. Open an image to apply angled lines effect. 2. Create New file with 3 pixel width, 3 pixel height and transparent background. 3. Select some foreground color. Draw angled line using Pencil Tool. 4. Select All using CTRL + A 5. Create a pattern by Edit > Define Pattern. Name the pattern. 6. Close the Pattern file and go back to image file. Create new layer. Keep it selected. 7. Edit > Fill (Choose “Pattern” from “Use” drop down menu and again in “Custom Pattern” you will find newly created pattern) 8. Select newly created pattern and fill the layer. Change the layer mode to “Multiply”

Having fun with graphics is one of the best things to do if you enjoy playing with numbers and fading things in and out of focus. It is easy enough to do, creating a lightning bolt should be like this: start by creating a new image and then right away create a new layer. Also set the background color as black, (the image size I used here is 350X500). Now make a selection one pixel wide and make it cover the whole length. Fill this selection in with white. Next you have to go to Filter > Distort > Wave. The settings are as follows, [Generators - 5], [Wavelenth - 225/299], [Amplitude - 5/35], and [Scale - 100/100]. Now you have a wavey line, Apply an outer glow and transform and duplicate it a bit (Or experiment, I am just giving you an idea of how this is done.) I made the light balls with the gradient tool set to “radial.” You can now start to add detail, smaller particles and some dodges. This effect is easy, but it really depends on how much time you want to spend doing it. It really starts to look good on 3D explosions in abstracts. I went ahead doing a little more detail using the same techniques and styles.

Interfaces are around us everyday, they look different for some really fun sites. Some find that is really entertaining is creating a skin for a media player, you can make them look really cool with different fun colors. They can be metallic, hunter like anything you want really. First you want to start with the base: 1. The Base With a new file in blank, make a new layer and in this, create an oval and fill it with black. Center it, and add the soft metal style. 2. Internal shape Make a selection of the oval, reduce it 15 pts. Now take out some parts, making the image more interesting. Copy the entire layer, and paste this into a new alpha layer. 3. Blur In the alpha layer, apply a Gaussian blur of 15 px 4. Levels Then hit Ctrl+L, and in the levels box, use the settings I show here in the image. Copy the alpha channel, and paste the image into a new layer ( standard layer). 5. Round corners The trick with the alpha results in an image with some rounded corners, very nice and with this style, better! Well, we need to select the shape again (Ctrl + mouse click) contract the selection a bit and create a new shape in a new layer. 6. New shape In the new layer, we need to fill the selection and apply the same style of the “base” but only changing the direction of the gradient fill to inverse. This change increases the effect of bevel here. 7. Screen Now, in a new layer we draw a shape for our screen and make it more rounded using the “alpha trick”. Again, I fill this one with a gradient, inverse to make more effect. 8. Color screen One more layer to create the screen: A gradient (I like this green tones) and an inner shadow. I’ve added here some little lines to give the “scan effect”. 9. Screen details And the rest of the screen details: The text, some lines for the volume and equalizer… Whatever you want. We are almost done… 10. Details Well… Now, the rest are add some details like buttons, screws and stuff like that… And of course, a logo if you want. Remember the use of the “alpha trick” and the styles that give the cool final effects.

Changing your photos can be just as time consuming as creating them, why don’t you have some fun doing it? For this step by step know how you will learn to shade your skies different colors. This is because in pictures the sky can look a little faded and fade the rest of the image. Sharpening your sky is pretty easy, start by opening the image that you want to edit. File > Open > Image name. Then go to Image > Adjust > Selective Color and apply the following settings: - Colors = Blues - Cyan = 0% - Magneta = 0% - Yellow = 0% - Black = 100% - Method = Relative (Change color settings to your liking if you want) Press OK. Now you should create a luminosity selection by hitting the Ctl + Alt + ~ . Then create a duplicate copy of the image (Ctl+J) or Layer > New > Layer Via Copy. Now select the new layer and set the new layer’s Blending mode to color burn. In the new layer erase the parts that you don’t want darkened. It is this easy and now your entire picture was touched up, instead of looking faded out you can sharpen you photo.

Airbrushing can be really fun sometimes, you can create spectacular photos using shading, airbrushing and mixing these techniques. Here is an airbrush technique right here: Set the brush as above and brush across the canvas until you have a similar look to the one below. Apply the filter > Distort > Ripple Effect with the standard settings repeat a further four times. Apply the Filter > Blur > Radial Blur Zoom 50% click Edit > Fade Radial Blur > 75%. Set the eraser as above and brush lightly across the canvas until you have a similar look to the one below. Apply a Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Set the radius so you get the required detail of airbrushing Apply Edit > Transform > Distort to create the required shape depending on the blur applied it should come out something like below.

Now for some really fun stuff, ever wondered how to create those really awesome images that people use on their sites all time, well here is a step by step way to do it. Layer 1 Create a normal gradient fill. Layer 2 Duplicate the gradient layer and apply filter > Render > Difference Clouds 5 times. Set the layer to soft light. Layer 3 Duplicate the gradient [layer 1] and set to multiply. Layer 4 Now on to the render, Apply Filter > Distort > Radial Blur Zoom 100%. Apply Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast: Brightness -100, Contrast -100. Layer 5 Another render copy. Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur: Radius 10. Apply Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast: Brightness -100, Contrast -100. Move the layer slightly to offset the shadow. Layer 5 Another Render copy. This time simply as standard, Normal. Layer 6 Duplicate layer 5 and set to screen.Layer 7, 8, 9 Create 3 areas of exploding pixie dust. For light background areas set the layer to overlay. For dark backgrounds keep on normal. Layer 10, 11, 12 Create 3 areas of simple airbrushing.

Learn Digital Photography - Which Digital Camera Is For You?

Before deciding on purchasing a digital camera, it is important that you set yourself a budget. This should happen before going online or visiting an electronics shop. It is just like purchasing any other large item else such as a computer. There are a lot of options, and you don’t want to get stuck biting off more than you can chew, expense-wise. High-end cameras offer the great zoom, more extra features and more megapixels.

Having more megapixels doesn’t mean you will have the great picture quality. Unfortunately these cameras can also take a huge bite out of your wallet if you are not careful. When you are starting out in the wide world of digital photography, it is easier to not spend a huge amount of money on the high-end SLR cameras. Look for cheaper, yet effective, compact digital cameras that are a lot easier to hold. The best thing to do is learn the basics with this digital camera and make sure you enjoy the hobby before spending the cash for higher-end digital cameras.

Some people don’t really enjoy going on airplanes or helicopters, how do they take those spectacular aerial photos? Guess what you don’t have to use planes or helicopters! Sometimes aerial shots on planes can sometimes get expensive unless you have a friend with a plane. Flying in a little plane around a city a couple of times can be quite frightening for some people. The little secret that few photographers know is: some “in-flight” photos are not actually taken from a plane. Quite the contrary, they are taken from a countryside or city vantage point. Being in the observation deck of a skyscraper will actually get you just about as high as a low flying plane would. Your photographs will look like aerial shots that were taken as you were flying around, but in fact you didn’t even enter in any aircraft.

Fall is one of the most pleasurable times for photographers. It brings beautiful orange, brown, and red leaf colors. If you plan on traveling to take advantage of nature’s yearly fireworks display, you need to ensure you get to your destination at the peak period to enjoy the best fall leaves. If you live in the US, the US Department of Agriculture has a website that displays fall foliage information by geographical area. Finding out the best times to visit areas is crucial.

A good place is New England. A well planned trip could be the best way to get some really extraordanary pictures. Information is updated as soon as conditions permit. If traveling is out of the question for you, check with your government agriculture website to see the best times. Good research results in spectacular pictures. Here is a good source for US photographers: The Foliage Network - http://www.foliagenetwork.com/

When you are taking fireworks photos a good location is always essential with your digital camera. As in any other type of digital photography, when shooting fireworks, composition is necessary. Before the show begins, find a good angle that will provide you with a clear picture of the upcoming fireworks. Having people in front of your camera is completely unacceptable, avoid it at all costs. Streetlights will fade out the fire works phenomenally; therefore it is best to avoid streetlamps. Basically finding the best possible shot, with few lights, few people and not against the law is difficult but doable. Sometimes have a view on a boat is helpful if the water is calm.

Sometimes taking photos at night is more difficult than it seems. Shooting photos at dusk may provide your camera with just enough light to take fantastic cityscape photos. The sky is decently dark at dusk, but not so dark to prevent some degree of sunlight entering your digital camera, making it easier to take hand-held photos that do not result all blurry due to ‘camera-shake’. If you are looking for a superb nighttime photo, it would be better to consider taking your photos at dusk instead of in the pitch black of night. Dusk only lasts for an hour or so. Research your shot locations and time beforehand. Keep your eye on the weather in the location you selected and make sure its not raining the day you decide to go out.

When you are taking pictures of a parade it is best to not ruin time by trying to focus after every picture. It is best to shoot as many photos as possible during a parade, think about buying a focus lock. This keeps your shutter button held halfway down and don’t completely release it after taking a photo. Or you might want to set your camera up for manual focus. This way, you can take several photos in succession, or use your camera’s “drive” mode for multiple shots within a small range of time. This would enable you to take a bunch of photos without having to refocus for each shot and your digital camera should function much quicker. Though you may want to set up and refocus for certain special shots, other times you may have just as much fun continuously shooting as the action in a parade can happen very fast.

When you are taking digital pictures on sunny days, you must be careful. Sometimes the sun can completely damage your electronic camera. Taking pictures of sunsets and rises can be amusing and enjoyable, but pointing your lens directly at the sun may damage it. Try to keep your lens pointed a little bit away from the sun directly. There is a similarity between your eye and the camera lens, they both can see and both can be damaged by the sun. As a little kid your parents told you never to look at the sun or you will see spots. The same concept applies to your camera. When you are not capturing fantastic views, turn off your camera and store in someplace room temperature so you don’t damage it. It is best and easiest to take photos in increments, and then allow your camera to relax by enclosing it somewhere cool.

Developing Your Photographic Eye

The photographer’s eye is probably his greatest asset, and if you are new to photography it should be one of the first things you learn to understand. Photographers are not born with a creative eye; your eye will develop within time, and in some cases it takes a great deal of time.

Time will vary among different individuals. It will all depend on the person’s determination to become a great photographer, on the training, and how you apply your training.

Photographers should be trained to see things differently, and should be always on the lookout for objects and scenes that will look good on print. Training, colleges and photography tutors will only teach you so much; most of the creativity you develop will be due to your hard work and awareness of what is around you. But, regardless of this - there are always ways to develop your eye at a faster pace.

One method of making your eye more apt for photography is true constant visual inspection of other photographer’s images. By browsing through magazines, websites and published work, you can see how photographers apply the tricks of the trade.

When viewing a photographers images study how he composed his shot. Also study how he used the elements of light and composition together. Study the shadows in each image to see where he placed his studio lights. If some of his images were taken outdoors shadows will still appear. Understanding light and composition is key to good imagery.

Another method is when you take images, compare them to images taken by well-known professionals. You need to be your own hardest critic. Do not be afraid to return to a scene and retake your shots. This will only make you better.

Buying photography magazines that are marketed for the amateur photographer will also be valuable. Some magazines will let you submit your shots for comment. Don’t be afraid to do this. This is where you will get honest criticism about your photography.

If you are an amateur and just want to improve your family shots, or if your goal is to become a professional, your creative eye is so important. In spite of the camera you use and this applies to video photography too, constantly viewing images and taking photographs will lead to your eye becoming sharper.

How to Take Wedding Photos - Digital Camera Basics

If you want to take great wedding photographs with your digital camera then there are few things that you need to consider. Below we will look at producing great wedding photographs when using a digital camera.

The first element in order to take great wedding photographs is to prepare. If you are being asked to take some photographs at a wedding then start preparing at least 2 months before the big day arrives. Spend time getting to know the bride and groom so you understand what they want and what they need. Some great questions to ask them are as follows:-

1. How many photographers will be there as well as you?

2. What kind of photographs are they looking for you to take for them on their big day? Do they want formal or more casual and candid shots of both themselves and their guests?

3. How many guests are actually attending the wedding and how many are guests of the bride and guests of the groom? Also how many are family members and how many of the guests are just friends of theirs?

4. Where would they like the photographs you take to be shot? Do they want you at the church or the reception or at both locations?

By asking these questions you will be able to gain a better understanding of the bride and grooms requirements for their wedding photographs and in turn you will be able to produce betters shots of the big day. Unfortunately there are many happy couples who have had their big day ruined because the photographer who took their wedding photographs didn’t take time to find out what they wanted and needed and just did as he pleased.

The next step is organizing your equipment. This is probably the most critical step of all as you don’t want to turn up at such a major event only to find that you haven’t got something or that you run out of memory sticks. Below is a list of equipment you will need for any wedding photography shoot.

1. Your digital camera. But if you can afford to bring a back up camera with you just in case.

2. Lenses and Filters. It is important that you include these in your camera case just in case you want to use them.

3. Tripod. Another essential piece of wedding photography equipment as this can be extremely useful when taking indoor shots in poor lighting conditions.

4. Memory Cards. Another essential piece of wedding photography equipment as you don’t want to find yourself unable to take any more photographs because you have no memory left on your cards. Remember taking wedding photographs can mean you will end up taking hundreds for the happy couple then to use only a few of them.

Getting A Digital Camera That Is Right For You

As you will soon find out buying a digital camera especially if it is your first time purchasing one can be extremely difficult. But if you want to ease the problem of trying to decide on how to buy a digital camera without all the hassle then read below.

The first thing you should do is try and learn about the terminology that relates to digital cameras as well as the basics and find out which features are crucial in any new digital camera.

It is important that when you are looking to buy a digital camera for the first time you know what much of the lingo (or language that the sales staff is speaking) is about. So it is important that you understand what such words as megapixel mean, zoom, memory card, memory etc. Also look at what features each camera has to offer you. You do not want to buy a digital and then find when you get it home that it only great for close up work and the zoom feature on it is no good at all. Also look at what the quality of prints the camera produces will be like you may find that it produces great 8 x 10 prints but anything smaller or larger just look awful and the quality is terrible. So it is important that before you make your digital camera purchase you are aware of the features which matter to you the most.

So when you go shopping for your first digital camera there are some questions that you should be asking yourself so that you do not end up buying a camera that you don’t really need.

1. Ask yourself what you will be using the camera for and the type of photography that you will be doing?
2. Next ask yourself in what type of conditions you will be using your digital camera? Will it be outdoors, indoors etc.
3. Are you after a camera that you can do more with rather than just staying in auto mode all the time?
4. What particular features are you looking for in your digital camera? Do you want a long zoom, one that is able to stabilize images or one that comes with a large LCD display.

Another thing to do in order that you buy a digital camera that is really what you want and need is by reading as many reviews as particular makes and models. The web is full of sites that provide reviews on digital cameras and there are even photography magazines which do in depth reviews in to all makes of cameras including digital ones. Hopefully what has been provided will help you when you want to know how to buy a digital camera that is really the right one for you.

Mastering Digital Photography Lighting

When you are taking photos and the lighting conditions are perfect, then digital photography lighting is not a problem. Unfortunately, most of the time, the conditions are not ideal so photographers have to learn to use light to get the desired results. The first thing you want to be concerned with is the main source of light on your subject. Ask yourself questions such as where the light source comes from, do you require artificial light, is there enough natural light and will your tripod need stabilizing because of low light? You need to master digital photography lighting to get the clarity and detail in your image. Sometimes a flash is all you need, while other occasions require different lighting. Remember that a flash does not benefit all situations.

You do not want a flash to interfere artistically or socially, such as during someone’s wedding vows, as you will end up with a flat digital image. This occurs frequently on digital cameras with a built-in flash and they also only light the subject from the front. Because of this the digital photo depth is compressed, which really decreases and detracts from the digital image. One way to avoid this is by watching exactly where the light falls. Once you learn and understand about digital photography lighting, the task becomes easier as you learn exactly what does and does not work when using a flash. Use a higher ISO to help alleviate a low light problem - this is a sensor that is light sensitive - but remember that there is an increase in noise when using the ISO. Fortunately, some good software programs available on the market today do reduce the noise. Adjusting the ISO to a higher level also works great in situations where a flash is not acceptable, such as someone giving a speech, where a flash would be disruptive.

If you take many sports photographs, try experimenting with and without a flash and your camera settings, to learn what works best. A built-in flash is more effective up close, where an external flash is more powerful. Many sports stadiums remain well enough lit to take pictures without a flash and many do not allow a flash, because it distracts the competitors. One digital photography lighting technique that works well for taking still subjects in very low light is image stabilization. IS or image stabilization allows you to lower your shutter speed, which works great, but this is not suitable for fast-moving images. In any case, read your camera manual, as many digital cameras have a built-in mode for taking sports pictures. This controls the amount of light admitted, the ISO and the shutter speed, so you end up with the best photograph possible, under the lighting conditions you find yourself working in.

The New Craze - Digital Photography!

What is most outstanding in the ongoing progress in digital photographic technology is that it enables everybody capture special moments of his or her lives with extra detail and precision more so now than ever. Enhancements in picture resolution and shutter velocity makes it uncomplicated for proficient photographers and novices to equally capture splendid pictures. And though a picture may not be perfect at the time it was shot, highly sophisticated photo-editing application packages (i.e. software) is capable of transforming the picture into a masterpiece of art in no time flat!

Guess What? One of the enormous rewards of digital photography is that it allows you to rapidly and without difficulty distribute your pictures and snapshots with acquaintances and relatives wherever they may be on earth via electronic mail (e-mail). Do you care to remember the hassle that you would have gone through if you tried using your old your film camera to do that?

Veteran digital or film photographers affirm that timing is, for the most part, a major important issue for shooting a first-class picture. There is only a small, fraction of time available to capture a grand shot. Be it a shot of a splendid sunset or a snapshot of athletes as they cross the finish line, your timing must be razor-sharp…this is the intuition that lets you know precisely when to depress that shutter knob. This is the reason why digital photography is an art form.
To a large extent, majority of photographers never really actualize their dream of shooting that “perfect” shot. For instance, their picture may be framed well, but the lighting is not exactly right. Or maybe they’ve got the lighting accurately, but they forget to use the flash or red-eye decreasing option. Instances like these give digital photography an obvious edge because it offers a brilliant method to getting the precise look you intended to capture in a picture.

Guess what? A second tremendous advantage of digital photography is its capability to print out your snapshots almost instantly. Whereas with film cameras you would have had to take the film to be processed before going back to pick them up, digital photography gives you an instant alternative!

All shots taken via a digital camera can be altered digitally via photo-enhancing software to attain its full potential - color improvement, zoomed or cropped to their finest size, red-eye reduction etc., etc. All of these editing options occur within minutes, giving you the opportunity and advantage of having the most outstanding photos ever shot.

The tag-team of a high-quality digital camera and a good photo-editing software package can achieve great things. Your camera has built-in capabilities that represent only the start of the editing potential expected of the digital photographic era.

Guess what? Another gigantic advantage of digital photography is the ability for you to tweak and change your pictures and images in any way that you please. Due to the fact that your photos are in digital files, they can be worked on in photo-editing software packages that enables you adjust the images in a variety of ways thereby enhancing its final output.

Editing software can be utilized to tweak images in any way you wish. Retailers locally and online can furnish you with the gear, photo-enhancing software, and information you require to capture splendid digital photographs. Before settling on a choice of digital camera, you ought to verify that it has all the features and options that you require for your work. Go for models having not only the capability to deliver those great pictures you so require but that also boasts simple docking methods for transferring these pictures from the camera to your printer or PC. High-quality photo-enhancing software that enables you modify your digital images include: Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo Album and Kodak Picture.

So, now you know all about the advantages that digital photography has over your basic film camera technology. Bottom line? Your choice of camera/technology, should ultimately be informed by what you intend to achieve at the end of the day! Have fun.

7 Creative Ideas for Your Digital Picture Frames

Digital Picture Frames come in a variety of styles, but many of them look like your traditional photo frames. The digital frames allow you to load your digital pictures - and even music - into them for interactive photo frames!

They are both affordable and easy to use, making them ideal for any family. They also make great gifts as a stand-alone item, or pre-loaded with digital pictures and music.

A digital picture frame will display streaming slide shows, play music, and even show video files. As easy as they are to load with digital content, you can keep your picture frame current with recent photos from vacation, graduation, family events, your growing children - or practically anything you want to show off!

Below are 7 super creative ways that you can use digital picture frames:

1. Set up a comforting slide show of family photos, accompanied by lullabies, and place it in the nursery for your baby or small child to enjoy. You might include pictures of Mommy, Daddy, grandparents and even the favorite teddy bear. Not only will they enjoy their personalized show, but it makes a great night light as well!

2. Create a slideshow of family photos that spans several across decades for your parents wedding anniversary. It will make the perfect gift! Let them watch their children grow up all over again while they enjoy highlights from their life together. This is sure to be a big hit at the anniversary party.

3. Give the grandparents something to show off! Preload the digital picture frame with current pictures of their grandchildren before you give it to them. You can update it with new pictures each time you go for a visit. This would make a great holiday or birthday gift, and its something they would truly treasure.

4. Use your digital picture frame to encourage fun family time. Let everyone, even the children, take fun pictures during family outings. It may be a trip to the park, a hike in the woods, or a day at the pool. You can update your digital frame together afterwards. The children will really enjoy being involved in the “production” for your ever-changing photo frame!

5. Digital frames are perfect for business counters or office desks. You can display current specials or new products. Imagine a real estate agent showcasing the latest homes. A photographer showing off their line of prints. An interior decorator displaying a slideshow of before and after shots from recent contracts. A web designer could even showcase screen shots of their best work. The ideas are endless!

6. Let your digital picture frame tell a story with a musical slideshow. It may be the building of your new home. You can showcase your children from birth to their current age. Or you might make a mini-movie of your life as a couple - from dating to wedding to children. It will keep people captivated to the very end, and be an incredible conversation piece!

7. Use your digital frame as a mobile presentation tool. Small and easy to carry, you can display almost any type of images you like. Most have a remote control and are compatible with various file formats, allowing you to offer an intriguing visual presentation on almost any topic!
