Copywriters - The New 2007 Athletes

‘No Risk; No Reward’ was the tagline for a boxing match between James Toney and Samuel Peter. And it reminded me-copywriting is a lot like boxing.

At first blush it may sound ridiculous to compare a hard-slugging athlete primed for pain to a solitary marketer pecking away at the keyword. But there actually are many similarities. Let me explain:

1) Both require a strong mental game.

If a boxer is not mentally prepared, he is toast. He can be his own worst enemy in the ring as he stops punch after punch with his face. Same with marketers. Just try to work on your marketing when you are not in the mood. Tough, ain’t it? The words come out all wrong. Your marketing is dull, limp, and lifeless. So your sales suffer. It is all on you to keep your head in the game.

2) Both require systematic training.

Sure a boxer can study tapes of former fights and talk to other boxers over time about what they did to become champions. But sooner or later without an effective coach to show him how to eat, how often to work out, what exercises to do and so on, the chances of being a winner are slim to none. Learning to effectively market and write copy can also be learned by studying the masters and talking to other marketers - eventually. But it will take years of heartache and mistakes. It is so much easier to follow a system that already works for someone who has been there so you can avoid the pitfalls.

3) Both require decisive action.

At the end of the day, you are the RESULT of what you have put into your goals. In other words, everything you are today is because of choices you made in your past. Those decisions all added up to whatever your station in life is today. Whether you are a boxer by himself in the ring, or a copywriter putting together a kick-butt marketing campaign, to get results, you must decide what you want first, then go get it! You cannot just HOPE for results. No matter what your goals, you must take action and put in your training time.

There aren’t any shortcuts.

How To Practice For Public Speaking Success

Public speaking success unfortunately doesn’t just happen by itself. Practicing your speech in advance of the big day isn’t optional - it’s essential! It will make the difference between walking a tightrope of mental anxiety, never feeling fully sure footed and knowing if you’re going to trip up- and being a confident, compelling presenter who feels and looks in control.

There are some things you can do to help your practice no end:

Really know your content. Don’t ever be tempted to wing it - that ‘flying by the seat of your pants’ feeling is rarely exhilarating - and is usually terrifying when facing a group of people looking expectantly at you! As a bare minimum, know what you are going to say, what your keys points are and how you will open and close your talk. You cannot be over informed about your subject. Learn as much about it as you can. That’s not to say to have to be the font of all knowledge, but knowing a subject really well will help your confidence and your ability to make compelling arguments.

Have your visual aids prepared and have a run through using them. - I know it sounds obvious but I’ve seen too many people create their PowerPoint presentation or have some lovely visual aids and then fall apart because they’ve not used them as part of their speech or had a proper run through with them. This is especially important if you’re using something that can be a bit temperamental - like technology. There is no rule that says ‘thou must use PowerPoint’ - but it can be very effective especially if you’re speaking to large numbers. But if you are speaking to a smaller group, consider if it’s the best medium for you - perhaps a flipchart would be better or some coloured handouts.

Find a quiet place where you can be uninterrupted. Stick a sign on the door if you have to but make sure no one will disturb you. It’s very difficult to relax and really practice what you’re going to do if you’re worried that someone’s going to interrupt your flow. OR…

Practice with someone else - this is actually my preferred method but I know it takes a bit of a leap of faith to overcome your shyness if you’re just starting out presenting. Having that outside eye is a fantastic way of discovering how you really perform - both good and bad. If you’re feeling especially nervous, practicing in front of a trusted colleague, partner or friend can be a good way of gaining some valuable positive and constructive feedback - but beware of choosing someone who is overly critical. You want some balanced constructive feedback - not a list of all the things you did wrong! Help your partner out by giving them guidance on what you’d most like feedback on - how well you project your voice? How you use your visual aids? Are your key points clear? What is your timing like? By guiding them you can often get better quality feedback than just leaving it open ended.

Practice as if you are going to doing it for real - so this will usually involve standing and saying your speech out loud. It will sound very different than just running it through in your head. Standing has an effect on the amount of oxygen you will be using, and how your voice will sound. It will give you a better indication of where you need to put pauses and emphasis than if you were sat down. It also helps to create a positive memory for your to recall later of actually being stood and talking.

If at all possible, practice in the room your going to be giving your speech. Different rooms have different ‘feels’ to them which will effect how far your voice will carry and how ‘big’ you have to make your presense to be heard.

Tape yourself. We all sound very different inside our heads than we do to others. That weird sound on the tape recorder that doesn’t sound like your voice? Well, actually that’s how it sounds to everyone else when it’s not filtered through the internal acoustics of our heads. You need to gain an understanding of how your presentation will sound to others. For example, often our nerves make us speed up our speech - but presenters often don’t realise by just how much because they’re brains are also running a bit fast. Listening to yourself can help you to gauge what speed you talk so that you can slow it down to a more manageable pace for your audience. Focus too on where you are placing emphasis on certain words, where you can pause for dramatic effect,

One word of caution is to not over rehearse to the point where you can recite your speech word for word - or even close to it. You want your audience to feel that this is a genuine conversation you’re having with them, filled with passion and verve. This tends to get rehearsed out if you go over things too much. It’s much better to make sure you are confident in your content and you’re key points and the rest will follow from there.

Okay, it’s no secret that article marketing is one of the
best way to get thousands of dollars in free advertising
for your internet business. It’s also know that article marketing is becoming more and
more popular amongst internet marketers which means that
the competition is at an all time high.

So how in the world can a newbie to article marketing get
in on some the action and actually benefit from writing
and submitting articles as a way of getting free traffic
and advertising?

Well, here is the best article marketing tip ever given
and if you use it, you are guaranteed to explode your
traffic, sales, and efforts. The tip is this: Use each and every article that you
write and submit as way to build your opt in list.

That’s it. The best article marketing tip you will ever
get. If you use your articles as a way to collect the
name and email address of a percentage of the readers,
you will be in control of your own financial future.

There are many other article marketers that would argue
this tip, especially those who are using bum marketing
to bring in sales for affiliate products. You know what bum marketing is don’t you? That’s where
you write and submit a batch of articles centered around
a particular product.

Then at the end of the article, you send them readers
to the product web site. If they buy, you make money
if they don’t, you lose. This is where many people in my opinion are making the
biggest mistake ever.

Why spend your time and energy on the hope of the one
time sale when you drive that same reader to your simple
opt in squeeze page, offer them a great free ebook or
report, get their name and email address, then follow up
with them forever.

If you use article marketing to build your build a large
responsive opt in list, you will profit from it for as
long as you want. Give it a try and see the results for yourself.

Teleseminars - Building A List By Holding Free Teleseminars On A Regular Basis

You can build your list through the teleseminars you give on a regular basis. This can be done with free teleseminars as well as with paid ones. There are many ways to use this method in order to build your list of highly responsive and qualified prospects. Here are some of the ways that have worked the best for me.

  • I write articles that send people to my sign up page to register for a free teleseminar. When they sign up they are then subscribed to my list. I offer a free teleseminar each week, so any time someone reads one of my articles, even if it is months from now, there will still be a call for them to sign up for.
  • Google Adwords is a pay-per-click program that allows you to bid on keywords for your topic. When people click over to your site from an ad on Google, they can opt-in to your list to get more information from you. Again, I am always offering them a free teleseminar so I am willing to pay twenty or thirty cents to Google so that a new prospect can easily find me.
  • In my signature line I include my website and an invitation for someone to sign up for my next teleseminar. I use this signature line in my emails, on my business card, and when I visit forums and other online groups. It is also included in my resource box when I submit an article to an article directory.
  • When I make a post to my blog I again offer people the opportunity to join my list through signing up for a teleseminar. This way, readers can find out more about me from what I have written on my blog, as well as join me for my next call.

Using these methods will increase your list very quickly. I encourage you to use some of these strategies in your online business.

And now I invite you to join me for my free weekly teleseminars that will teach you how to write, market, and sell your articles and ebook to increase your visibility, credibility and passive income by visiting http://www.EbookWritingandMarketingSecrets.com

6 Steps to Getting Your Book Published

Before starting your book proposal, make sure that you have a strong book concept, an interesting approach and a catchy title.

Clearly identify your market, your niche, and understand what your proposal is intended to achieve. Make sure that your book is of the best quality:

that it is interesting, well written, and filled with information that will really help readers.

*** 6 Action Steps****

1. Be honest. Does the world need another book on your topic? Check bookstores and get in the know about what books exist.

If you think that your book is better and brighter, then perhaps it’s meant to be.

2. Don’t let anyone talk you out of your dream. If you believe in your idea and it does not exist, then don’t postpone success.

Many agents have turned down ideas and said, “It’s just a magazine article,” but those ideas sold.

3. Search online. Search everywhere. Talk to bookstore owners; see what’s out there. Study your competition.

Learn what other authors have done. Were their books successful?

4. Research your book’s title. You might be surprised to find that your title already exists. Was it on your topic?

The same title could be used for a book for kids and one about pets. Don’t rule out a great title, but make sure that your book won’t be confused with or be considered derivative to another book unless that’s your intent.

5. Create an outline. Outline your book and see if you are still glued to the project after you set up what your chapters are about, etc. Sometimes people discover they really don’t have a great deal to say, whereas others find the proof in the outline.

6. Write a Dear Reader letter. Try this assignment: write a letter to your reader and state what you plan to deliver in your book. It’s a promise to the reader. You’ll know after writing this letter and sharing it with others if there’s a burning passion in you to write this book.

Then, keep your promise!

Article Marketing - A Simple But Powerful Promotion Skill

Article marketing is a valuable method of getting traffic to your website. In case you’re not familiar with it, article marketing is basically the process of writing articles and submitting them, along with links back to your website, to article reprint directories on the internet.

You’re probably quite aware of the value of having fresh content on your website and blog. Many people who own websites visit article reprint directories on a regular basis to get new content for their sites.

When you submit your article to these directories, you’re giving permission for other people to use your article on their site - for free. The catch is, they have to include an “about the author” section at the end of each article they use. This can include information about your website and links back to it.

When your article gets used on someone’s website, everyone who reads the article sees your author bio and the links back to your website. A good article can wind up on hundreds of websites, where many people can read it. And how many of those people could click your link and visit your website?

These article directories are easy to find. Just do a Google search for free article directories and you’ll find a bunch. Some of them are specific to certain topics, while others will accept articles on almost any subject. You can submit your article to multiple directories and you can even get software that will automate the process for you.

You have virtually unlimited topics to write about. What is your website about? Get creative in thinking up topics. If someone would want to visit your website to learn something, write an article about that.

Someone who sells Tupperware for instance, could easily write about food related items or take it a step further an write an article about the fact that the plastic containers are great for organizing toys, bathroom items or even nuts and bolts in the garage.

If you don’t like writing, it’s not the end of the world. You can hire ghostwriters to write the articles for you, for anywhere from $5 to $20 for a 500 word article. Once you give the ghostwriter the topic and any keywords you want to target, they’ll do all the writing for you. And some will even do the submission to the article directories so you can spend your time on other tasks.

Stop giving your content away for free - get paid for your article marketing. Find out how you can get paid for submitting articles with the internet’s first viral article network. Visit http://www.articlesgoneviral.com for more information about how you can make money with your articles.

Amazing Article Marketing - 7 Lucrative Methods To Explode Your Article Marketing

Right now, I’d like to offer you a condensed, brief crash course on article marketing and writing and quickly demonstrate to you how these little “viral cash generating goldmines” can instantly increase your traffic and sales.

Forget everything you were taught in English class. Writing articles Is “meatball writing”. You want to write in your own style and at an 8th grade reader level…

Here are 7 effective tactics for explosive article marketing:

1. Don’t try to impress your readers with your sheer intelligence.

2. Don’t use big words when you can use much simpler, shorter words that have the same meaning.

3. Don’t bore your readers! Add some sizzle and spice.

4. Be unique and show your personality! Don’t be afraid to be yourself.

5. Always keep your articles short, sweet, concise… and to the point. Each article should be about 300 to 700 words.

6. When adding articles (as content) to your website, you can make your article as long as you’d like, however when submitting to article directories to promote your affiliate products and or your own sites you want to follow their strict guidelines which usually involve a specific maximum word count and format.

7. Use bulleted points and break up lines of text with transitional effects like this… and this — or use (parenthesis like this) to make it easier on your reader’s eyes.

And always try to keep this vital tips in mind as well when writing…

A well marketing article should consist of short sentences and short paragraphs, bulleted points and sub-headings, each addressing a specific point of topic in your article.

There should be lots of white space within your article body. Most people look at large blocks of text and will go away from your article very quickly. You do not want to lose your reader.

Good Speakers Are Made, Not Born

Good speakers become great speakers with the proper training. Investing in professional speaker training can greatly improve your bottom line.

There is no downside to improving your speaking skills.

The key to effective speaking boils down to one thing: The ability to be able to tell a compelling story. I was taught years ago that effective advertising was reduced down to the acronym A-I-D-A, which stands for 1.) Attract their ATTENTION. 2.) Stimulate their INTEREST 3.) Create DESIRE and 4.) Move them to ACTION.

Creating an effective speaking presentation is not much different than those guidelines. When we speak, we are actually selling. We are trying to communicate or get someone to adopt truths, facts, inspire action, etc. How many times has someone in your life said to you, “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”? Most of us have heard that. We have all worked with very accomplished, well-educated people who are absolutely brilliant in their field, but when they spoke, they almost put us to sleep. How many of us have listened to an individual who was charismatic, compelling, and attractive and then when it was all done, you ask yourself, “What did they just say?” or you don’t remember a thing they said. It was all show with no substance. To get on the road to more effective speaking, you must master what you say AND how you say it. The best way is in a story-type format. In my sales training over twenty years ago I was taught that “facts tell, stories sell”.

Stories or story-type speaking bring a message to the heart and mind of the audience. One such method is what I call the PSOx3 speaking template. It is a no-brainer method for creating compelling speeches. This stands for presenting a Problem, Solution, and Outcome and doing it three times during the presentation. This humanizes the presentation and it allows the listener to relate to the issue presented. It creates a mental picture which makes the topic more memorable. Here’s an example. Let’s use a motivational topic that goes like this; “John Smith had only twenty dollars in his pocket. He was laid off with no possibility of being rehired. His position was outsourced overseas. He had two kids in private school and a baby at home. His wife worked part-time three days a week.

They could not make it on her income alone. They only had enough financial cushion to pay their bills for about three months. He knew he had to make something happen, and do it quickly. One day after paying his bills he actually had to make a decision whether to fill up his gas tank or buy groceries. This was the turning point in his life. It was either cave in to the desperation and depression or rise to the occasion and go into business for himself. He felt no one was going to hire an over-40 professional like him at the salary he had been accustomed to. One day while reading newspaper, he read a story about how a large percentage of attorneys were not getting the clientele they desired. He spotted a need. Problem leads to profit. He was skilled in writing marketing materials for a large company for the past twenty years. Why couldn’t he do it for another industry?, he asked himself.

This lead him to make his first phone call to a local attorney who confessed that his business was slow and he was at odds in how to get more clientele and increasing his referrals. John made an appointment with that attorney. He became John’s first client. That was 250 clients and three years ago. John’s now has three employees that all work as independent contractors from their homes. He also works out of his home. He and his staff meet in person once a week for brainstorming sessions to give the virtual company a more human feel.”

Now when you read the story of John, in a very short period of time, you are pulled in to his plight, feel his despair, and experience the hope he has with the advent of his new business. When this story is told, as opposed to just telling facts, you feel for John. When it is presented with pauses, increases and decreases in speech volume, and the appropriate body gestures, you are well on your way to creating a memorable speech. As in a good TV screenplay, you can clearly identify the problem, solution, and the outcome. The story of John is one you remember and isn’t that the reason why we do presentations at our work, places of worship, and service organizations?

Sizzling Article Marketing - 4 Mind-Blowing Tactics To Supercharge Your Article Marketing

Here’s the type of marketing article you might write. Try to write a product or service review with every article if at all possible. People love reviews because they don’t feel like you are selling anything to them.

Here are 4 mind-blowing tactics to supercharge your article marketing:

1. Let’s say you have an affiliate product to sell pet products. Hopefully you have a lead capture page (homepage) setup to capture a customer’s email address by offering a free report and free e-course about a topic related to pets. If not just remember to move in that direction over time.

2. Now, let’s take things one step further and let’s assume you want to write an article that you can submit to several article directories (FREE) to get a rush of traffic to your affiliate products, your own products and or your own website.

3. Here’s the type of marketing article you might write. Try to write a product or service review with every article if at all possible. People love reviews because they don’t feel like you are selling anything to them. I’m going to use “get rid of flees” as the actual keyword from my research criteria here. The title is a bit too long but I’m using this example to make a point here. Note the power words used in these examples below.

“Discover 5 Safe And Natural Remedies Guaranteed To Get Rid Of Flees In 5 Days Or Less Using Only Five Basic Ingredients Found Right In Your Pantry — Plus Save Over $500 A Year On Harmful Pesticides”.

Here is another example using these tactics…

“Discover An Amazingly Simple Yet Effective Shortcut To Housebreak Your New Puppy In 7 Days or Less…Spending Only 5 Minutes A Day”!

4. Spend 50% of your efforts on the “TITLE” of your marketing article! This is extremely important. If your title isn’t full of benefits for it’s readers, chances are the article won’t even get read… so spend a lot of time on it!

I have dozens of articles from when I first started writing that need to be edited because they have boring titles. I had no idea of what I was doing a few years ago. I was so focused on the keyword aspects of the article titles. This is not wise to do.

You need to find a way to make each and every article title “Grab You By The Arm” as if saying, “Hey Look At Me Now and Read Me Now!”
