An Introduction To Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are among those modern conditions which aren’t always taken seriously by the wider population, but which can have very serious effects for its victims. Indeed, far from being a minor problem which sufferers can solve simply by ‘pulling themselves together’, many of the eating disorders commonly seen are recognized psychological conditions which if left untreated can even turn out to be fatal. For this reason it’s very important to spot any early signs of eating disorders in yourself, your family, or friends and colleagues, so that treatment can be started while the problem remains relatively easily coped with.

No one knows for sure how many people are affected by the main disorders, namely anorexia and bulimia, as the official figures inevitably under report the true extent of the problem. One of the features of these conditions, and anorexia in particular, is a lack of awareness in the sufferer that they actually have a problem, and so they naturally don’t seek help. In the case of bulimia (binge eating compulsive eating), there is also often an element of guilt over what the sufferer acknowledges is inappropriate and uncontrolled behavior, again leading to an avoidance of treatment.

Bulimia is far more common than anorexia, with around 10% of women suffering from the former compared to 1% the latter. Among anorexics, around 10% of sufferers will eventually die as a result of the condition, and so should you spot any of the warning signs then medical advice should be urgently sought.

What is for sure is that eating disorders are more common than might be expected, and many consider the problem to be increasing in scope partly because of today’s mass media promotion of attaining perfect body images.

Anorexia Nervosa, or plain anorexia as it’s usually referred to as, is characterized by an unrealistic perception of ones own body. Sufferers will look into the mirror and see an overweight person looking back at them, however slim they may actually be. This constant desire to be thinner can lead to extreme dieting, excessive and obsessive exercise, and a preoccupation with food and avoiding it that can really take over a person’s life. In extreme cases, the self starvation will continue unchecked until it proves fatal, even when the physical evidence that the sufferer is seriously underweight should be overwhelmingly obvious.

The effects of bulimia, on the other hand, may not be visible to outside observers. This disorder is characterized by bouts of hugely excessive eating, followed by purging activities to rid the body of the excess calories. Sufferers will lose control of their eating completely during these periods, gorging themselves way beyond any level of food intake necessary for health. Common methods of purging include self-induced vomiting and overuse of laxatives, and this is usually followed by a sense of self loathing and repulsion at the lack of control shown. The sufferer may also self-starve as both a form of atonement for their behavior and as a self imposed punishment.

While bulimia is not as physically harmful as anorexia, the psychological effects can be devastating, leading to depression and even more serious outcomes including suicide in the worst of cases. The physical signs of bulimia which can be observed tend to be related to the purging methods used, and include regularly bloodshot eyes, swollen glands, and dental erosion. In the long term, the dangers include digestive system problems such as ulcers, weakness and exhaustion, and even heart problems.

Simone writes on a range of health and social issues, including eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating.

We Are Changing Lives Everyday…

Many of us suffer from eating disorders, drug & alcohol addiction, etc. It’s very hard to overcome these addictions. One of the main problems is that most people do not know where to start. Getting in touch with ourselves is the starting point for any problems we need to overcome. We need to learn what is going on inside of us. Over-eating, drug abuse, and all other addictions are nothing but a symptom to what is really going on inside you. You are suffering from a more deep emotional problem or an event in your life rooting back many years.

You choose to forget and put these problems out of your mind instead of dealing with them. Over-indulging in other things allows us to do this. It takes us outside of ourselves allowing us, for the moment, to forget what is at hand. We must repeat this over and over to stay outside of ourselves. We are then told that we are addicted to whatever it is that you chose to use and that we need help with that addiction. Getting help for that is great, but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem and that is why so many people in this world are unsuccessful in treatment programs. We can help you discover what is really going on with you. We can only help…

Nobody knows better than you what is right for you, we can only help you on your way, point you in the right direction, the decisions and the actions are up to you, in fairness to yourself. We will help you find what it is that is right for you, but you alone will reap the benefits of your actions. Self-discovery is amazing; taking our courses will help you identify who you really are inside. After this discovery your life will just keep improving day after day, naturally, taking the course of solving your inner problems, helping you to find complete happiness.

Achieveing a certificate in self-awareness took a lot of my time and effort. I came to the conclusion that many people in the world have jobs, families and just don’t have this kind of time to invest in self improvement and personal growth, the result, they go on living unhappily. I decided to put together learning courses that simplify the process of achieving complete happiness. You will learn very valuable tools to use in your daily lives to achieve this. These courses have been tested by me and I use them everyday of my life. Courses are short but effective, perfect for people who have very full lives and not a lot of time. I am very proud of the improvements in my life and the many other lives that have improved. The greatest reward for me is being a part and watching so many people come alive again.

Overcoming Eating Disorders Through Yoga

Over 10 million women and a million men are affected by different forms of eating disorders in the United States alone. Most of them are teens and the common illnesses are represented by anorexia and bulimia. The physical factors related to these illnesses have only been recently acknowledged as only mental factors were previously thought to be responsible for these conditions. Eating disorders are triggered by a complexity of factors including social, biological, psychological and behavioral items.

A calm and focused mind has a better chance of reducing the harmful effects of eating disorders. Yoga has been proven to reduce depression and recreate a state of balance and well being. Different yoga practices encourage heightened levels of self esteem and promote a positive view of your own body. This is a crucial factor in eating disorders and has been shown to significantly increase recuperation and healing. By eliminating self judgment, yoga establishes a strong connection between mind and body, allowing the two elements to work together in decreasing any negative effects. Anorexia affects your body’s energy levels and reduces the bone density, creating unwanted negative effects at a physical level. Regular yoga practice also increase the overall fitness level of the body, giving it a good chance of fighting against illnesses.

The yogic system identifies eating disorders as a problem related to the first chakra and different poses are used to balance it: crab, full wind, pigeon, locust, staff etc. Strengths and courage can be increased by using grounding postures such as mountain, goddess, standing squat and prayer squat. The postures reestablish the strong mind-body connections and help overcome most physical obstacles. Most back bending poses help reduce depression and forward bends usually calm the spirit and reduce the effects of anorexia.

As the mental component plays an important role in eating disorders, meditation can reduce harmful thoughts and feelings. An active, specifically targeted meditation practice will prove to be very effective. Less obvious results can also be obtain by using a general mediation technique. The yoga poses work best when the exterior elements are left aside and concentration focuses on inner aspects of yourself. Paying special attention to breathing and inner sensations will take you to a state of calmness and increased awareness. This new state will allow you to go further an explore new concepts that will enable you to achieve goals that proved problematic in the past.

Being aware of the problem and showing a constant and strong desire to change that is a great method to reduce the effects of bulimia and anorexia. An early adoption of yoga practices would make the patient more aware of the problem, thus contributing to an early cure. However, these yoga techniques are usually used in the recuperative stages of the illness. Most people suffering from anorexia or bulimia go through a strong denial stage, which aggravates their condition even more. As with all illnesses, yoga works best in the prevention stage of the problem, when the negative effects are still low and easier to eliminate.

Size Zero - The New Killer

I am very concerned about our young, and maybe not so young, women today, who seem obsessed with loosing enormous amounts of weight.

The problem stems from the images of all the grotesquely thin celebrities who feature in magazines and on web sites. Young girls begin to think the wafer-thin image is the norm, and begin dieting to get down to the desired, size Zero.

Young girls, and as I wrote earlier, maybe not so young women, are damaging their bodies with this extreme dieting, and I want to alert you all to the risks.

When you have lost all your fat, you begin to loose muscle. You become weaker and are always exhausted.

As your body weakens, so does your brain! You will suffer from concentration problems, sleep disturbances and you may develop a chemical imbalance in the brain, which could lead to mental problems. The brain, like the rest of the body, needs calories to survive.

The immune system will become compromised, leading to infections. Your fertility may also be affected, and if you continue dieting, you could forever loose your chance to conceive, because you may enter an early menopause, from which, even if you begin eating normally, you will not recover.

Eventually, extreme dieters loose the desire to eat and then they really are at risk. But what’s to be done?

Magazines and websites should not feature these ultra-thin celebrities. They should, instead, feature the female celebs who have not pandered to the image of Size Zero, and men should tell their wives and girlfriends that they don’t find thin celebs sexy. I hope this image doesn’t continue, because all of the size zero celebrities, and the girls who copy them, are quite literally… DYING!

I have a website. It is http://www.myspace.com/marilynswriting

From Dieting To Anorexia - Can Dieting Lead To Eating Disorders?

Anorexia nervosa is difficult to combat because victims of this eating disorder are not fully aware of their situation until it is too late. Once the eating habits have been established it is very difficult to change them even with professional treatment.

The problem with anorexia nervosa lies in the fact that it is a mental illness. For some reasons, which are still unknown, anorexic persons have a distorted image of their bodies. They are denying the fact that they are heavily underweight already. They still believe to be overweight and fat.

When this happens then anorexia nervosa has become an illness where eating habits control the life of the victim and not the other way round. However, the anorexic person still may believe to have control over eating habits, often even enjoying the degree of control they believe to have over their bodies and weight.

This false believe has serious consequences. Anorexia has mortality rate between 10 and 20 percent, a number almost nobody is aware of. Often eating disorders are just described as harmless conditions which will go away sooner or later, especially when found in teenagers who follow the wrong advice of web sites full of harmful tips on how to become anorexic.

Can dieting tips really lead to anorexia nervosa? There is much more about it and the problem is more complex than most are willing to admit. It is possible that an obsession can become a mental illness. It is also possible that behaviors, just performed often enough, can change into habits which can not be controlled that easily anymore.

It is like with any behavior. Repeat it over and over again and it will become part of your personality. If you follow bad advice and make bad tips part of your behavior then you are on a dangerous path. This is especially true when it comes to nutrition.

Once bad eating habits have been established, permanent malnutrition is the consequence. Depending on the habits this malnutrition can be extremely harmful to the body but also to the mind.

For example, many tips on how to be anorexic include intentional vomiting. While the simple logic behind it seems to make sense, the long-term effects are often denied. Such a habit can easily become part of the normal life to a degree where eating is no more possible without purging thereafter. This habit not only robs the body essential nutrients which are only absorbed when coming into the bowel, the gastric acid is destroying teeth and mucous membranes.

Other bad anorexic tips explain the abuse of drugs in order to loose weight fast. Especially young people are denying the possible outcomes of drug abuse. Instead of going the healthy way of dieting with balanced nutrition and exercise, they are trying shortcuts and just cheat themselves.

It is easier to swallow a pill than running a mile. It is also easier to vomit fast food than thinking of cooking a healthy meal. It is not the one pill you swallow or the one time you purge. It is the ease of these habits that make you repeating them more often. When do you pass the line? How often is too much?

Be aware of that eating disorder victims are crossing the line without knowing it. They still believe they control everything while they already have lost control long time ago. That is what makes eating disorders dangerous.

A slim and healthy body is a great and worthwhile goal. The shortcut leads to anorexia nervosa while the right tips give you a good looking and healthy body and mind. Is it your choice?

Dollie Pagani has written several articles about the pro anorexia web site phenomena and discusses the question of how to become anorexic on here web site at http://www.pro-anorexia.net/

Natural Remedies For Heartburn - A Holistic Approach Part 1

Holistic means whole. It involves treating the entire organism not just the affected area or worse, just the symptoms. Any really effective natural remedy for heartburn has to address the whole body and not just the affected area.

For heartburn and it’s cause, acid reflux, the affected area is the esophagus. This area has to be treated first, starting with the painful symptoms of heartburn. But unlike the regular allopathic approach, holistic treatments go on to work on the entire digestive system as this is intimately linked to acid reflux and heartburn. Finally, to be truly holistic, the whole body must be addressed including the mind and emotions. In this article we’ll look at the first step of treating the affected area when pain strikes.

When heartburn strikes, the natural reaction is to take an antacid. This should be the home remedy of last resort. Stomach acids have an important role to play in digestion and interfering with this is not wise. And very often the cause of heartburn is too little, no too much acid.

So try these alternative remedies first. Not only do they treat the symptoms but they have beneficial effects on overall health too.

The first is to munch on some unsalted raw almonds (sweet not bitter). Sweet, oily and rich in calcium, almonds work on many levels to relieve heartburn. Almonds are also rich in anti-oxidants which help heal affected areas.

Another natural way is to drink the juice of such vegetables as carrots, cucumbers, radishes or beet root. Vegetables are highly alkaline and work wonders on an acid stomach. They are also teeming with anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals to boost the overall health of the body.

Finally when heartburn strikes you should reach for the aloe vera. This coats and heals the digestive tract. Take two cups of aloe vera juice containing 98% aloe vera three times daily between meals. Aloe vera is a nutritional power house which is antiviral, antibacterial, and anti fungal. Plus, it boosts the immune system.

Remember that these natural remedies for heartburn work best in an overall lifestyle program involving eating habits, body weight and many other factors.

So don’t automatically reach for the antacids the next time heartburn rears its ugly head. Try some of nature’s remedies first. And remember that treating the symptoms is the just the first step. Until the whole body is well and balanced, the problem of heartburn is likely to return.

In Part 2 we’ll look at holistic ways to treat the whole digestive system.

Heartburn Symptoms Need Attention

Most people think of heartburn as a normal part of life – uncomfortable, but normal. Everyone they know gets heartburn at one time or another. They know the television ads by heart – the ones that show people thumping or rubbing their chests to indicate they have heartburn. Typically, people take an antacid and suffer until the burning sensation passes.

Heartburn symptoms are indeed common, but that is no reason to treat them too lightly. Heartburn symptoms do not happen by accident. They are a warning issued by your digestive system.

Heartburn symptoms must be considered in the context of their closely-related concerns: acid indigestion, acid reflux, acid regurgitation, non-cardiac chest pain, and sour stomach. Heartburn symptoms should also be considered in relation to GERD symptoms.

Heartburn symptoms closely resemble the symptoms of all the above, especially symptoms of acid.

Frequently-described Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are most frequently described as a burning sensation. Some may say they feel heat or warmth in the upper abdomen. Others describe heartburn symptoms as pain in the lower chest.

Heartburn symptoms occur behind the sternum – the central breastbone. The location, near the heart, is the reason for the name “heartburn,” but the heart is not involved. Some have described their heartburn symptoms as a feeling that the heart is on fire.

In addition to the burning pain, heartburn symptoms can include trouble swallowing, nausea, gas, and bloating.

Heartburn symptoms last as long as 2 hours for some. Some people have difficulty sleeping due to heartburn symptoms.

Why Heartburn Symptoms Need Attention

Heartburn symptoms, whether mild or serious, occasional or frequent, need attention. Let’s look at some of the reasons, beginning with one of the most serious.

1. Heartburn symptoms can feel much like heart attack symptoms. If you have heart disease, or are at risk for heart disease, seek medical attention immediately, even though you believe it may be heartburn. It is not worth risking serious or fatal results.

2. Heartburn symptoms, if frequent, can lead to serious medical concerns such as cancer of the esophagus. The acid that washes back into the esophagus can damage the sensitive linings of the esophagus, and lead to GERD. As it worsens, cancer can develop.

3. Heartburn symptoms are not isolated pain. They occur because something is not right in your digestive system. Heartburn symptoms are warnings. Just as you should not ignore warning lights on you car’s dashboard, you should not ignore the warning provided by heartburn symptoms.

Cause of Heartburn Symptoms

Heartburn symptoms are caused by a malfunction of the sphincter muscle at the bottom of the esophagus. This ring of muscle, the lower esophageal sphincter, is known in shorthand as the LES.

The first job of the LES is to open so that swallowed food can enter the stomach. Its second job is to close quickly to keep stomach food and juices from washing back into the esophagus.

When the LES is weakened, pressured, or relaxes inappropriately, it malfunctions. Stomach juices, and even bits of food, reflux (wash back) into the esophagus. Since the linings of the esophagus are not meant to handle the strong stomach acids, the nerves react with a sensation of burning.

Listen to Heartburn Symptoms

Since heartburn symptoms are the result of a malfunctioning LES, it makes sense to learn why the muscle is malfunctioning.

1. Does it need more oxygen?

2. Does it need more potassium or other electrolyte?

3. Is it dehydrated?

4. Would exercise strengthen it?

When another muscle malfunctions, we treat the muscle to strengthen it. Ask your physician how to strengthen your lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

Heartburn Treatment – Are there Natural Remedy Alternatives?

If you are unlucky enough to suffer from heartburn, and are looking for your first heartburn treatment, you will find that they are many and varied. Yet, despite the large number of suggested heartburn treatment remedies available, large numbers of people continue to report that they have yet to find the miracle heartburn treatment that works well for them on every level.

For those who fall prey to the condition, the symptoms, necessitating heartburn treatment include, gross discomfort and even pain after eating, acid reflux, difficulty sleeping, irritability and high levels of stress. Needless, to say, with these symptoms, summoning up the energy to source out and experiment with alternative remedies in a bid to find the ideal heartburn treatment proves too much of a challenge for many.

So what are the various approaches taken to remedy the condition? Well, at one extreme, in serious cases with complications, where there is no responses to heartburn treatment, surgery is occasionally said to be the answer. In such cases the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus to prevent acid reflux. However for the vast majority, prescription or over the counter drugs are advised.

Typical prescription drug heartburn treatments have fancy names like histamine blockers, proton blockers and promotility agents and are most often prescribed to be taken before eating. It seems especially notable that, though traditional, often antacid prescription drug heartburn treatment does work for some, many, not least of all pregnant women, consider that settling for such pill popping remedies, is too much of a risk to the unborn foetus.

Worrying also is the long lists of side effects that may be associated with any one prescription heartburn treatment. These include anything from headache, nausea, gas, fatigue, sore throat, dizziness and runny nose to abdominal pain, constipation, restlessness and movement problems.

Many, it seems, are also concerned about the fact that often, antacid heartburn treatment is prescribed in conjunction with antibiotics. A single bout of the complaint necessitating one heartburn treatment in isolation would be of little concern. However, the more likely scenario of repetitive episodes over extended time periods necessitating repeat cycles of heartburn treatment would raise the real danger of antibiotic resistance. It seems, therefore, that an alternative heartburn treatment is sorely called for.

With regard to finding a natural heartburn treatment, there are now a small number available which are said to be effective. Naturally the attraction of these are a lack of side effects. In the publication, Stop heartburn Fast, Thomas Dwyer, talks about a heartburn treatment, which he claims can be made up from most kitchen cupboard ingredients. The secret, he claims, is knowing how to combine them in the right proportions. It is claimed that this heartburn treatment has proved especially effective in trials. Dwyer also describes certain types of tea, as working miracles in the field of heartburn treatment, while cautioning that the wrong type of this beverage can make matters far worse.

Poppy Clark runs http://www.oiguru.com a directory of online, “how to,” e-books, audio-books, online video and e-learning

How To Deal With Persistent Heartburn

If you suffer from heartburn at least twice a week and haven’t sought medical advice you could seriously be putting your health in jeopardy. Persistent heartburn is a frustrating condition for many people in fact, in the US alone, staggering statistics suggest almost one sixth of the adult population suffer frequent attacks.

There are ways to lessen the incidence of symptoms but firstly, you need to take the first step and see your doctor.

Symptoms Of Persistent Heartburn

Persistent heartburn means you are experiencing symptoms at least twice week and means something more sinister could be at play. Heartburn is a symptom of GERD and other tell tale signs include:

- difficulty swallowing

- food travelling back into the mouth after swallowing

- burning chest pain

- coughing and sore throat

Obviously seeking medical advice is the best alternative because unchecked, more serious complications could arise. Acid rising back into the esophageal can lead to serious damage overtime. Constant heartburn not treated could result in ulcers in the esophageal or stricture which means the esophageal narrows over time. Worst case scenario may be developing Barrett’s esophagus which in turn could result to esophageal cancer.

Lifestyle Changes

It’s human nature to not want to change a routine, particularly if you are enjoying it and this is why many people treat heartburn as just a common ailment which will pass. But let me ask you this… when you are experiencing an attack don’t you wish you had made an appointment to discuss the frequency of your attacks with him/her?

Remember, persistent heartburn at least twice a week and over a lengthy period of time unchecked could be really undermining your health. Your doctor can discuss and assess your condition and take the appropriate action. If you are still a little shy, try some lifestyle changes. Here’s a few to get you started:

- Consider the food you eat and try to isolate the food which seems to always correspond with an attack. Eliminate it from your diet.

- Watch what you drink. Coffee or alcohol for example. See if a heartburn attack follows the consumption of one or the other or both. If it does, cut it out or moderate.

- Don’t eat late night snacks particularly just before going to bed and preferably not within four hours of turning in.

- Watch your clothes…are they tight fitting? Bad sign for heartburn.

- If your symptoms occur because of your sleeping position try elevating your head a few inches when you go to bed.

These are some common lifestyle changes normally associated with persistent heartburn and if you’ve tried them and your still experiencing frequent symptoms then you really should be seeing your doctor.

Persistent Heartburn Relief

If you suffer constant heartburn and are loathe to talk to your doctor, consider the risks without proper medical advice. Self diagnosis can be a dangerous past time particularly if the treatment methods used only treat the symptoms. You have a number of medical medications available to you as apart from the common antacids, pump inhibitors and H2 blockers designed to prevent and neutralise acid production in the stomach, have proven effective. If your problem is a damaged esophagus then surgery options may need to be considered.

Heartburn Relief Without Drugs

Millions of people worldwide suffer an occasional bout of heartburn. Many of those suffer frequently, and try one product after another to gain heartburn relief. Products range from simple over-the-counter indigestion relievers to prescription drugs for heartburn relief. But is heartburn relief possible without drugs of any kind?

It has been said that only about 1 out of 100 people who take drugs for heartburn relief really need them. Heartburn, like every other pain in your body, is a warning signal. It is telling you that something must be changed.

If the warning light in your car tells you to check your engine, you do not ask a mechanic to disconnect the light so it will not bother you. That is asking for a bigger problem! You ask the mechanic to check the engine, and correct the root problem that causes the light to come on.

Heartburn relief should not be a matter of turning off the “warning light” so you don’t see it. Heartburn relief should address the root cause of the warning light.

Cause of Heartburn

In simple terms, heartburn is a muscular problem.

The lower esophageal sphincter (LES), a specialized ring of muscle located at the end of the esophagus, opens when you swallow to let food pass into the stomach. It then closes quickly to keep things in the stomach. When the LES doesn’t close quickly enough, or reopens at the wrong time, stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. The acid on the sensitive lining of the lower esophagus causes a burning sensation.

True heartburn relief must make the LES operate properly. It must keep the LES from relaxing inappropriately, or it must strengthen the LES. How can that be done?

How can you get true heart relief without drugs?

1. Diet

Heartburn relief must obviously pay attention to the food that is moving from the esophagus into the stomach. We are all different. Our stomachs produce differing amounts of gastric juices, with differing degrees of acidity. The food you eat must be digestible by your individual system.

Returning to our vehicle illustration, what happens when you use improper fuel? It isn’t long until the engine lets you know! If the fuel contains water or sediment, or if the octane level is wrong, you will know. All you have to do is listen to your engine.

Heartburn relief requires listening to your body. The next time you have heartburn, think back to what “fuel” you just put into your body. What did you eat? Write it down and forget it for now. Do this each time you have heartburn. After a month, look over the list. Does the same “fuel” always demand heartburn relief? Avoiding that fuel may be your answer.

2. Actions

The failure of your muscle to keep the door closed between stomach and esophagus may be as simple a matter as your actions. You may be doing things that make the door open.

Eating too fast, eating too much, or not chewing food well can all contribute to heartburn. Bending at the waist after eating is commonly connected to heartburn, as is tight clothing. Allowing yourself to become overweight puts undue pressure on that area of the body, an action best corrected by losing weight. Going to bed on a full stomach or exercising too soon after eating will also call for heartburn relief.

Your heartburn relief may be as simple as changing your actions. Try eating more slowly, and chewing every bite thoroughly before swallowing. This incorporates more saliva, which helps the stomach digest the food. Stop eating before you are too full. Wait at least 2 hours after eating before exercising – at least 3 hours before going to bed. Addressing other actions that put pressure on the lower esophagus may also bring heartburn relief.

3. Water

Another factor in heartburn relief is the consumption of adequate amounts of clean water. If you suffer heartburn during or after exercise, you may simply be dehydrated. Every muscle, including the LES that prevents backflow of stomach juices, needs sufficient water to function well. Be sure you drink plenty of water daily, with extra when exercising.

4. Garlic

Garlic provides heartburn relief for many, especially those who have H. Pylori. H. pylori is a bacterium found in the stomach. It works with acid secretion to damage stomach tissue, causing inflammation and contributing to heartburn. For heartburn relief, try eating 1 or 2 cloves of fresh, raw garlic daily until the H. pylori is eliminated.

5. Oxygen

Have you considered whether you are breathing deeply and regularly? As noted above, the root cause of heartburn is muscular. Muscles demand oxygen for efficient functioning. If, because of stress or poor habits, you fail to breathe deeply and regularly, you deprive the LES of the oxygen it needs to be strong and operate properly.

Heartburn relief for you may be as simple as deep, regular breathing during and after eating. It will help you relax, and will send adequate oxygen to the sphincter muscle that prevents or permits heartburn.

If you experience heartburn on a frequent basis, please contact your physician to be sure other underlying causes are not involved. Once you have ruled out more serious concerns, try the above tips for heartburn relief.
