How To Prosper As An Article Writer When English Isn’t Your Mother Tongue

Do you fight with the English language when you write articles for your website or articles for free reprint distribution because English isn’t your mother tongue? Learn to turn your bilingual capacity into a stronghold for easy production of high quality articles to enhance your article submission.

The English language is at present the dominating language of the Internet internationally. Many of us who have another language than English as our mother tongue struggle to write our texts for articles and web pages in proper English.

In the following I will take the production of high quality articles for free reprint and distribution as an example of how to turn this disadvantage into an advantage for prolific writing and article submission.

The advantage of producing an article in two languages

The first point to make is to emphasize the advantage of being able to produce the same article in two languages. This might seem obvious but in reality most bilingual authors aren’t making full use of this advantage.

The reason might be due to an underestimation of the value of websites or articles in your mother tongue language - may be with reference to a much smaller population than the population of English speaking people in the world. But! - take into account that the competition among English websites is the toughest in the world.

A webpage in English with your article might do very poor in the search engines and get only very few visitors, while the same text in your mother tongue at a national website might rank in the top of the search engines and receive many visitors despite the much smaller population speaking that language.

Find the most efficient way for writing your articles

Is it easier for you to start writing the article in your mother tongue and than make a free translation into English or the other way around?

You might find that writing an article about something that you know extremely well is best written in English and then made with an easy translation and elaboration into your own language - instead of the other way round. You will have free hands to make each language version of the article unique. In fact you are free to turn your one English article into three versions of your mother tongue.

Bear in mind that the keywords and key sentences you use should be selected with care targeting keywords and sentences people are searching for in the search engines. You cannot be sure that a simple translation from the one language to the other will provide you with the most fruitful keywords.

When you search for background material for your articles you will have access to some sources that aren’t available in English. Make use of this advantage without violating any copyright laws.

Buying Articles from Someone Else? Why You Still Need to Write Your Own

There is a time and a place for just about anything. That includes articles you don’t write yourself.

With high quality Private Label Rights (PLR) articles, affordable ghostwriters, and even software that can write articles for you, why bother writing your own articles and web content? The articles you buy have the exact words and content you need and, after all, you do own the rights.

But there is one very important thing these articles can’t do. They can’t BE you. PLR articles, though they may be well written, aren’t going to tell your reader anything about who you are. Even a ghostwriter, unless you have a very good ghostwriter and you’ve given him or her good notes to work from, can’t sound like you. Computer generated articles are occasionally written in proper English, but they can’t show your personality.

One of the most important things your articles can do for you is help your audience get to know you. As your reader, I want to see your personality, hear your opinions, understand what you think. Even if I disagree sometimes, I really do want to know who you are.

Someone once told me that writing is the closest thing there is to true telepathy. You, the writer, have an idea you want to share. You put your thoughts into writing. When others read your article, they’ll read the exact words you were thinking. Even if it’s not telepathy, your writing still has amazing potential to build a connection between you and your reader.

Some of the most successful writers, on the web and off, write just the way they talk. Readers love to hear the author’s unique voice come through their written words. It makes the article interesting and it helps the reader make a connection with the writer.

And that leads me to why it’s so important to show who you are through your articles. On the Internet, where trust is always a concern, your writing helps us get to know you and learn that we can trust you.

There may be a place for PLR and ghostwritten articles in your business, but don’t rely on them alone. Take some time to share yourself with your audience through your own articles too. The rewards are long lasting and well worth your while.

Writing the Rant - Share Your Opinions Without Offending Your Audience

Opinions are dangerous things. They can damage feelings, break relationships, even start wars.

As an article writer, one of the most important things you do in your articles is share your opinions. You have important things to write about. Your reader really does want to know what you think, so long as you give him or her the freedom to disagree with you.

The first article I wrote was many years ago in a journalism class. At the time, I also worked in the hospitality industry. A perfect blending, I thought. I would use my new-found journalism skills to teach travelers how behave themselves while they stayed in hotels.

I interviewed my co-workers to learn their list of pet-peeves. I included detailed examples of inappropriate hotel guest behavior. I titled it “How Not to Be Stupid When You Stay in a Hotel” or something insightful like that. My article was going to change how people treated hotel staff forever.

My instructor thought otherwise. He believed my article would alienate the same people I wanted to educate.

He was right. Article readers, however wrong they may be in their business practices or life choices, don’t like being told they’re wrong. In fact, they dislike it as much as you and I do.

As a writer, you can manipulate the words you use to share your ideas without offending your readers. You have the power to write about whatever is really bugging you and lead people to agree with you or see your side of things, without ever telling them they were wrong in the first place.

A good writer has a responsibility to be unselfish in his or her writing. In every article you write, you share your thoughts with others. It’s easy to take advantage of this privilege and dump whatever is on your mind into your article, but that’s selfish writing. You might feel better, but your reader won’t benefit from reading it. My hotel article was selfish.

An unselfish article puts your reader’s interests first. It shares your opinions but not your criticisms. It teaches your reader how to do something beneficial, but doesn’t lecture them on why they’re wrong.

An unselfish article gives your reader room to disagree with you. You might be smarter than your reader, have more experience and training, but your reader is just as entitled to his or her opinions as you are.

A statement such as “If you engage in this action, you’re wrong” will likely alienate a reader who does engage in that behavior and does believe it’s a good idea. Instead, give reasons why your ideas are better.

Turn your list of “don’ts” into a list of “dos” or even “whys.” My hotel article would have been much more effective if I had written a list of ways to make your hotel stay more pleasant, or reasons why certain behaviors don’t get you the results you want. I could have included the same information with a different twist and I would have gotten very different results. Readers would have found my article helpful instead of critical.

If you’re writing articles to promote your business, it’s even more important that you be gracious in your writing. Your clients and potential clients are going to read your article. If your article criticizes their practices or choices, they might not remain your clients for long. It’s more effective to write about how they could do something better than criticize what they’re currently doing.

The best article writers have strong opinions and write about them openly. That’s how readers get to know them and learn to trust them. Some of my favorite writers have extreme opinions that I strongly disagree with. They remain my favorites because they show me new ways to think about things, but they don’t ever come out and tell me I’m wrong for not taking their advice.

Writing Your Way Through A National Tragedy

When tragedy strikes a nation you cannot escape it. Living in the country you have to face it along with your fellow country men and women.You feel the sorrow and look for hope like many others but since you are a writer, you have words to express your grief and extend support. In times of tragedy that strength of words is what preserves the national grief for the future generation to read and reflect and it is also a way to share the common sentiment.

So how can you get out of the grief and write your way through a national tragedy? First step would be to reflect. Think about what happened, all the people who suffered and how the nation handled the pain and grief. You have to be able to feel for the people are understand their position before you even begin to write a word on the tragedy. Make that human, emotional connection.

After the reflection, you will be able to connect the common sentiment of loss and also be able to come to terms of what you are feeling about the tragedy. Begin writing about the tragedy keeping in mind that there are real people facing the tragedy and you have to be considerate and humble.Trying humor is a total NO NO.

In you writing express your feeling too so that people can know that you share their grief. Write objectively about facts and details but using emotions will make your writing even more appealing because at times of tragedy people look for emotional bond.

If the tragedy is not man made, like 9/11 you have to be balanced on issues like race, religion and social sentiments. You don’t want to write something that is racist or biased which will further the divide and add to the tragedy.

Finally, remember that you need time to deal with your own personal grief. So don’t hurry towards writing about the tragedy and always be clam and balanced, you don’t want to write something that hurts in time of already painful national tragedy.

Article Writing - 3 Key Benefits to Writing Like You Talk When Writing Articles

Article writing requires a different style writing. You need to be able to write conversationally, or said another way, write like you talk.

There are three keys benefits of writing like you talk. Let’s take a closer look at these three benefits, and how you can use them in your writing.

Benefit #1 - Writing like you talk is much more inviting - Writing like you talk invites people into your story, to share it with you. You are not talking at someone, your are talking with them.

Benefit #2 - Writing like you talk is much more compelling - in addition to being more inviting, writing like you talk is more compelling to your reader. When you write like you talk the reader is pulled into your article and will feel like they just have to know what you will say next.

Benefit #3 - Writing like you talk is much more exciting - Think about the things you have read, or the things you have been a part of, or the conferences you have been to where you were totally bored. I spent a great deal of time in school being bored, and I just made a promise to myself that once that time in my life was done I would not allow boredom, or force myself to sit through something that I found boring.

So now I give speakers five minutes. If they don’t have me in five minutes I’m just going to do something else, because I don’t want to be bored.

Remember the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and the teacher, played by Ben Stiller, and his famous boring lines: “And the capital of… Georgia is… anyone? Anyone? Bueller?” We have all heard presentations like that. We have all read articles and books like that. You do not want to write that way, people will not even read a 250-word article written that way. You’re gone.

Make it more inviting, more compelling and more exciting when you are writing your articles.

Article Writing - Why Writing Like You Talk is So Important When Writing Articles on the Internet

Article writing is meant to be conversational writing, or writing like you talk.
Here are three points on the importance of writing like you talk.

Point #1 - Article writing for the Internet is really a different type
of writing. It is designed to be short. It is designed to be brief. It is designed
to be different and it is not formal. It is not APA style. It is simply different.
It is more conversational. It’s more for the purpose of giving good information,
driving traffic, building a list, and selling products.

This notion of writing like you talk may come natural for some folks like it does
for me. It may be a stretch for other folks. That’s OK, because you will be willing
to stretch because of the good stuff that comes back from article writing and marketing.

Back when I was a full time marriage and family therapist, one of the best compliments
I would get is people would tell me “Jeff you don’t talk like a therapist.” I said thank
you very much. I sure didn’t want to sound that way.

Point #2 - Know, like and trust. Know, like and trust. Know, like and trust. I am going
to pound that into your brain. KLT, Know, like and trust. That’s another benefit or
important reason to write like you talk. Before prospects are going to join, even sign
up for something free, but especially spend money with you, they have got to come to
know, like and trust you.

Point #3 - Writing conversationally opens ears, opens minds and opens wallets. One of the
ways I look at doing coaching or therapy is basically, it is a conversation for change. My
clients tell me that they can barely tell when we have gone from chitchat to working, because
it is a smooth transition. It is just a conversation, which is what you are having with
your reader.

Article Writing - 3 Mistakes Made by People Who Write Articles

Many people are finally realizing that article writing and submission is a great way to drive traffic to their website, get known in their area of expertise, and to get used to writing on a regular basis. But what they fail to do is to actually start and keep writing these articles. There are 3 mistakes I have noticed by people who write articles.

  1. Thinking that each article has to be perfect - When you have an idea for an article make some notes and then just start writing. You will want to check for spelling and grammatical errors and then keep writing. You are not writing for a university or a publisher. These articles are meant to convey information to the reader on a subject that you have some knowledge about. They are better if they are not perfect. A conversational style is easier and more enjoyably read. Also, you can always edit your articles and submit them again at a later time. The most important thing is to get your article written and submitted.
  2. Not knowing what to write about - Anything that you are interested in and have knowledge about will make a good article. Look around your house and make some notes. Everything in your life can become an article. If you know about something there will be many people who will want to read what you write about it.
  3. Being afraid to write in an area that you have no expertise in - Even if you have just a small amount of knowledge and interest in something you can write an article that will reach another person in a special way. No one can write the way you can. If you write from your heart you will be reaching out to people who need to hear the information from you in your words.

So go ahead and write. Write about your hobbies, your career, your family, and your life. These articles are an important part of our culture. Ten years ago you had to submit articles to publications that were looking for specific topics and styles of writing. Not anymore. Now we can all write about our thoughts, our interests, and our areas of expertise and know that people around the world will be able to benefit from what we have written. Take advantage of this great opportunity and write, write, write!

Writing Killer Article Subject Lines

You know, it’s really funny. It almost doesn’t matter how good your article is. If you have a subject line that just lays there like a rock at the bottom of a lake, nobody is going to read your wonderful article. Sad but true. So, it is the hope of this article, and the author who wrote it, that by the time you are done reading this, you will have a pretty good understanding of how to come up with that killer subject line that will just make people want to read your article.

Did you ever watch the teasers before the evening news, especially Fox after an episode of 24 on Monday night? They almost always have one that goes something like this…

“Could this be the end of Jack Bauer?”

What do you think that does? It makes people want to watch the news. I mean, heaven forbid that the show did away with its beloved star. So teaser subjects like that make people watch an hour of news that they most likely wouldn’t have watched. And trust me, it’s a full hour because you know that story is coming pretty close to the end of the broadcast. That’s called smart advertising.

Well, that’s what your article subject line has to do. It has to be smart. It has to make people want to open up your article and read what’s inside. Otherwise, all the great writing in the world is just going to go to waste.

So, how do you come up with a killer subject line, and more importantly, what subject lines do you want to avoid at all costs? Well, I’m going to give you a couple of examples using different topics so you can see that this trick will work for just about any subject.

Let’s take the subject of “acne” and see what we can do with a bland boring subject line.

Let’s say you want to write an article on the causes of acne. Well, you can play it safe and come up with a subject something like “The Causes Of Acne.” Now, maybe somebody will actually read that article if they really want to know what causes acne. But what if you came out with a subject like this?

“Why You’ve Got That Zit In The Middle Of Your Forehead.”

It’s amusing, it’s funny and it will catch people’s attention. I would be willing to bet that you’ll get more people reading that subject and that article, even if it isn’t as well written, than the one before it. Why? Because it’s human nature to look for the interesting and the different.

Let’s take the subject of, well, of writing articles. Let’s take this very one.

I could have made a subject that read, “How To Write Subject Lines For Articles.” I mean it does say what the article is going to talk about, but by using the subject line “Writing Killer Article Subject Lines”, it made it just a little more interesting and made you more likely to read it.

Writing a killer subject line for your article is not hard. All it takes is a little imagination and a few minutes of thought.

Try it sometime. You’ll be surprised what you can come up with.

You can write many more articles in much less time when you use article writing templates. In fact, I have found article writing templates to be the “missing link” for many article writers who want to increase their article production.

One I really like is the “Barriers to…” article writing template. Let’s take a closer look at how to use this article writing template to jump start your article writing.

The “Barriers to…” Article Writing Template

I guess it is just human nature. Readers are more drawn to negatives (barriers, mistakes, failures) than they are to positives (tips, how to, etc). Sometimes this is called a negative headline. And fifteen years of experience writing titles tells me that negative headlines work!

Pick an area of your niche, of your expertise, in which someone wants to accomplish a goal that can be difficult to attain. When you name these barriers for your reader, you position yourself as an expert that can help. Then when you show your reader how to remove or get past these barriers, you are the hero.
