My heart goes out to all of those touched by the shootings
yesterday at VA Tech. I ask the Angels to be with each person involved and their
families to assist them through this trying time.

As the mother of a son about to enter college, the shootings at VA Tech have had
a deep impact on me. The thought of my child being involved in such an incident
is terrifying. We expect our young adults to be safe at all times, and it is a
slap in the face when we realize they are not as safe as we thought.

I asked my Guides to explain to me why this incident happened. This is the
response I received from Areal, formerly known as my daughter Samantha.

It must be remembered that all of the Souls involved agreed to share this
experience. They each signed up for a role in this amazing play. They each had
their part to play, their job to do, their sacrifice to be made to the greater
good. It is hard to understand when something like this happens that it is for
the greater good, but that is always the case. These beautiful Souls agreed to
have this experience so that the World could get a glimpse of the state our
Collective Consciousness at this time in history.

The children of the World are not being honored. They are being starved, killed
in wars, raped and murdered. All of this goes on daily, but no one pays
attention. No one thinks about how many children starve daily in Africa. No one
thinks about how many children are killed in the Iraq war. No one pays attention
to the news stories in the US about children who are raped, abused and murdered.
Those who read the news stories think to themselves “Oh, how horrible.” but
nothing is done to protect our children.

This incident is an attempt to get Humanity to pay more attention to the
children, protect them and honor them. This is your future and you are allowing
them to be treated with dishonor. How can you have a bright future when you are
allowing the Light of these children to be extinguished?

This incident has another purpose also. Humanity is on a path to destruction at
this time. The Collective Consciousness of humanity does not honor humanity, the
Earth or even life itself. The Collective Consciousness is focused on removing
as many rights from humans as possible. The Collective Consciousness wants more
control, more laws, more government. Instead of bringing humanity together into
One World built on Love, Light and Peace; the Collective Consciousness of
humanity prefers to bring this One World built on fear.

This incident will allow the removal of more freedoms. Cameras will now be
placed on all college campuses. There will be less freedom for the students.
They will be watched and controlled. They will be fed more and more fear until
they are overwhelmed by the fear.

People who are filled with fear are easy to control. They will give away their
freedom without a second thought. They will follow instructions ‘for their own
good’. They will cease to be Self Realized Individuals and become one of the
many, one of the masses, one of the sheeple.

It will take much effort on the parts of the Indigo, Crystal and Rainbow
Children to stay within their power. These beautiful Souls are here to attempt
to change the Collective Consciousness. This event will make their role a bit
more difficult. These Souls will have to remember what they are here for. They
will have to remember always who they are and not allow the Collective
Consciousness to turn them into what they are not.

This event is showing those of the Light how important it is that they come
together and create safe areas for the beings of Light. There is strength in
numbers, and by joining together in communities of Light, they will become
stronger. This has been foretold, and even attempted by the hippies, but so far
has not succeeded. The time is now for a way to be found to succeed. These
communities must be formed and created now. The beings of Light need a place
where they will be safe and nurtured.

The beings of Light who are now on the Earth must stand in their power and take
over their World. They must put their energy into changing the Collective
Consciousness to a consciousness of Love instead of a Consciousness of fear.

It is very important that those of the Light send thoughts and feelings of Love
into the Collective Consciousness daily. Bombard this Collective Consciousness
with as much Love as you can create as often as possible to change it from a
Consciousness of fear into one of Love. This is why you are on Earth at this
time. This is your purpose. Do not ask what you purpose is, it is to fill the
Collective Consciousness with Love so that humanity can make this needed energy
shift from fear to Love. This is how you will Ascend. This is your reason for
being on Earth at this time. Do not allow this vital mission to fail.

Families all around the world, from all walks of life, gathered around their television for the latest breaking news. A famous anchorman had just confessed for the last thirty years he had been a closeted homosexual. Most people did not believe it was true.

It seems that this man had stayed married and was faithful to his wife for over thirty years. Raised a family, saw his children through college and even marriage, he never acted on his feelings for the same sex until now.

Does all the achievements of this man get thrown aside because now he is gay? Does his faithfulness to his wife and children count for nothing? Is the religious right justified when they tell all of their listeners to stop watching this particular man’s broadcast?

What makes a person good or bad? Is it their sexual orientation? Or rather is it what kind of person they are when they face problems. Does the person display integrity? Does he show, by his actions, that he is of high moral character? Is he trustworthy and a person you can count on when you’re going through hard times?

A woman who had committed adultery was brought to Jesus so he would condemn her to death. It was only right for Him to do this because this was the command as written in the Jewish law for handling such women. Instead Jesus shocked the people!

John 8:7, “As they stood there asking him questions, he straightened up and said to them, ‘Which ever one of you has committed no sin may throw the first stone at her.’”

All people involved listened to what Jesus said and allowed the woman to go free without judgment. Jesus had just broken a law by letting this woman go unpunished for her sin. So if this is the case, which Laws of Moses are we suppose to follow and which laws are meant to be broken?

What makes people good or bad? Is it their ability to judge the difference between right and wrong? Or is it how we show compassion while urging a person to look at their life and make their own choice to change.

Jesus asked a Samaritan woman to give Him a drink of water. It was totally forbidden in the Jewish Law to have anything to do with these people. It’s like a gang member talking to one of the rival gangs, it is forbidden and usually results in blood shed. Jesus overstepped these boundaries and broke the law in order to convince this woman to believe that He was the promised Messiah. Jesus crossed ethnic barriers, because he loved all people equally.

Jesus called Matthew, a Jewish man, who was a despised tax collector for the Roman government. Matthew invited him to a meal at his home.

Matthew 9:10-13, “While Jesus was having a meal in Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and other outcasts came and joined Jesus and his disciples at the table. Some Pharisees saw this and asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with such people?’

Jesus heard them and answered, ‘People who are well do not need a doctor, but only those who are sick. Go and find out what is meant by the scripture that says: ‘It is kindness that I want, not animal sacrifices.’ I have not come to call respectable people, but outcasts.’”

What makes a person good or bad? According to Jesus it is not what family you were born into. It is not what sexual sin you committed. It is not about what kind of job you have. It is not about the evil that all men commit. It is about kindness. It is about the love we have for God, who created every good thing on this earth.

When Jesus made this statement, He was actually quoting Hosea.

Hosea 6: 5&6, “That is why I have sent my prophets to you with my message of judgment and destruction. What I want from you is plain and clear: I want your constant love, not your animal sacrifices. I would rather have my people know me than burn offerings to me.”

What makes a person good or bad? It is whether or not that person knows God. A good person loves God. A good person shows compassion to others. A good person does not judge.

We live in a very complicated world where judgment is the reason why we fight wars against other countries. Judgment condemns the murderer. Judgment makes societies, churches, and families throw out their children in the name of sin.

But this is not what Jesus came to teach. Jesus came to proclaim that laws can be broken in the name of kindness and love. Jesus brought a new teaching that changed our world because it wasn’t about condemning people it was about loving people.

Isaiah 56:3-6, “Let no foreigner who has bound himself to the Lord say, ‘The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.’

And let not any eunuch complain, ‘I am only a dry tree.’

For this is what the Lord says: ‘To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant-to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.’”

What makes a person good or bad? According to these scriptures everyone is welcomed into the loving arms of God. Many people do not understand that eunuchs refer to female men. They were gay men that were not attracted to women, this way they could be completely trusted not to commit adultery with the kings wives. The eunuch’s roles in the kingdom was to mange the affairs of high society women.

Why does the Religious Right condemn gay people? Many have never done the research to see they have made wrong judgments. Some have the facts, but are unwilling to stand up to the ones who are in charge of the church denominations. Most would rather turn there backs because when you stand up for truth you are persecuted by those who use churches for their on propaganda.

What makes a person good or bad? A good person speaks the truth and never judges another person. We accept people for who they are and we love our families unconditionally never allowing another person to tell us not to love.

What makes a person good or bad? A bad person is someone who tells us what to believe separate from the real truth. A bad person is someone who is constantly judging. A bad person would rather hate than love.

To know God is to walk into the light of a new understanding. Pick up your Bible and read it. Listen to the Holy Spirit that prompts you to love. Pray and believe that Jesus can and will save you when you are judged unfairly. Remember most of all, God is Love!

I stood before my congregation and spoke with truth about God. I spent sleepless hours praying for the people. I gave hope to those who lost loved ones in war, tragedies of all kinds and sickness. My four year old grandson looked up towards the sky and said, “Hush grandma, I’m praying.” I smiled as I looked into his face realizing that it shone with the bright lights of simple child-like faith. So why does God allow the suffering?

I mean to say he is powerful, loving, wise, and just. Yet the world we live in, is so full of hatred and injustice.The bible, Gods word teaches that “he cares for us, and that God hates wickedness and the suffering it causes far more than any, who has the gift of life through gods loving kindness.(Isaiah 55:8,9)

Common responses, I am sure many have heard is “Its Gods will”, that everything that would happen, including tragic events, have all been predetermined by him long before we existed.How about “God works in mysterious ways” or “He brings death upon people - even children - so as to have them in heaven with him.”

But “far be it from the true god, to act wickedly, and the almighty act unjustly!”(Job 34:10)

The things I have heard over the years,the answers that many religions,in my years of searching have for better word of it,”spat” out of their mouths, with very little thought of what they are saying.

The most important thing, especially in religion is to not be taken away with the hype, the emotions and feelings of the heart. For as the bible says” the heart is treacherous, who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

An absolute must, is to scrutinize everything you learn, keeping your head, so as to ask the questions necessary, to make a decision based on scriptural facts.

But I digress, do you want to know why people blame God for the suffering in this world? In many cases, those that blame god, think that he is the real ruler of this world. But they miss simple but important truth that the bible teaches,and that is the real ruler the world is Satan.

Now before you stop reading, due the fact that you no longer wish to read this blasphemous article,use the very thing god gave you, think about it, it makes sense. The world is only reflecting the one who rules it, of the very personality that is misleading the entire inhabited earth.(Revelation 12:9)
It says in (1John 5:19) “The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.”

Satan is the epitome of all that is evil, he is hateful, deceitful, and cruel. The world under his influence, is all these things.
One reason why there is so much suffering.

The second reason why there is so much suffering, is that mankind is imperfect, sinful since the rebellion in the garden of Eden. Its no big secret that we as humans tend to struggle for dominance, resulting in wars, oppression and suffering.(Ecclesiastes 4:1;8:9)

There is also “Time and unforeseen occurrence” (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
Without God as a protective ruler, people may suffer, because they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Still why does he allow the suffering?
God is more than capable of stopping it. So why?

Those we are close to are related to us in complex ways, historically, biologically, and in terms of soul-connection. Yet often, what outpictures on the level of the physical, does not reflect the intensity and meaningfulness of the soul connection that has brought us into proximity with another, whether for a few moments or for a lifetime.

Where the bond is strong and one of commitment, we tend to assume that there is a deeper connection. However, what is actually true is that this connection exists even where relationships do not function smoothly or carry a great deal of difficulty. Even in such cases, the soul connection may be one of a purely positive nature, though many serious problems or challenges may be manifesting on the physical plane.

The confusion about levels of relationship comes up commonly in two ways: when we feel a deep heart connection with someone, whether for a few moments or for many years, and this sense of connection is not reciprocated or acknowledged by the other, or, when we have a great deal of difficulty with another or suffer at the hands of another, and wonder why they are in our lives and what, that is positive, could be the purpose of such a relationship. In both cases, we are presuming a relationship on a different level that is the explanation or cause for what we are experiencing.

The truth of soul relationships is more complex than most are aware of at this point. On the one hand, what one soul recognizes may not be what another is capable of perceiving at a given point in time. This does not make the relationship or connection untrue. It just means that the other is bound in their perception by limitations on the personality level and cannot register or be aware of the deeper currents of relatedness. The discrepancy between our own perception of things and that of someone else can lead to disappointment and even to sorrow if we do not understand that what exists at the soul level has to find its way into physical expression in its own way and time. In some instances this may not happen nor serve the highest good within a particular lifetime.

Similarly, with relationships that have a strong negative component, whether familial or introduced by external circumstances into our life. Souls never come together to harm each other. They always come together in order to further each other’s learning on the level of the heart and spirit. No matter who we encounter in life, especially in the context of a long-term connection, the other soul is crossing our path in order to convey something that we have chosen to learn. What this is, involves the mystery of embodied experience, and can shape the course of a lifetime.

Suffice it to say that often, the direction we think things should go in with another, does not become the direction that they actually go in. This is not because the inner connection is not there or is faulty, but because the point of meeting with another brings into awareness for each participant, the portion of meaning they are capable of holding in the present, and what is true within the perception of one person may not be true for the other.

Souls, in their desire and capacity to help each other, may also choose periods of time apart from each other. Sometimes the separation is what is needed in order to further the relationship. Sometimes, the learning that takes place can only take place with periodic or intermittent contact with another. In addition, there are many levels of meeting or contact between souls. Souls have the capacity of meeting not just on the physical plane, but on the plane of dreams which, for many, involves actual meetings that are conducted within the energy-body while asleep. The kind of communication and support that can take place through these non-physical meetings can be quite significant. They can further or continue a relationship, even where one participant has left their body through death. This is because those who have departed are still connected with us as souls and can choose, for various reasons, to meet us within our energy or dream bodies while asleep so that we may share further experience as part of an ongoing relationship.

Where souls are meeting primarily in the dream body as opposed to the physical body, it can happen either because the inner directives of one soul have caused them to depart from the physical plane while the other remains. It can also be caused by limitations on the level of the personality that prevent a soul from acknowledging the connection with another due to defensiveness, fear, or simply to a lack of awareness within the existing personality of what the soul knows on its own level. And so the inner connection is maintained when the personality has less say over making contact, generally at night, but sometimes also during the day. At these times we may experience the presence of others with us where it seems that there is an intentionality to their being there and a desire to communicate in words or through feeling. Becoming able to listen and to hear these communications without fear or self-invalidation, but with a sense of wanting to help and to love, is a task of the maturing soul that opens the door to the many faceted relationships that exist within the spiritual universe.

Finally, let it be said that souls also meet outside of their physical bodies because of the level of their spiritual development and their increased capacity to do so in an intentional way. These meetings are part of the growing development of consciousness to manifest reality in a myriad of ways.

In the end the connections with others on the level of the soul enrich life immeasurably, and add to the dimension of the physical, the dimension of the spiritual in ways that will one day become quite natural and commonplace, which, for today, may seem the exception.

17) When this Mahashakthi (great power) decided to leave the previous body in 1918 (meaning Shirdi Sai Baba), Kaaka Saheb Dikshit was told that in 8 years’ time this will take birth again. Abdul Baaba was also informed that in 7 years this will appear in Madras State. Three months after the Samaadhi, (burial) appearing before a house at Kirkee, the declaration was made in answer to a query that the body had passed away, “The body has gone, but I will appear again.” It was said 6 months after the Samaadhi, when there was an appearance at Dwaarakaamaayi with familiar tin can. Word was sent to Das Ganu and Mahalsapathi. The statement made to Kaaka Saheb was that the Manifestation will take place after 8 years, not “as an eight year old body.” It was recorded so, because Kakaa Saheb relied on his memory and wrote it down only much later. The figure 7 came true; for this body incarnated in 1926 after spending 10 months in the womb. So even the statement of 8 years made to Kakaa Saheb is true.

18) Wherever you are, when you wholeheartedly seek to do namaskaaram (obeisance) to Me, My feet are there, before you! Raama, Krishna, Shirdi Sai, this Sathya Sai Baaba; that Form is so, this Form is thus – why all such misgivings and doubts? The body is the same, only the dress worn is different. Do not be led away into the morass, by others.

19) Instead of reforming you without your knowledge, it is better to reform you with your own co-operation and knowledge. Yesterday night, at a party, a neurologist friend of mine, who is a self-proclaimed atheist with a very cutting intellect, asked: “Bhasu, I don’t know what you write on religion, but I’ve been so strongly against religion that I can’t imagine what it means?” I said, “True. If you are against religion how can you understand it? If you are for religion, then too you cannot understand it”. I could clearly see that he was at first not amused , but intrigued he certainly was.

I continued, “People who are for and against can never understand because they have decided a priori - without experiencing they have decided. Prejudice is a big blockade to learning discipline of any kind for that matter”, and added, “Wonder how you became such a renowned neurologist, and if you really are one, then your statement is contradictory. How could you otherwise learn your subject?”. It drew an interested audience, and this is how it went, which I would like to share.

“If you have decided God exists, you will never be able to know him. If you have decided God does not exist, how can you know him”? The very mention of the word ‘God’ seemed to send an electric current, the size of a big shock, in him. “Let’s talk modern age, man”, he interjected. “Okay”, I said, “I wouldn’t for a moment deny that ours is a very different age. Yet, I can’t help feel that in our self-obsesed, matter of fact, take-it-as-it-happens approach we’ve lost the ability to admire, leave aside praise, an opponent. We’re so full of our own success we ignore the valour or gallantry of the other. Even sportsmen, who de rigueur shake hands after a match, only rarely praise their fallen combatant. If they do, it’s largely because it’s expected of them”.

“Learn to admire. Be more vulnerable. Don’t be prejudiced, don’t decide. Experience, and let experience be decisive. Once you are surrounded by your prejudice, your prejudice will become a screen, and will not allow you to see that which is”.

Still it was not so well taken because, by now I could see the strain on some of their faces, and then of course that common human weakness, that desperate search for words that minimize what they are not intended for at all, made the doctor say, “I consider these bloody religionists idiots”. “Right you are”, I agreed, “the word ‘idiot’ is beautiful. It comes from the root ‘idiom’ which means ‘one who lives a private life’. The world is going one way and you are going another: then you are an idiot.” Only idiots have their private goal! You are moving on your own, not with existence, not in rhythm with existence.

“See…”, the medic now argued, “My existence means money. My existence means fame, political power, etc. etc. So, we are living with existence. How can you say that the ardent votaries, who go on denouncing all these, are living with existence? They don’t. They should be called idiots, and although I pray, and sort of believe in God, I find them hypocrites”. Chancing upon that little opening he made, I said, “You believe in a God so that He would protect what you have acquired. I earn, and God please look after, that’s the attitude. If someday you came to face God, and he asked you ‘What were you seeking?’ and you say, ‘Money’, God will not understand. He may have never heard the word. Probably a Ricardo, or Galbraith, or AdamSmith would be able to explain. For God, the whole existence lives without money, except man! And existence does not seem to be idiotic”.

“And political power? God will not understand that either. He will ask, ‘For what’? Why in the first place should one be ever mad after power? And I have given you all the power you need, given you all the possibilities to be blissful. For what were you wasting those opportunities, life?…and sacrificing everything for some foolish stupid thing?” Man has created his own idiocies.

“The way of the religion” means not to be idiotic - not have any private goal stretching into madness. The universal goal is enough. Be in tune with it, be together with it. Don’t fight it; flow with it. Religion means that which puts you together, so that you are not torn apart in fragments; it is to become integrated”. I knew he had a broken family, those typical trivial, trifling, stifling problems of the ego, when one becomes too successful, but is often broken from inside. And, this seemed to make some sense for him. “I think you are right on that point, partner”, he murmured almost inaudibly, thinking of some far-away thoughts.

Religion is the science of how to find that forgotten language of the ecstasy. Whenever you are in tune with existence, there is ecstasy, there is bliss, there is benediction.

Chemistry and mathematics, and an MBA among others. But I found that
my education, even though it helped tremendously, did
not bring real satisfaction. So I put the certificates
and diplomas in the bathroom under glass and wrote,
“Break in Case of Emergency.”

Then I started working for Fortune 500 companies and
became intrigued with those who frequented the
boardrooms of power and fame. And though a part of me
was fascinated, thrilled and even enjoyed the trappings
of power, there was something that was missing, which I
couldn’t put my finger on. My heart and spirit were
crying out for something that I couldn’t find in major
corporations.

Still searching for the “Holy Grail” I became an
entrepreneur and built a very successful,
multi-national business with offices in the United
States, the Caribbean, Africa, India and the United
Kingdom. Life seemed good. I traveled the world, wined
and dined with leaders of industry and even leaders of
countries. I was treated as a prince, but still it all
felt empty and useless.

Wherever I sought for peace and prosperity and
happiness, I’d find prosperity without the peace or I’d
discover abundance without the happiness. Finally, one
day, as I sat on my wife’s deathbed (she was only in
her thirties when she died), it became clear to me that
my happiness, peace and prosperity were not dependent
on anything external, but on that which was within me,
that which had always been with me from my very first
day on Earth.

So I started to look within me and discovered a
wonderland beyond imagination. I realized that the one
spiritual practice more important than all the others
that could bring me peace, happiness and prosperity was
the practice of going into the “silence” deep within
me. Some call it meditation or prayer, others refer to
it as contemplation or centering oneself. I do not know
what it should be called, but I think of it as the
“silence”.

In the great silence within, I become renewed,
refreshed and excited to face the physical world. When
I return from my moments of silence or meditation, I
feel great waves of joy. I feel peaceful, secure and
safe. Perhaps in the depths of my being, there is a
place of beautiful silence where I meet my Creator and
where I find renewal of body, mind and spirit. Perhaps
true success and peace emanate from this silent
sanctuary.

Many years ago, I wrote the following:
“Whenever problems seem to get the best of me, whenever
I feel them closing in on me, I go to a quiet place
that lies somewhere in my soul. I do not reason,
analyze or think. Those will come later. I simply go.
From this place of silence, I garner strength and
inspiration to stand firm in the face of fire, to be
calm in the midst of thunder. When I emerge, the world
has not changed, but I have. And in changing, a whole
new world is born.”

I find that is as true today as when I first wrote it
or thought it. Success, whichever way we define it,
whether by money standards, health or happiness
standards, is not a game of chance. It springs from
deep within us, from our deepest thoughts and beliefs.
It has to do with our fears and hopes and it flows
eternally from our spiritual center of gravity.

Go into the silence within you. Try to do so a number
of times each day. Let your true self speak to you.
Listen to the “still, small voice”, which is always
there. You will find calm, peace and prosperity unknown
in ordinary times. You’ll find a new and joyous path
opening ahead of you and you’ll be delighted in the
glorious adventures that await around the corner.

A good percentage of the time the most common sense
principles are the ones most disregarded. Perhaps, it’s
because we are so intent on making a living that we
forget about making a life.

One of the most forgotten principles for personal
success is a word ignored by almost everyone–Goodwill.
It is a principle so underused, yet so powerful, that
it could take us to the heights of success. It remains
underused because people overlook the disarming power
disguised in subtle terms such as compassion, kindness,
empathy, unselfishness and caring.

In marketing classes in MBA school, we learned many
useful things about advertising strategy, marketing to
consumers, studying statistics of a sales campaign and
getting the order. To this day, I use the tools of the
trade to help me in my business. But one thing that
hardly anyone touched upon was the concept of
“Goodwill.”

Goodwill is not just a number on the accountant’s
balance sheet, but is an invisible, little-used tool
that all of us have at our disposal. Let me explain.
Most of us could help solve someone else’s problems,
either with a telephone call, an introduction or
referral, a signature or other obvious means. But we
refuse to do it. Why? I’ll tell you why. Because we
feel there’s nothing in it for us! Or we are afraid to
get involved.

Let me tell you a true story. It was many years ago. A
young woman walked into my assistant’s office. She was
looking for a job, but we had none to offer. Just the
week before, all job vacancies had been filled.

At the request of my assistant, I spoke with the young
woman. She only wanted to work for the summer and then
would complete her last semester of graduate school and
return home to her country. She had been looking for a
summer job for almost four weeks. No one wanted to hire
her and train her to work for such a short period of
time.

I remembered my days as a graduate student and felt her
anxiety. Although there was no sound business reason to
do so, I told my assistant to create a job for her.
Afterall, she needed help and it felt good to help
someone without figuring what was in it for me.
I hardly saw her until the last day when she came into
my office to say goodbye. She thanked me again for the
job and handed me a business card.

“This is my father’s card,” she said, “If you ever
visit my country, call my dad, he’d be very happy to
meet you. I’ve told him all about how kind you and your
employees were to me. In my country, my dad is a member
of Parlianment and an important man.”

And that’s how I ended up having lunch with the mayor
of Nairobi, dinner with the Vice President of Kenya and
making business alliances that brought my company
profits hundreds of times greater than the salary we
had paid for summer help.

On top of that, I enjoyed going on photo safari to the
Serengeti Plains of East Africa, walking along the
beaches of Mombassa and sipping Pimms#3 at the Mount
Kenya Safari Club, while enjoying the fantastic view of
the snow-covered summit of Mount Kenya. Even the Kikuyu
dancers reminded me of exciting adventures in foreign
climes.

This is not an isolated case. It’s just one of the more
obvious ones. You never can tell who will lead you to
that next contact, that profitable contract or the
added financing you were looking for. It is important
that we treat everyone with dignity and respect.
REMEMBER: Business does not do business with other
businesses. People do business with people.

The Internet is not about computers, technology or even
marketing. That would be like saying cars are about the
internal combustion engine and the laws of
thermodynamics. The Internet is about people and
communications. If we communicate with honesty and
feelings, we’d find that most others respond in kind.

So whenever the opportunity arises, do something for
someone else who is powerless to do it alone. Don’t
worry about what you are going to get out of it. The
Universe has a way of repaying in ways far too strange
to understand. Earn “goodwill” and you’ll prosper
beyond belief.

The Real Secret

Tom was a wonderful human being. He was kind, caring
and helpful to all those who sought his assistance. The
only problem was …. that most of us did not like to be
around Tom. Much as he tried to be a “good” person,
there was always an aura of doom and gloom around him.
It didn’t matter whether he was speaking with you on
the phone or sitting across the table from you, you
just would get the feeling that the world was coming to
an end or that your life would be in a terrible mess.
Were you to spend an hour with Tom, you’d feel that all
your energy was drained out of you.

Now, mind you, as I said earlier, Tom was a caring
person. The problem was, however that Tom carried
around with him a “cloud of negativity” born of
desperation. His was definitely a desperate matter.
It didn’t just stop when he got off the phone. The
emptiness in your stomach, the low energy would persist
for quite a while until you eventually forgot about
him. That is how powerful the feeling of desperation
is. It has the power to turn off the brightest light in
our lives.

Desperation broadcasts a very strong message to all
within our sphere of influence. It even goes beyond
that to people who are meeting you for the first time.
Business associates tend to shun you, partners want to
avoid you, everyone — even little children — feel
uncomfortable around you.

So what do you do if situations and circumstances seem
hopeless and your fears force you into desperation?
Simple, but not easy. First, try to slow your thoughts
down. You are desperate because of the incessant,
negative self-talk, which has taken over your entire
being. Slow the internal conversation down. Take a
break from whatever you’re doing — even if it’s for a
few minutes.

Next, breathe deeply a few times, not any special count
like breathe in for a count of seven, hold for a count
of five and then breathe out for a count of seven. Do
that if you want, but it’s not necessary. Just slow
breathing, in and out, will lower the tension in the
body, mind and spirit to a more manageable pace.
Realize that things are as they are, but can be
changed. You can change them by becoming quiet within
yourself and then listening to the feelings you have.
Ask yourself if there is anything you can do about the
problem at this moment.

You will get one of two answers. Either “yes” or “no.”
If the answer is “yes,” go ahead and do what you can.
If the answer is “no,” then go do something else or
maybe even nothing. This simple exercise is a practice
in patience and will tune-up the mind and make it
possible for you to find creative ways for your problem
to be resolved. And it will be resolved in ways that
sometimes may seem magical.

Now, I realize it is not easy to conquer desperation
with the flip of a switch or the snap of the fingers.
Having been in the middle of it many times, I
discovered that it generally takes courage and practice
to overcome. Of course, most of us can’t stop worrying
by telling ourselves not to worry.

But we can put a time limit on it. A simple trick I use
is this: I acknowledge that the situation is bad and I
say to myself, “John, this seems to be really terrible
— really, really bad. But it may only appear that way
because you’re desperate and scared right now. It’s OK
to be scared for a little while. However, don’t spend
all day being frightened or desperate. Take 30 minutes,
an hour, even a few hours if you like. Be as desperate
as you want for that period of time. Then drop it and
go on with other things.” Just practice this whenever
you feel scared and desperate.

And Tom, what about Tom? Well, He continues to call.
He’s exhausted all the time. Desperation, you see,
consumes all his energy. I tried to show him that there
is always hope, that his problems would let go of him
when he got quiet enough to loosen his grip and let go
of them. I tried to teach him to breathe slowly and to
get quiet inside. He listened, became quiet for ten
seconds and went right back to worrying.

Other friends tried to help him, but he would not let
go of his problems. I came to believe that Tom thought
he would have no purpose here on Earth if he did not
have things to worry about. I tried to tell him that it
was fine to be happy and that we did not need anything
to make us happy. But he would not let go and give
himself permission to be happy.

I imagine there’s a little of Tom in all of us.
Desperation will, every once in a while (and sometimes,
more often) raise its ugly head. If we reach out and
embrace it, it would take us down. If we look through
it, we would find that we are always safe, that the
Universe is on our side and that one of the ingredients
of success is that word, “trust”.

Let us trust the process of life. As has been said many
times before, “It’s not the destination, it’s the
journey.” I wish Tom well. When he comes to himself,
slows down and really sees what’s happening, he will
say, as Pogo did in the swamp, “We have met the enemy
and he is us.” He would discover that it was all just a
matter of desperation.
